I was a little apprehensive about going in as there was only one table seated, but I'm really glad we did and it filled up quickly. We had a lovely simple salad, foie gras, and champagne. All were delicious. Oh, and the bread is amazing. The vibe is quirky with Magritte riffs on the wall. Seems very authentic in a touristy area.

A truly great find. Just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Grand Place and you have this little gem. No it is not cool, not trendy and above all - not a tourist trap. You even have to ask for the menu in English (word of warning - in English the dishes sound bland - they sound way better in French but taste equally great regardless!) This is simply, great Belgian/French Food the way it has been served for decades. We went twice in 3/4 days - my wife had the same dish each time - rabbit and prune casserole and she LOVED it. First time I had a beef stew (better in French!) which I enjoyed. Today I had beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce. They don't push you on wine so if you want a second glass expect to beckon them. The bulk of the customers are locals - the tourists are 50-100 yards away in the Grand Place paying more for sub-par food! Two thumbs up Review number 7 2019

The desk manager/concierge at The Hotel had a few recommendations for Mussels in Brussels and this was one of my favorites. The interior design was filled with charm and character. The staff was helpful, old school class and courteous. But the mussels were the star! I started with Moules escargos (Mussels with Garlic Butter) I don't think a mussel dish can get any better than this. For my entrée I chose Moules vin Blanc creme (Mussels with White Wine & Cream) Even the bread was quality, but best enjoyed dipping into the sauce.

snails, shrimps croquettes, profiteroles - the wonderful staff, the amazing interior. we really liked this place!

Bread with Isigny butter. The beer-that I already drink a little- is Leffe.

Reasonable price, but the waiter was not kind. Food was good, but I think I can find another good restaurant in Brussel.

If you look for Brussels atmosphere and really decent food. Wouldn't have expected seen the location.

The ham knuckle was the best ham I've ever had, and the sides were tasty and filling.

But they do their best to seat as many people as possible. I got in fairly quickly because i was alone. The food was fantastic. I had the Carbonade a la Biere, and it was so great! Like a beef stew and very tasty. Also had some good Belgian beer. Service was attentive and very fast. The restaurant is lively and exciting - not really a quiet romantic dinner. But a lot of fun!

While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

Their rabbit stew was also very delicious and it paired so well with their fries. I'm usually not a big fan of fries, but I could not stop eating them. Service: We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to quickly accommodate us as we got there a bit before rush hour. However, I would definitely recommend making a reservation as it gets pretty busy, especially with locals. All the staff were very nice and attentive as well! Ambiance: They have several levels to accommodate more people. They have their main bar on the first floor, but you do have to hike up a bit of stairs to get to the restroom as there's a flight of narrow stairs, so be careful. I really enjoyed dining here as it felt like a very local spot. This restaurant was definitely the highlight of our trip to Brussels!

The mussels are fresh and flavorful, and you can't help but slurp, I mean scoop up, some of the cream and garlic sauce in between each mussel. The other items are not bad, but nothing to write home about: Flemish beef stew, meatballs in tomato sauce, or even mussels with plain white wine (1 star off). Overall, Le Bistro is a good...bistro...option for some local foods.
