A Philadelphia-based boutique in the Fishtown neighborhood. Happened upon this clothing shop as I was walking by and had to drop in to see what unique pieces they had. The curated selection here are made from independent and local designers. I don't like to shop at department stores and always prefer small shops like these. You never know what cool a$$ one-of-a-kind pieces you might find. Kelly greeted me warmly and asked me multiple times if I needed help. Even when I was in the dressing room she called out to me to ask if everything I got was fitting well. Here is my fashion advice...always try on the pieces, even the one you are hesitating on. One of the tops I was questioning turned out to be the one I loved the most. When I told Kelly that I am always on the hunt for sheer tops, she showed me a few other pieces on the rack. She even showed me one of the tops she was wearing on her iPhone to give me a visual. Lol. I found the top I wanted for an upcoming concert...Cannons. Since leaving the store I am feeling regretful that I didn't get the leather belt and bag that I kept eyeing. That bag was sick!! But I will definitely stop by again in the near future. Got one of their beautiful necklaces as a gift and it broke within weeks. Brought it back in with proof of purchase and they told me they have never sold the chain my necklace was purchased on, told me my partner was lying to me about the necklace, and that she must have changed the necklace chain (she didn't, it came all packaged up just how it was sold). Just felt judged, dismissed, and left the store in tears because of a mistake they made and won't own up to, but instead are rather blaming my partner for. If you want to support a small business, take your money somewhere it'll be respected and you'll be treated with kindness (not nasty remarks). read more

Do not get your wedding alterations done at Toile. I repeat, DO NOT get your wedding alterations done at Toile. Bianca was extremely unfriendly and had a bad attitude. She is also not an experienced seamstress. My wedding dress has a very long train with multiple layers, which required alterations for a bustle. Her suggestion was to cut off the train entirely, which would have damaged the structural integrity of the dress. She manhandled my dress to the point that I was worried about the lace ripping, and she took scissors and cut part of it during the appointment without my permission. When my sister said we should get a second opinion, Bianca got very defensive and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. She refused to help me pack up the dress and TOLD ME I HAD AN ANXIETY ISSUE. Not to mention, the first thing I asked when I walked inside of Toile was, "are your floors clean?" The cashier immediately said yes. The bare minimum for a shop to perform wedding dress alterations is to have a clean space so that dresses don't get dirty. The floor at Toile was covered in a coating of black dirt which got on my brand new dress that I'd never even tried on. After spending thousands of dollars on the dress to have it get black soot marks on the bottom before the wedding day? Incredibly upsetting. There were visible piles of dust and dirt in the corner of the dressing room. I ended up leaving and getting my alterations done by a local seamstress. Surprise surprise, I didn't need to cut off my entire train and the results were phenomenal. Bianca has no idea what she's doing and I wouldn't trust her to alter my socks let alone a wedding dress read more

This was a wonderful surprise. My partner and I were strolling down Frankford on our final afternoon in Philadelphia and entered this shop on a whim. Some really interesting works here, from the scarves to the jewelry, all from local artists. Creative and lovely, with a definite gothic flair, this alone would have made the trip to Fishtown worthwhile. We walked out with a new necklace, but could easily have found far more on which to happily spend money. The shop keeper also recommended some stores further along Frankford that we might have missed otherwise. Highly recommended. read more

Bianca altered my long velvet bridesmaids dress perfectly! She responded quickly to emails and was easy to schedule with. The process was painless and she had the dress ready for me in 2 weeks. A gorgeous shop that sells clothing and accessories that were not made by slave labour! Most of what Toile sells was made in the back of the store by the owner and an employee. She designs the unique styles and even has an adorable canine greeter. The store also hosts a knitting circle and knitting lessons on tuesdays from 7-9pm. read more

I found this place via Yelp and it did not disappoint. She can come off very quiet but I think that's just her personality so don't take it personal. Bianca was very flexible with my schedule and also very patient. She altered my dress and gave me good recommendations on achieving the look I was going for. She did my alterations promptly in about 2 wks. I don't get dresses altered frequently so I'm not sure what the price range normally is but I spent below my anticipated budget. This place takes cash and card but note theres a small fee for using your card. I recommended my friend here and will definitely continue to do so! read more

