Gave Locked Adventures a try recently and played QFTT - quest for the throne. Nice large parking lot right off san marcos blvd. We arrived early as instructed so that we could fill out the electronic forms. We were then instructed to lock our things up, including our cell phones, in the provided free lockers. We entered a room with a video to watch and where 2 friendly and enthusiastic employees gave us instructions and answered questions. You can get unlimited hints and we did need several. We have done several escape rooms at several companies, but this one seemed a little more difficult. We did have an issue with a part of the game, so they did come in and help us get that sorted out, and they added on a little extra time, which we needed and used to escape. I am looking forward to going back and trying some of the other rooms in the future. read more

This place was super fun! The "game masters" (employees) are really great in what they do! They got into character right after explaining the rules and made the game interactive and fun since the start. We played the mad scientist escape room (45 mins) and passed with 8 minutes left! They are super helping when it comes to asking for hints and I want to give a shout out to Chris who greeted us as soon as we walked in and he checked us in and had us sign waivers, explained what we were getting ourselves into and had us put all our stuff away in a locker. He was just super rad, and also a shout out to Emily our "game master" she was super sweet and a blast to have help us solve this game! We will definitely come back and book another game. read more

They went through the Quest for the Throne room, and after completing the escape room (with 4 minutes to spare!), the owner, Christine, was kind enough to sit down with the students to give them advice as to what kind of locks and puzzles they could do, and gave some fantastic recommendations for their upcoming event. She even offered to see the completed project to give the students feedback! I've given quite a few 5-star reviews on Yelp, but Locked Adventures is the only company I've reviewed that deserves an extra 5 stars. For our January pick, my friends and I decided to take a road trip down to San Marcos to escape vampires in the V room (90 min room) and run from zombies in Dystopia (60 min). We got there in earlier than expected and they were kind enough to let us start our room early after listening to the rules. We finished V in about 58min and it was so much fun! This one was super interactive and everything worked as it should! The puzzles were good. We were able to move onto the next room right away, and finished Dystopia in about 29 minutes. The V room is supposed to be more scary than Dystopia, but I thought Dystopia was a lot more scary. We actually ended up staying and finishing all the other rooms because we finished the first two so quickly. We finished each room in record time. One of their first rooms, Quest for the Throne, was different because it was a lot more about puzzles. Everyone at Locked Adventures was so nice! We even met the owner, Jim! I highly recommend coming out and checking all the rooms if you can. read more

My family went to this place for my daughter's birthday party. And to say the least, this place was AMAZING. We entered the place, and we were greeted by the very friendly staff. We checked in and waited at the couch. It had an assortment of puzzles for the kids to play with while we waited for the group to show up. My kids' perspective from here: The game master, Jada, was very friendly and showed us the rules immediately. She also explained the backstory of the room and answered our plethora of questions. We did the "Quest For The Throne" room, and it was very exhilarating and fun. There are unlimited hints and cameras in the room. This helped the accuracy of the hints that we asked for. It was a somewhat challenging room with several puzzles. It is divided in two parts and has a very cohesive design. The theme is on point. We had a blast. We did not complete the room due to a missing puzzle piece, however when we told the game master, she paused the timer and came into the room to help us look for it. It was overall a very fun experience. In addition, the party room has several games such as foosball and pinball to play after the escape room. My perspective: This establishments is filled with amazing customer service and was very flexible and accommodating to our needs. Locked Adventures is located in San Marcos. Rare to find, there are two games offered for 2 persons (Mad Scientist and The Curse of KV62), and all the games are private. Most games cost $25-$35 per person. Today, we came in team of our typical two to try Mad Scientist. The game is very well thought out, had amazing props, flowed well and we finished with 9 minutes to spare! This game's duration is 45 minutes. For those who want to get into details, the storyline starts with a virus infection rampantly spreading even onto the players (us)...very appropriate for the current coronavirus situation lmao... and we need to find the anecdote as the scientist has gone missing. When you are using the scientific props, it's hard to believe what you are seeing or doing but it's all real. Mad Scientist was a small room but I am thoroughly impressed. It had non-stop action and the majority of it is intuitive as it should be. Hints are delivered with typed screen and unlimited or only if requested. There were no hiccups and our GM was right with us the entire way. I will definitely be back, and if I can gather more people, try all the bigger rooms as well. We did the Mad Scientist room and it was a blast! 3 of us cleared the room, 2 of us have been through 50+ escape rooms and our friend came for his first escape room. We are escape room enthusiasts who have done 100+ rooms and during our San Diego vacation we decided to drive to San Marcos to play Locked Adventure's 90 minute "V" escape room. Maybe we were just having an "off day" but everyone in our party felt like the best way to describe this room was "clunky". The room decor was pretty cool and there were several things we really liked about the room, but overall we felt like the puzzles weren't really intuitive and we just kinda fumbled our way through each of them. They also told us that this room "is very non-linear" and mayyyyybe in the very beginning that is true, but pretty quickly it becomes very linear. We liked the set decor and the hint system a lot, the "in room guest" (not a live actor) was helpful and funny! There were a few really cool puzzles but more frustrating ones, where we knew what to do and were doing it, but clunky design make it hard to execute correctly. We finished this room in 69 minutes and we all really believe this is a 90 minute room not so much because there is so much to do, but because some of the clunky puzzles take so long to execute correctly. We talked about this a lot after we finished and just couldn't find anything to feel "wowed" about. While we were there (in the lobby), we could hear the people playing the Zombie game and they sounded like there were having a GREAT time haha so maybe that's the better room? This was just a very okay room for us. read more

