Just The Dip Food Truck - Falafel wrap

    Just The Dip Food Truck

It was the name for me. I may have told this story once before: Thursdays were chicken nugget days…read moreat my university. Whereas some grabbed mountains of nuggets, I have the guy grabbing 7 nuggets, and a plate of 7 condiments in those little ramekins. Yeah... to say I adore dips is an understatement. Therefore, when I decided to return to Barrel House Z and saw Just the Dip was visiting, my decision was signed, sealed, and delivered. Frankly, given the name I would have expected more dips! I was given one with my nachos, and it was mild, savory, and pleasant, but otherwise unremarkable. Meanwhile I expected a whole other menu, kind of like Saus has. So, let me then tell you about the chicken nachos. It had several things going for it, but the execution wasn't there to inspire a return visit. The chicken had good flavor, and wasn't overly sauced. The chips were a delightful, industrial strength model that didn't crumble under the weight of the ingredients. Where it comes to veggies, the tomato and onion seemed to be little chunky for the application. The real trouble is with the cheese - it seemed like a quarter teaspoon of a crumbly cheese that made it only a corner of a single chip! Almost like they started to put some on, and changed their minds at the last second. Cheese is essential to nachos! It is not only awesome on its own, but is also the medium that holds everything together! Thus, while $15 for a filling portion of nachos is reasonable, the meal felt unfinished and unrefined. Plus, I would have really hoped for more dips and/or dip options.

The food was delicious, and service was quick. The crunchy falafel on a bed of pickles and tomatoes was in a thick wrap, more like naan. It was served with a generous portion of hummus. Crispy, delicious chicken strips had cornbread on the side. The hummus, carrots and celery also had soft pita triangles and was a healthy, meatless option for kids and adults.

You know something I love? Whimsical conspiracy theories. I'm talking something like "Birds aren't…read morereal." They are fun to think and joke about - even though all I have to do is ask "then what is chicken?!" Which I did, once, until someone responded: "I don't know, but isn't it strange how everything tastes like it?" hmm... But I digress Okay, so why should we care about existence, or lack thereof, of our avian friends? Well, I have a conspiracy theory: the reason this truck is invited to breweries is because the oceanic levels of salt will make sure your beer is always full! However, this falls apart quickly when you realize Barrel House Z and Vitamin Sea are family friendly establishments, and have big jugs of self-serve water. Don't worry - I am not throwing shade. While I do believe my critique of their salt levels is valid, this wasn't enough to cost them a star. This truck has everything else going for it, and it became an instant favorite among food trucks for me! First things first: the service here is incredibly friendly and kind! As for the food: I had the opportunity to try the Chicken Bacon Ranch Fries, the Meatball Sliders, and the Tacos. Across the board: the portion sizes are huge, and the value is excellent! Everything comes out hot and fresh, too! The meatball slider had a gentle consistency, and delightful sweet and spicy notes. The CBR fries were, true to their name, loaded with ingredients! As for the tacos, while not the most authentic in the world, they were overflowing with meat, had plenty of sauce and veg, and interestingly cheese in between the two tortillas (which helped everything stay together!) Finally, I am also a fan that their menu seems to rotate! Never a dull moment! Thus, I would say that the Meat & Cheese project gets an "A."

The tots were barely edible due to being extremely salty. The chicken tasted like it came out of a can. Cousins Maine Lobster is a brand and fleet of lobster food trucks that began in Los Angeles,…read moreCalifornia in April 2012. It was founded by cousins Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac. Originally from Portland, Maine, the cousins later settled in Southern California. Impressed with the Los Angeles food truck industry, they decided to start selling Maine lobster in the L.A. area. Lobster was typically viewed as a pricey delicacy, only served in precious portions at fancy restaurants. The cousins saved up enough money to buy a food truck. East Coast transplants raved about the authenticity, freshness and the copious amount of meat in the lobster rolls. Their success really took off after they were featured on an episode of the TV series "Shark Tank". The brand expanded, more food trucks were bought, and the first brick & mortar location opened in West Hollywood in 2015. As of 2026, the chain has 65 food trucks and two restaurants throughout 30 states as well as Washington, D.C. I recently sampled some of Cousins Maine's delicious lobster when I saw one of their trucks at a local brewery. The "Greater Boston" truck travels all across Eastern Massachusetts to stop at breweries, wineries, and various markets and festivals. I had previously sampled food from the "Greater Connecticut" truck. The menu consists of items made from Maine lobsters, such as Maine Lobster Rolls, Connecticut Lobster Rolls, lobster quesadillas, lobster tacos, lobster grilled cheese, lobster bisque, as well as New England Clam Chowder. After looking over the menu, I decided to order some "Lobster Tacos" (Maine lobster served with cabbage, pico de gallo, cilantro lime sauce, flour tortillas). They were simply divine and paired well with the beers that I was having at the brewery. I give Cousins Maine Lobster my seal of approval and I hope to see one of their trucks again!

Booked mike and ants for a smaller event and we corresponded a few times over email about location, time and price. Thought everything was all set, but he was a no show. Kids were disappointed, but it was a smaller event so we made an emergency run to the store for the ice cream we promised all the kids. Called him on the phone to see why he never showed, and he claimed to have not written it in his book. He said this had never happened before and he would make it up to me. Ok fine, mistakes happen. Give him the benefit of the doubt and book him for our block party two weeks later. Because of the no show the first time I sent a confirmation email the day before the event and he confirms that he will be there. But once again, NO SHOW. We had kids in tears because we promised an ice cream truck and no one arrived. I am completely shocked that a business could be so unprofessional. Despite multiple confirmations and affirmations that he would be at two separate parties, he never showed. So two times in less than a month he was a no-show. I would suggest using a different company if you want the ice cream truck to actually come to your party. I would never have left this review if this were a one time event, but for it to happen to the same person two times is a trend. Obviously we will never use them again and I would warn people about using them too.