Brides and bridesmaids of Philadelphia, Toile is the place to go for your alterations! The owner Bianca, saved me when I needed to have my bridesmaid separates altered for an upcoming wedding. My seafoam green skirt needed to be let out and my ivory lace top was shapeless on me. Bianca altered both separates with ease and I no longer fear that I will be uncomfortable on my friend's wedding day. Now i feel wonderful! Bianca talked through all of her ideas for alterations with me and was very transparent through the entire process. I am getting married next year and now I know where I will be going! read more

I was a decisive bride. When it came time to pick a dress, I looked at a bunch online, found one that I liked, and decided to have a custom version of it made. I contacted 2 different places in Philly that do custom wedding gowns and decided that I liked Bianca's vibe better. The reason to go custom are many. 1) You get to see your dress every step of the way: I've heard so many stories of brides finally getting their dress after not seeing it for 9-12 months and when it arrives, they hate it or it's not as they remembered or it doesn't fit. This won't happen with custom! You are going for fittings every month or so and you can pick your own fabrics and tweak things to your liking. This is also good if you plan on losing weight for your wedding (or even if you don't plan on it but do anyway because of stress). 2) No synthetic fabrics! When I started browsing dresses online I was horrified to find that many of them, even in the $5k + price range are made of or at least lined in polyester! A lot of them have nylon tulle! Gross. My dress is 100% silk from lining to tulle. You owe it to yourself to NOT wear polyester on your wedding day. 3) It's uniquely yours: no other bitch will have your exact wedding dress. 4) It's not as expensive as you may think. Why buy off the rack when you can get custom for about the same price? I also decided to have Bianca make my bridesmaid dress for a friend's wedding and I referred that friend to Bianca to tailor her wedding dress as well. I've also bought accessories at the shop. Even if you're not in the market for a custom gown, it's a great shop with lots of unique clothing and accessories. I highly recommend it! read more

Bianca rescued me from a last-minute maid-of-honor emergency after another tailor did a total hack job on my dress! I called ahead and she was able to see me right away. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. Quickly and with no hesitation, she figured out what was wrong with my dress and how to fix it. I left feeling totally confident, which was nothing short of miraculous given the nervous wreck I had been merely an hour earlier. Bianca did not disappoint - after her alterations, the dress fit me like a glove. Not only is her work flawless, but she turned my dress around on a really tight timeline for an incredibly reasonable price. I could hardly believe that I'd paid another tailor double to nearly ruin my dress. I am definitely coming here for the next wedding I'm in and won't trust anyone else for special events! The circumstances of my dress alterations from Bianca at Toile lead me to write my first-ever Yelp review, that's how happy I am. I ordered a bridesmaid dress online, without the aid of in-person measurements or a size chart (the wedding is a few states away), and it was way too small, even though I ordered up. The dress has hardly any seam allowance to be let out, and there were no returns or exchanges allowed by the dressmaker. I was screwed. Bianca was the only tailor who would give alterations a shot when I shopped it around. The only fix was adding more fabric. Miraculously, she had some fabric that is an almost 100% match to the fabric of the dress, so she could put in some extra room. It looks beautiful and you can barely tell any changes have been made. She knows what she's doing. If you're in a formal-event sticky spot with a dress, make sure you call her. She is creative and skilled, and I can't imagine a crappier scenario for a seamstress; even with a dress that seemed hopeless, she made it work. She even suggested other places I should go to see if they had the dress in the correct size, and wrote on the receipt that she'd refund my deposit if I found the dress somewhere else. She's not trying to only grab your cash, she wants to help. read more

Toile is absolutely amazing, and actually lifesavers!! I had a huge emergency situation with a Bridesmaid dress last week on Wednesday that I was to wear to my sister's wedding on Saturday. I searched all over the area online to see where might be my best bet to get a rushed alteration, and Toile delivered above and beyond my expectations. When I called ahead of time, they eased my worries already over the phone and heard my story out, telling me to come in with my dress at any point I could during the day (even though they are right in the middle of a busy holiday season, they never made me feel I was an inconvenience) and they would take a look at it. I went in and felt so comfortable with their staff, who jumped immediately in pinning my dress and figuring out what was wrong with it. They promised to have it done by Friday night at the latest (which they completely followed through with and even had it done sooner than Friday night), and gave me a insanely reasonable price for the very rushed job I was asking for. The dress could not have fit me more perfectly when I picked it up on Saturday, those girls are SO talented! On a side note, their jewelry section is beautiful and I cannot wait to go back to Toile for my own wedding dress alterations next year, along with purchasing my Wedding jewelry from them.
