on Tuesday the 29 the of September, I found myself with a broken key to my van while I was running errands between work. the let somehow jammed out locked my steering wheel and wouldn't allow me to unlock it so I couldn't get my van started. I called there different lock / emergency services. after several minutes and several frustrating return calls,I have up on them and saught the third, 'locksmith on wheels' - the third time was indeed a charm. I waited less time for Matt to arrive then the time spent with the first two calls and I have to say how much I appreciate his response. I'm short older he was able to get the steering wheel unblocked which allowed my van to start but that didn't solve the problem. He removed the cylinder and for that my key had, being broke had damaged some of the 'wafers', ( internal parts ). I need a new key cylinder, except it has gotten very late in the day and I wanted to get my van home, across town. For the next hour or so he diligently disassembled the cylinder with file in hand and went to work. By the time he reinstalled it, I was back on the road. And as soon as possible I'll be seeing him again to install my new all cylinder. I appreciate his understanding that I didn't want to leave my work van overnight and that he stayed at it until I was able to leave with no hiccups. I enjoyed the conversation while he worked to reassure me he get it done and just the regular talk as time passed. Professional, considerate, nice guy stuff. Thanks again and again. I'll be him for the new lock soon. read more

I called to ask when they closed. It was 335p, and he said 5. I said I was on the way, was there less than 10 minutes later, and the door was locked. I called and someone picked up the phone and immediately hung up. It felt like they ran out because they knew I was coming. Bizarre. read more

Needed a lock to be rekeyed on New Year's Eve. Called around 10:30 AM. He was here, determined the cylinder needed to be changed on my smart lock, and was finished by 11:30. Quick, efficient, clean, polite and pretty reasonable price. Definitely recommend. So different from another, top rated locksmith nearby. Called them hoping for the promised quick reply. 3 hours later still no word. read more

This place is great. The owner is very nice and will try his best to help you with your needs. I'd recommend this place!!!

Gary is fantastic! very quick to respond and always a pleasure to deal with We are a business and have a commercial lobby that gets lots of use. Will only use him read more

I'm not a Yelp Review Person, but had to give these guys the credit they deserve. They came over immediately, switched out my locks on two doors, made copies of my keys, went back to their home base to make a copy of a key whose model they happened not to have on hand, and came right back with the copy. Super nice and convenient, would definitely recommend. read more

I recently walked in to have 1 copy each made of two keys that I had, and the gentleman at the counter told me it would be $6. While he was making copies, he took a phone call (no problem, businesses are busy!). But, turns out, he made 2 copies of one key, and none of the other. So now I have two copies of my fence key and no copies of my front door key. I understand mistakes happen, but frustrating that the employee was distracted on the phone while performing this quick copy. I do not recommend. read more

I have called this company twice. Each time they came when they said they would, which was within hours of my call. They knew exactly what I needed to fix my situation. Fairly priced. I recommend them highly. read more

Gary and his workers have done locks for me multiple times. They are the go to in the neighborhood, support local businesses! Professional and always treat me right. During my last re-keying they noticed the door jamb padlock needed to be "grinded" to make the mechanism work seamlessly. I had noticed it but didn't have to say anything. They were proactive as always with their great customer service and timely show up, much appreciated! read more

Gary was super responsive and very helpful! I ultimately didn't need him to come and do the work-- but if all contractors were like him, there'd be a lot less headaches for everyone. Highly recommend. read more

Hired to rekey my locks after moving, arrived promptly at the arranged time and worked quickly while talking tirelessly. Fee seemed a shade high, but work was performed quickly and he cleaned up after himself. read more

I hate writing negative reviews on a business in my neighborhood especially, but this is honestly one of the worst places in existence! Please do not go to this locksmith, go to anyone else but these guys. I've used them twice in store and the younger guy was very helpful, but recently I called them out to a location of mine.l after speaking with the owner over the phone. I recognized it was the owner because I've been here twice already. I told him EXACTLY what I needed and he gave me a price. 2 hours later he comes by and looks at my door and starts trying to upsell me. I explained to him that i had clearly told him what I needed over the phone and it made no sense that he was trying to charge me 3 times what he told me over the phone. He starts huffing and puffing then curses me out and drives off in his red van. I'm sorry your scam didn't work on me but you don't need to start cursing me out while standing on MY porch. As a business owner, I know there are miscommunications sometimes but I would never ever curse a customer or potential customer out. It was quite shocking. Don't go here. Read the other negative reviews. I'm not the only one. read more

FYI, this company tried to get me to pay 250 dollars cash to pick a lock. When I said no, they took 100 bucks on a card. Extortion. I've used a lockout service many times, 250 to pick a lock is highway robbery. read more

Excellent service and the keys were made correctly. Would definitely recommend, thank you.

Absolutely the best in the area! Quickly available and responsive, with a totally reasonable rate. Will use again.

Best locksmith in Fishtown! I've been using their services since I moved to the area in 2005. Always fast and professional.

These guys are the best. I bought a good sized commercial building and call them for all my lock needs. Their years of experience obviously showed when they picked some pretty hefty commercial locks and installed new ones flawlessly. They took the time to exp read more

Not the nicest, or most polite business in the world (or even on the block), but the work they do is top quality and the speed is there, too. Could they stand to be more personable? Absolutely. However, we're talking about making keys, here. I'd rather they cut great keys (or make sturdy locks) than be my friends. Anytime I need keys, this is who I'll go to. read more

Can't speak to the "smithing" part of this business, but I did have some keys made here. Was a little put off by their storefront, but then again, it's a locksmith. There was nowhere to sit or even stand while I waited though. The man who helped me was a little off putting. Another man came in half way through to assist in making the keys and he had a bit of an attitude. The keys work, but it cost me quite a bit of money for couple sets. I had a little bit of sticker shock when he told me the amount. I guess I'd go back if I had to have something done in a pinch, but otherwise I'll just keep passing by on my way to work. read more

Friendly and professional. I was locked out of my house one day and I believe his name was Gary came out within 15 minutes to work on my lock. Didn't take long and was reasonably priced! Will continue to use for my misadventures in locking myself out! read more

Really nice friendly guy. I walked in before work in the morning kinda in a hurry. Thought it was gonna take like 30 minutes to make my keys and be late for work a little. But he cut um and had it done in 1-2 minutes flat and got to work on time. Real convenient and cool business glad to have stuff like that in my area. read more

I used to work as a locksmith and I'm well aware of how keys work. This guy cut a key where neither the end of the key or the shoulder, which should stop the key in the right position as to align the tumblers and not damage the lock were very far off. I asked him to look at it. He said "it isn't my fault, here's your two bucks back." That's pathetic. If you can't put a key in the machine right you shouldn't be making keys. Not to mention he didn't dress it and I was picking burrs off of the edge while we talked read more

The Locksmith on Wheels was recommended by our regular locksmith who was out of town when we were locked out of our apartment on a Sunday night. Gary showed up promptly and quickly unstuck a seemingly unbudgeable key. His fee was extraordinarily reasonable. This is a person with integrity. While we were waiting for our regular guy to call us back, we called a giant outfit with a full page yellow page ad. Thankfully we cancelled them and got Locksmith on Wheels instead. We later read about how the big locksmith with a swithboard will rip you off. We are thrilled to have discovered The Locksmith on Wheels and grateful to our regular locksmith who recommended him. read more
