My dad has been a locksmith for 30 years and these guys should be embarrassed. The guy that came wasn't at all professional. He installed the locks but not a door plate for them to go into. I live in a small condo building in Rittenhouse area and we needed to have our front door hardware replaced. This may sound strange because I'm writing a review for an old lock they couldn't fix. I writing because there are not enough reliable, honest shops out there and this is one of them. One of their locksmiths was at our house within an hour of me calling the shop. He tried to fix one of our houses original internal locks for 30-45 minutes including trying to salvage a repair after realizing out of the gate there would not be replacement parts for a mechanism from the 1970s. After putting everything back together even after I offered to do it he refused any payment despite my attempts, simply saying, "you don't owe me anything; I didn't fix anything." I live in a house that is close to 100 years old. It has a lot of charm, like beautiful pocket doors and a claw foot tub, but it has quirks, too. One quirk is the lock situation. Recently I had occasion on an evening to lock the double key dead bolt on the storm door. Since I was expecting packages the next day, when I woke up the following morning, wisdom dictated that I unlock that door to facilitate delivery. The lock would not cooperate. For 3 hours I tried various tricks and trial and error. Nope. The lock would not budge and I was getting so angry and frustrated, it felt like another few turns of the key in the obstinate lock would find the key broken off and me up the creek, paddle-less. Sure, I could get in and out by using the back door, then walking through and unlocking the breeze way gate to gain egress to the street, but what the hell? That was so last ditch I was not going to do it. I Googled for 'best/cheapest locksmith Philadelphia' and found Locksmith PHILLY. By now I had resigned myself to being out $100 just so I could use my front door so I made the call. The man who answered was pleasant but sounded a little scattered. I settled in with my laptop to get some work done and maybe 20 minutes later saw a work truck pull up and a young man get out, approach my house and then open the storm door. WHAT?! I got up immediately and after going to the foyer, I saw the locksmith outside, casually opening and closing my previously stuck and locked storm door. I greeted him and asked what magic he'd performed. He smiled and said, "It was just stuck. It's fine now." After swearing to him that this was not a prank call and I'd worked on the flipping thing for 3 hours before I called for help, he said not to worry. I took out a 20 dollar bill, handed it to him and apologized for wasting his time and insisted he take it for his trouble. He smiled again and started to walk away, saying "No charge. I have a residential entry door with a mortise lock and wanted to install a smart lock that could be controlled remotely and would also have keypad access for Airbnb guests. I was extremely overwhelmed trying to find an appropriate lock. I called Locksmith Philly and Leo talked me through my options and recommended the commercial Yale nexTouch sectional mortise lock with deadbolt, key override and Z-Wave transmitter. I had to purchase the lock myself from Woodland Building Supply, who I also highly recommend, since these are a custom order and not available at many retailers. I wanted to have the key override since this provides a back up mode of entry in case the keypad were ever to fail; it's nice to have that added peace of mind, especially with a mortise lock. The high quality commercial lock was perfect for providing Airbnb guests an easy, solid, and hassle free ability to enter the house without worrying about keys. Once I received the lock, I contacted Locksmith Philly and Leo came the same day to look at the door and give me a quote for installation. He returned to install the lock the following morning, arriving on time. These locks are a little more complicated to install than typical deadbolts, and Leo completed the installation with no problem at all. He even demonstrated how to remove the deadbolt cylinder and reinstall it should I ever need to do this in the future. They were efficient and informative, and I couldn't be happier with the quality and functionality of the lock and installation. I zoned out and left my keys inside my apartment and these guys SAVED me. I was on my way to dinner with a friend and kind of a hurry and completely spaced. It may be a lot but at that point it was worth it to me. I asked if I could call him back because I was hoping our building manager was nearby and could help me out he said sure no problem I am here. Just moved to a new place and wanted to get the locks changed. Due to some damage with the door, the bottom lock wasn't working properly, so I needed that fixed as well. After calling the folks at Locksmith Philly, I had someone at my new place in an hour working on fixing my door. He was able to fix the closing issue, and put in a new keypad deadbolt that I had purchased... plus had the great idea of using the emergency key for the deadbolt and using it to rekey the bottom lock. Now I only have one key to worry about! To boot, he made me two extra spare keys since the deadbolt only came with a single key. Do not let the lack of reviews (at the time of me writing) scare you - the guys at Locksmith Philly are, hands down, THE BEST locksmiths in Philly. Not in a "yeah, they are pretty good way" but in a "holy crap, I'm starting a Yelp account and writing my first review that's how good they are" kind of way. I'll tell you exactly why below (hint: the best prices by far, super friendly, and they very clearly all your options), but if you're just scrolling through looking at reviews because you need a locksmith right now, STOP...and call Locksmith Philly right away. So why are they the best? First, when you call Locksmith Philly, Leo and his two partners are actually the people coming to fix your lock. This isn't a call service that forwards you to some random fly by night locksmith. You call Locksmith Philly, you get Leo or one of his two partners. That's it. Second, the price. As an owner of multiple properties in Philly, I find myself having to call locksmiths fairly often. Unfortunately, I'm almost always left feeling like I've been scammed. Why? Because you don't need to be an economist to understand that when you usually call a locksmith, you are desperate - to get in to your car, your house, whatever. They know that, and they charge you...A LOT! Not Leo and Locksmith Philly. My electronic keypad died and the emergency key was locked inside of the house. To drill out the lock, install a new lock, make me 6 additional keys (2 each for the 3 locks in the house) AND rekey my backdoor I was charged $50 less than what it cost me to have a locksmith come out and just open my door last time. It's insane! Lastly, Leo has to be one of the nicest guys on the planet. Not only was it fun to chat with him, but he also took the time to explain everything he was doing and my options. Instead of just telling me to get a new lock, he spent an hour trying to fix the old one just in case I could use it. When we couldn't salvage the old one, he then offered to drive to Home Depot to buy me a new one! And then, on top of all that, he even helped me put together the old one, put it back in the box, and told me exactly what to tell the company when I called to return it so I'd have the best chance to get a refund (since the lock had malfunctioned while it was under warranty). That't not service...that's like having a best friend! Which, after meeting Leo, I feel like I've gained. I needed a locksmith willing to change a lock on an apartment door while allowing the building manager to safeguard the master key. The dispatcher said that this would not be a problem. Otari, one of the company's locksmiths, was dispatched to the building immediately. The on-duty engineer brought Otari the master key and stayed with him the whole time he was using it, even following him outside to his truck when he rebuilt the lock. Afterwards, Otari did me the favor of taking a few photos and texting them to me (I was not in the area and wanted to see if there was any damage to the unit). I asked him to text me an invoice, which he did, in the amount quoted by the dispatcher. The lock works great with both the new key and the master key. Locksmith PHILLY did a superior job.