Okay, I really wanted to give this place five stars, but no can do. Most of the people, most, that I spoke to are friendly and helpful. I had one employee give me a break through (without ruining the room of course) of each room to see which one better fit what I was looking for. She was awesome! I had to switch rooms and times a few times due to planning a birthday party and people flaking or changing their mind last minute and they were very understanding and accommodating. Definitely great customer service. But here's why they don't get the other two stars. The owner Jim was feisty and rude. The last time I called to switch the room he tried to get me to book the mad scientist room to which I said no because my kids weren't into science that much. He proceeded to say that didn't matter to which I responded that one of his employees specifically said that room best suited people who are into biology. Well, Jimbo didn't like that and immediately changed his tune with a snarky "well I don't know who said that but whatever" comment to me. Like really? I'm just going based on what your employee said. No need to be bitchy about it but in his words, "whatever." The day of the reservation, the girl we were talking to seemed new. She kept asking the wife of the owner when and how to do stuff. Keep in mind, it was the first escape room for my kid and his friends and I really wanted them to have a good time. I asked the owners wifey if our game master was new and that I possibly wanted a more experienced one to which she responded, with attitude, that she wasn't new and was "really good." Okay then. After the kids "escaped" I asked how it went and they were disappointed. The "really good" game master pretty much walked them through the entire room without them asking for any hints. Which the whole point to these rooms is to figure things out not to have someone tell you how to unlock everything. So I'm disappointed at the owner's behavior and the fact the the employee wasn't trained appropriately to guarantee a good time for customer's. With so many other escape rooms, I'll be looking elsewhere for escape rooms for all the parties and get togethers I have planned for the year. Which sucks because their Dystopia room sounds like a good time. But, I refuse to give my money to rude owners. read more

this place is super awesome. Our team did the zombie game-and OMGEE - it was scary!! But it was soooo fun. The actor/zombie got us really good! They do have a safe bunker that they can't get you in. The puzzles were fun, the immersion was on point, we really felt like we were in an apocalypse! The staff was so very friendly and explained everything, but they way they set the mood and tone for the game got us really in the mindset of what we were about to do. i don't remember the guy's name that ran our game, but he was awesome. Awesome escape room in San Marcos! Located near Fry's, in the shopping center with the Scrubs store, very easy to spot. There is plenty of parking available. My group of 6 came here this past Saturday & did their Dystopia room & had a great time! While in the waiting room, they have small puzzles to do & in the back there are table games (there was a birthday party happening so we were not able to check out the games). They currently have 3 games, with Dystopia being their thriller/scary room of the lot. There is a live actor there but do not be afraid! & fog too, which I typically hate, but it was not overwhelming where you feel like you cannot breathe. Overall, the puzzles were great & fun! While on vacation we figured why not give this one a try, we tried "Hunting Dracula" , it was well thought out, quality props, lots of different puzzles, and our game master did a great job. I'm really happy and excited for what Locke's Adventures keeps putting together. Try out these new games, there's really something for everyone. Highly anticipated the opening of Locked Adventures and we were not disappointed! Quest for the Throne is legit! The room is quite immersive , has good puzzles and a good amount of them, and a nice soundtrack while playing the game! Puzzles are primarily Gen1, but well put together. The props are also high quality. We did the room with 8. (4 of us actually work at escape rooms) we finished with 22 minutes to go. Literally one of most, well-executed escape room collections I've had the pleasure of visiting! They really go all out on giving you a fully immersive experience. The room themes are unique and the storylines fit perfectly with the designs and puzzles. They spent a lot of time on details in each room, making it feel as though you're genuinely in a different place/time/era. The staff is super rad, too! Christy, the owner was so helpful and gave us lots of wonderful information about all the other games. We did The Mad scientist which was super fun and totally doable with 2 people.
