The curated selection here are made from independent and local designers. I don't like to shop at department stores and always prefer small shops like these. You never know what cool a$$ one-of-a-kind pieces you might find. Kelly greeted me warmly and asked me multiple times if I needed help. Even when I was in the dressing room she called out to me to ask if everything I got was fitting well. Here is my fashion advice...always try on the pieces, even the one you are hesitating on. One of the tops I was questioning turned out to be the one I loved the most. When I told Kelly that I am always on the hunt for sheer tops, she showed me a few other pieces on the rack. She even showed me one of the tops she was wearing on her iPhone to give me a visual. Lol. I found the top I wanted for an upcoming concert...Cannons. Since leaving the store I am feeling regretful that I didn't get the leather belt and bag that I kept eyeing. That bag was sick!! But I will definitely stop by again in the near future. Note: there are also tons of handmade one of a kind jewelry and homemade items like candles, etc.

Such a nice selection of goods - ranging in price to meet the needs of different budgets. I am a fan of Uzi and Black Crane - and they have a nice selection of these brands from what I have seen, but I have also discovered other brands and makers from across the globe that have awesome stuff. Their hours are not abundant (likely due to a covid still) but they are certainly open most days. When in doubt, call ahead. They are usually open after noon. It's a great shop and a wonderful part of Old City that I would highly recommend! Check it out if you haven't yet.

It's a massive store with a lot of merchandise, so you're likely to find something you like if you're in the mood to shop. Even when we haven't wanted to shop, we've found things when just popping in to say hi. You can dress up, or dress down. Shop affordably, or splurge a bit. They've introduced us to brands that we didn't know, and are always refreshing their assortment. As an independent business, they're obviously not getting in a ton of sizes, so as with all boutiques, if you see a piece that you like, you're wise to jump on it at that moment...even if you may pay a premium. A lot of the negative reviews here seems to fall into the buckets of price, assortment, or staff attitude, which may have validity in those instances, but for myself, I've only had great experiences. From the first time I went in when visiting Philly a few years ago to now as a neighborhood resident. The consistent, positive experiences we've had is why we continue to go back and spend the few extra dollars on a piece to support their local business. Plus, the men's assortment usually has things that work with my own style preference (casual, understated, but seeking quality materials and a more tailored fit in the $40-120 range). The women's assortment tends to run a bit higher, but that could just the difference in what my wife and I have shopped there. The staff are always eager to talk to us about their new arrivals, but they haven't been too pushy, thankfully. Regardless, Sugarcube likely has something for just about everyone, and if your experience mirrors ours instead of some of the more negative reviews here, hopefully you'll enjoy shopping there and find that piece you've been searching for! The owner kept sending me messages on instagram inquiring if I am going to buy the black denim. I stopped responding and he eventually called my place of work at the time and said I tried to steal something but put it back. I gave this business money and he tried to get me fired from my job. Odd that three young women can walk into a store and not be welcomed or offered assistance, but rather questioned about why they are talking to each other. My only guess is that the clerk did not want three women of color in her store. I rarely experience this level of racist hostility in Philadelphia, but I encourage you not to support this store. I can't comment on the quality of the clothes because we barely had a chance to come inside and look around.

They've also got some pretty cool tops and accessories, the displays are well-done, and the sales clerks are friendly and helpful. The only downside of this place is that designer jeans are very expensive. Sevens, I was told by the sales dude, run from about $140-200 each, and I can imagine that the other brands are similarly priced. Needless to say, I browsed the day I was there and didn't buy anything, but I hope to return someday when I have some cash to buy the perfect pair of jeans. Of course, I might be 40 by then and will be too old to be able to pull those cool jeans off anymore... I have one major gripe: I went in while they were having a sale. Everything was on sale EXCEPT FOR JEANS. Since they really are a jeans store, I think that sucks. I'd be more likely to buy a pair of jeans there if they were on sale because you can find the same designer jeans (although not as many styles) on sale at places like Off Fifth or Last Call Neiman Marcus. And I don't think it would kill Charlie's to knock $20 bucks off their jeans now and then. Otherwise, though, this store is really cool.
