Mussels and frites!
Rachel E.

When in Brussels...get some mussels! On our only evening in Brussels we headed out to get some moules and frites. (Yes, I know that's 2x frites in one day. But hey, we walked a lot. I earned it.) We did not have a reservation but were lucky to get a great table in the back. I highly recommend making reservations but they do also have bar seating if you didn't plan ahead. We saw the table next to us eating croquettes which looked delicious. However, we both agreed they looked better than they tasted. For our main course we each ordered mussels although probably we could have shared. The bowl was huge! While the mussels were really tasty, all of the sauce was at the bottom so while the top ones were good, the bottom ones were amazing. But at that point I was already quite full. It may be silly but I'd recommend moving the ones from the top off to the side and start with the bottom. Then you can add them back in and toss with the remaining sauce. We ordered a bottle of pouilly fume which was extremely tasty and reasonably priced from the extensive list. I definitely recommend ending the meal with their mint tea which was the perfect finish to cleanse us of our double frites sins.

Croquettes for appetizer

Excellent dinner here last night. We enjoyed the croquettes and asparagus for appetizers, and my friends had chicken and asparagus, while we had the beef meat loaf and cod fish. Perfect ambiance with good , attentive, and classy service. It's rather expensive but it's worth a try.

Mechelin Chicken. Absolutely wonderful.

We went here during our Christmas break, I know long delay in reviewing, and we both really enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is small, but it doesn't feel cramped and more importantly the noise level is great so it was easy for us to enjoy a nice meal together. I ordered the chicken and my fiance ordered the risotto and both were excellent. Beyond the food the location was awesome. After dinner we were able to walk around and check out one of the many high-end chocolatiers in the square. Overall great place.

Went to lola on a Monday for dinner. The staff was very helpful in selecting our entrees. Scallops with puff pastry and butter and the desert (chocolate mousse cake with vanilla almond ice creme) were to die for. Our entrees didn't disappoint either. Definitely will not think about visiting the place again.

Sea bass with scallops and pink in risotto and leek sauce.

Pretty pricey but the food is really really really really good. The ambiance is nice and the waiters are friendly. To keep it short, I'd save up to come and eat here once in a while. Everything on the menu looked really good but I stuck to the sea bass with scallops with leek sauce and pumpkin risotto. It was the best sea bass ever. So soft and tender. And I definitely recommend the vanilla ice cream with figs for dessert! It has so many flavors and spices in a bite!

Excellent steak. This is a proper restaurant. A bit on the pricy side, but it's worth the price.

Their rabbit stew was also very delicious and it paired so well with their fries. I'm usually not a big fan of fries, but I could not stop eating them. Service: We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to quickly accommodate us as we got there a bit before rush hour. However, I would definitely recommend making a reservation as it gets pretty busy, especially with locals. All the staff were very nice and attentive as well! Ambiance: They have several levels to accommodate more people. They have their main bar on the first floor, but you do have to hike up a bit of stairs to get to the restroom as there's a flight of narrow stairs, so be careful. I really enjoyed dining here as it felt like a very local spot. This restaurant was definitely the highlight of our trip to Brussels!

The mussels are fresh and flavorful, and you can't help but slurp, I mean scoop up, some of the cream and garlic sauce in between each mussel. The other items are not bad, but nothing to write home about: Flemish beef stew, meatballs in tomato sauce, or even mussels with plain white wine (1 star off). Overall, Le Bistro is a good...bistro...option for some local foods.

Tender meat bursting with flavor with some mashed potatoes to soak up the sauce. I enjoyed the lamb as well, however a bit too much rosemary for me. Get the pear dessert. If you want to try Belgian food with reasonable prices then this was one good option in Brussels…read more I arrived early for Friday night dinner and the restaurant was just over half full with lots of available seating. While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.
