Right off the bat we could see that they had a wide selection of different brands to pick from ranging in different price ranges. We ended up just picking a couple cans from a few different brands including tuna, sardines, smoked fish, octopus, etc. Back in the main part of town we also passed another store that was similar but it looked like it was just a singular brand. One side of this place has eateries that feature really well-priced nightly specials, often selling out, which gives you an idea of their popularity. I frequently found myself in another stretch of the place, opting for a wonderfully fresh sushi platter that ran about $30US. If you do nothing more than come for food and drink you'll likely not notice that there's a really wonderful, artsy shop (A Vida Portuguesa) that features unique and beautiful gifts for yourself or others. Also, a bookstore upstairs and, during the daytime, a huge farmer's market/green-grocery in another space attached to the main hall, but easily overlooked. One of my favorite things to do when traveling abroad is to wander the aisles of grocery stores on the prowl for good deals, amusing products, and wild Australian dogs. The aisles of Pingo did not disappoint! Star Wars obsessed? Check out the Jabba the Hutt fish in the seafood section! Fan of the Two-Buck Chuck? Pingo has a full wall of wines under $5. Kermit is your spirit animal? Muppet eye special in aisle 3! Take note that items from the deli and pastry section must be paid for at that counter. There is also a check-out line reserved only for pharmacy items. Pingo also houses the entry to the "secret" Castelo Elevador, which will lift you most the way up to St. George Castle. Overall this chain grocery store is a fantastic pit stop to load up on refreshments, basic needs, and cheap pastries. Next time some obnoxious woman complains, "I've lost my fiancé, the poor baby," put on your worst Australian accent and let her know he's at the Pingo Dingo!
