Our first night in Lisbon was spent in an Air BnB in Baixo. We arrived to discover that the lift to our third floor flat was broken. Fortunately we had help w/ the bags, but we were not prepared for that climb. Sara, the assistant to Joao, who owns the flat, welcomed us and helped w/ the luggage. A few hours later she was at the door w/ a bag of groceries from Pingo Doce. She brought us a roasted chicken, bottled waters, still and sparkling, milk, orange juice, a bag of lettuces, a container of some interesting starchy mixture that may have been stuffing, and a container of cut up mango and grapes. And she climbed three flights of stairs to bring us that. It made for a very good dinner.
The next morning Alan walked over there to buy stuff for breakfast. He ended up w/ more mango but bought pastries at a bakery closer to our flat. The name was Vienoisserie Caprice, but I can't find any reviews or even an address for it so I can't review it. It gets 4 stars for a palmier and a Nutella-filled croissant. European Nutella, which is less sweet than American and therefore better. He compared Pingo Doce to Sprouts or Safeway, but more cluttered. Whatever, it was there when we needed it. read more
