We needed an above-ground oil tank taken out of our garage (including draining oil from tank) after we converted to gas. Lombardo was recommended, and they did an excellent job. Arranged for permit and contacted inspector. Worked quickly and neatly and with respect for our property; you could tell they knew what they were doing. We also had them remove the cement bollards that had been required in front of the tank (so a car could not hit it). They cemented over the holes where those posts were; also closed up the holes where the fill pipe went through the garage wall. (We will replace siding in that area.) Work was done in about two hours (faster, I imagine, than an underground tank). Inspector came that afternoon; it passed. Once I told Lombardo it had passed inspection, they returned about an hour later with a truck to take away the empty tank. Would highly recommend. read more

Originally went with a different oil tank company to remove an oil tank. They told me that the oil tank was at a certain part of the property that required coordination with the gas and water company as the gas and water line was in the way of the tank removal. The initial oil tank company was very unresponsive and didnt answer any questions. I finally went with Lombardo. After some coordinating with the gas company, Ken Lombardo came out and surveyed the property. He informed me that the oil tank was not where the first company told me it was but it was in front of my garage! Ken, being out at my house for the first time, found the tank and told me the gas and water company would not be necessary! If I went with Lombardo to begin with, I would have saved about 2-3 weeks... The crew came out within a short amount of time after Ken and removed my pavers and removed the tank in a few hours. They were quick, professional and courteous. Ken took time to answer questions about the process and the tank and what would happen before, during and after removal with patience. I recently hired Lombardo to perform oil tank sweep on the property that I'm trying to purchase in NJ. They found a buried object in the back yard and declared it was an oil tank. It seemed a bit odd to find an oil tank in the back yard, because the furnace was actually facing the front yard. I'm a first home buyer. A person who knows nothing about house raised a question like this, but without even minimal analysis or thinking, they just concluded it was an oil tank. The seller had to dig the spot in their back yard, and turned out it was a septic tank! I would also give minus 100 star if I could for their customer service. I think two ladies who answer the phone are Jessica Lombardo and Iris Clifton. Both of their tones are so arrogant (I talked to both of them), which made me not wanting to talk to them on the phone. Maybe this is their strategy. So, I tried to ask questions through emails instead. Guess what, after they took $200 for the horrible job, they never replied. Watch out home buyers in NJ, I would avoid this company! Many other 'courteous' and 'professional' companies out there. read more

Did not like this company and would Not recommend. I think they must have some deals with real estate professionals like agents and lawyers bc everyone I dealt with said I had to have a tank scan and I had to use Lombardo. There are other companies out there - research them. They of course spotted an anomaly but couldn't give me even a single clue as to whether their "reading" was high enough to indicate a possible tank or - as it turned out to be - a nothing piece of metal. I smelled something fishy so I hired a different company to investigate further. That company was professional and told me that though their scan price is higher than Lombardo, they will hand dig a small area as part of that cost if there is an anomaly of such a minor reading as mine. Meanwhile Lombardo acted as if it could be anything from a fork to a giant oil tank - who knows unless we do a full exploratory dig for hundreds more. Just know if you hire them your initial fee is basically for a metal detector scan with no other useful info. read more

Lombardo Environmental is the company I've recommended for over 20 years - every experience has been positive. Here's an amazing customer service experience I had with them: One Friday afternoon at the start of a major holiday weekend I had a 3 pm home inspection with a customer buying a house in Teaneck NJ. The customer mistakenly thought that the home inspector would call Lombardo to schedule the tank sweep inspection. That's not how it happens - home inspectors don't call other companies. So here we are, over an hour into the inspection and no Lombardo. Very odd so I call them and discover that no appointment had been made. Oh gee whiz - Is anyone out there doing a tank sweep nearby? No, we're very sorry but we don't have anyone near Teaneck and we're closing the office right now for the holiday weekend. But, maybe we can work this out for you. We'll call you back to let you know if anything can be done. A few minutes later Lombardo calls me to say they'll have someone at the house in 45 minutes. Guess who shows up? Mr. Lombardo Sr himself - the owner of the company. He's supposed to be going to a family barbecue but came to do the tank sweep inspection for my customer. Over the years Lombardo has done tank tests and oil tank removals for my customers. Everyone has been extremely happy with their professionalism and how neatly the work has been done. Let's face it - if someone digs up your lawn or driveway it's not going to look great but they do the best they can to be as considerate as possible. This is a great company - that really sums it up. And if you're buying a home in Bergen County be sure to have a tank sweep inspection done. I insist every one of my buyers do this. Enough said on that. read more

