This is a really neat spot. You can sample sardines. I opted to sample the trout on top of bread with curry on top. Even if you do not like sardines, it's a neat spot to pick up a souvenir. The service was great as well.

What a terrific canning store! There are tons of canned sardines, mackerel, and salmon. The staff would even let you sample some of their canned sardines on a buttery brioche mini-toast. The canned fish here taste fresh (does not taste canned) and are less salty than the ones from the U.S. The canned fish lasts several years too...I'm really curious if they will hold up the fresh taste after several years.

Came across this place while walking and so glad we did because this place was so good! The grilled sardines was cooked right in front of us and everything tasted so delicious. They have a nice outdoor seating and the wind blows here perfectly. The people here also speaks English and very nice. 100% recommend this place!

In finding souvenirs from Portugal, canned seafood is a must! Notorious for its Sardines, we knew had had to get a couple cans of something... My wife found this shop through her research and was it a learning experience! The varieties of canned seafood on offer from various canneries was dizzying at first, but the woman working the register was so friendly and helpful in assisting us with what to get. I'll admit, I'm a sucker for a well designed label, so in picking out what to get, this was a challenging task! Every tin is beautiful and each cannery brings there own style, from retro to modern. Of course, the fish on offer is what our decision should be based on, but the labels are just too beautiful! Anyways, I digress; this is a great shop for some truly fantastic products from Portugal!

This shop has beautifully displayed conserves by brand. I appreciated that each display provided written information (in English) about the company. This allowed me to learn what type of fishing practices are used by the company, how long the company has been in business, and the variety of specialty products that they provide. It was definitely informative. They even have some rare aged conserves if you're willing to pay for that. None of the products are inexpensive though. There were also one or two items available for taste testing which I didn't find anywhere else in a conserve shop.

There's a variety of options and cuisines available, plus beers, wine and cocktails for purchase. I would leave small children at home with a babysitter, as trying to maneuver through the crowds with a stroller is just too much to deal with. We liked the tacos, burgers and pad Thai. Desserts are also available.

Jamie W and I have been to the smaller Time Out Markets in NYC (Union Square and DUMBO), but we could never find our footing in these places. This one has the distinction of being the original Time Out Market, so it's had over a dozen years since its opening in 2014 to develop its cred with dilettante foodies and insufferable vloggers. At the same time, the rigid conformity of the food vendors to the Time Out brand makes this place feel far removed from the family-run businesses where you can get a more authentic ambiance and for the most part, cheaper prices. Paying the equivalent of $8 for an overdecorated donut may produce momentary Instagram gratification but little else (Photo 8). That's not to say the layout here isn't well organized, but basically you're relegated to long communal tables where your movements are restricted. Being elbows-to-elbow with famished, arm-waving tourists is not ideal. We were even here during off-peak hours, so I'm presuming it becomes more chaotic and cacophonous during lunch and dinner rushes, especially with the reverberations created from the high ceilings (Photo 9). With dozens upon dozens of food choices, this place is ideal for large groups who have no interest in exploring their own dining options, the ones who are perfectly satisfied with hanging out in food courts in shopping malls. So curiously we followed the crowd and they all had congregated in the bakery and deli area. The prices are VERY affordable as compared to the tourist trap stores. A lot of the locals shop here and this market is always busy! So if you want a cup of coffee with a Custard tart, or coffee with a nice buttered bun, combined, it cost us 2.09 euros! There is a small sitting area to eat your stuff, but the unsaid expectation was to "eat and run" since a steady stream of people were also taking this opportunity for a great deal! A convenient location to get groceries as our hotel was also right down the street!

What can I say? It's a supermarket! (Lol!) The stores we've visited were well-appointed, stocked, and modern. If you like meats and fish, they've got it all fresh. Being plant-based, Pingo is not the most stocked as far as those items go; but, it does contain a number of products for us. And, too, the prices are all very comparable, if not cheaper, than what we pay back in our local Hannaford back in the States. In sum, Pingo Doce is a very fine supermercado to go to when in Lisboa! :D