Agree with other reviewer - I'm an environmental engineer, and these guys are extraordinarily unprofessional. They "found an anomaly" yet only have one exact point - oops, NOT exact, they only have feet not inches, and they have no area designated for a dig. Their quote says "hand dig the area" but doesn't identify an area! I cannot believe that my client is dealing with them, but they don't believe that the property was always gas, and they want proof. *** please do not use this company they are the absolute worst. They destroyed my house they took apart my sidewalks and driveway and will not fix it. They cut the stone on the front of my house, they road a 5 Ton machine over my brick wall. They found oil in the soil for a tank that hasn't been used in over 10 years they charged us $15,000 to remove 2 tanks and install a new tank in the back. Then another 33,000 to remove this contaminated soil. I have many pictures if anyone would like to see the damage just let me know I'll be more than happy to show you. Please don't be ripped off like me there are so many other companies out there to use. read more

This firm was used by the buyer of my home. They performed an oil tank sweep on my property, even though my tank had been in my basement. The initial inspection came back with an "anomaly" indicating something was present. I tried to explain that in the location they suggested, it would be physically impossible. But of course, the bank insisted on a clean report. As a result of this, I incurred additional legal fees to cover a no-fault letter to protect my self against any damage they might cause. Lombardo insisted they needed to excavate to determine the root cause. They did not even have dig safe mark the lawn until I insisted in case they damaged a water, sewer, or natural gas line. The excavation caused two weeks of delay in the closing process. In addition, the buyer had to pay them additional fees for the excavation work. On the day of this second inspection, Lombardo workers finally acknowledged that the source of the reading was simply the mineral content of my soil in Ridgewood! The Lombardo workers actually had planned to celebrate afterwards in the expectation of finding a tank and landing a large removal contract so they were quite disappointed. I strongly suggest not using this company as a result of this experience which clearly shows their lack of expertise. Their incompetence caused both me and the seller unnecessary costs and delays in the closing. Its a case of the inspector simply attempting to get more work at the expense of the customer. read more

I used this Company for a simple tank sweep/search and they made this easy process very difficult. First, their secretary lost my information and appointment, so I had to go through the application process twice and re-schedule my appointment. Next, the man who conducted the sweep was 20 MINUTES LATE to the appointment, which is great because their office is only 10 minutes from the search site haha! Lastly, they harassed me for my credit card information to pay for the search, which I gave to them TWICE in the application processes mentioned above. They were cheap, and did a good job (I guess - they didn't find an oil tank thankfully), but as I said above, they made this simple process extremely difficult and annoying. read more

The people who bought our house hired this company for an underground tank sweep. They found a suspicious spot and we were required to dig it up to go forward with the sale. I spoke to a bunch of people (realtors, real estate lawyers, etc.) who said something like: oh yeah, that's the company that always finds something. They included a quote to perform the (now required) dig in their sweep report. We hired another company for a little more money. In their report they, the new company, said they first did a sweep and found a signal consistent with a sewer line in the indicated spot (not a tank). Then they dug (because they were still required to do this) and found a sewer line. We were relieved but then a little annoyed. A little while later I was arranging inspections for the house we were buying. I called Lombardo just out of curiosity. They were the lowest quote, not surprisingly. Of course I didn't hire them. I think what they do is give you the lowest quote, say $300 instead of $400, for a sweep but then always find "something suspicious." Then they give you the lowest quote, say $300 instead of $400, for the dig. Their customers are so relieved when the dig doesn't uncover a tank that they don't realize they were just tricked into paying $600 instead of the $400 they would have paid if they had just hired the reputable company from the beginning. (Those prices are just estimates; I forget the exact numbers at this point). Not to mention the stress involved with thinking you may have a tank and the time and strain on an already delicate real estate transaction. I definitely do not recommend. read more

I am amazed at the quality of service and consideration that the staff (especially Mr. Allen Ten-Hoeve and Ken Lombardo) has given to my parents during this ordeal...we found out that our underground oil tank had to be removed and testing revealed contamination. Lombardo took the time to explain every step in detail and provided every resource available to assist us for our home sale and closing. People give environmental companies a bad reputation, and I cannot speak for other firms; however I can certainly attest for the great experience (even though we had contamination (no fault of Lombardo) dealing with Lombardo every step of the way. They work extremely slow and have no consideration for their clients, not to mention they are extremely rude when your paying them a big chunk of money.
