This restaurant has an old rustic fine dining vibe to it. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy. I like that they offered a brunch option along with their normal menu. We got the Salish Sea Omelette and the Seafood Pasta, both of which were delicious. Our waitress also brought us some complimentary mini blueberry muffins which were so tasty. I probably would've bought some to take home if it was on the menu. I also liked that they gave out some chocolate mints at the end of our meal. Overall a decent restaurant with tasty dishes for a little above average price.

Locals is located next door to the Old House hotel. Located near the mouth of the Puntledge River, this heritage building provides a warm and intimate atmosphere. Finding Locals was a very accidental, but pleasant discovery when we were staying in Courtney. The indoor dining room was fully booked on a Friday evening but there was plenty of room on the inviting large, scenic patio surrounded by a beautiful garden and walking path. The service was fantastic. After being seated, within a couple of minutes, we had a pleasant server who brought water and took our drink order and delivered it within minutes. Our server was also polite and informed about the food and wine choices. After discussing the menu, we decided on the Comox Valley charcuterie boardand beef tenderloin. Unfortunately, we dove into the charcuterie board and forgot to take a picture. The pasta accompanying the beef tenderloin was al dente with a phenomenal mushroom beef sauce. The beef was tender and melted in your mouth. I would order this dish again! We had a wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone in Courtney or visiting from out of town!

I was a bit worried when the wine I chose was no longer available but still on the menu but that was the only disappointment to the evening. We shared the raclette and apple salad for the starter which came split into two plates. The presentation was lovely and the salad was very interesting, a bit different and tasty. I had the delicious seafood trio. Not only were the fish offerings beautifully prepared and presented but the same attention was given to the vegetables that complemented the fish. I also really enjoyed the polenta. My husband had the prawn and scallop curry and he enjoyed every morsel of this succulent dish. We were pleased to be offered an amuse bouche to start and then a tiny sweet with our coffee (we were too full to order dessert but the little raspberry ganache was delightful!). The service was attentive and friendly. The room was pretty loud but there was a large group dining together.

Do you love old character homes, wood beams, delicious foods, comfortable dining and friendly service? Then make reservations now, you won't regret it. My mother lives in the area and took me here for lunch. We loved our time here. The menu is diverse, well thought out and fresh; most items are made in house. They served tiny muffins to start, these were our least favourite as they tasted stale and bland - but they were complimentary and would've satiated anyone who needed it, so kudos to them for thinking of and offering these. For our lunch mains we had potato crusted fish and portobello mushroom on polenta. The fish was perfectly crusted and flavoured, served on a large bed of salad - this is the second time my mom has ordered this here, she really likes it. The mushroom and polenta I had was such a well rounded dish of flavours and textures, truly bravo. Neither of our dishes were heavy or oily, just deliciously fresh and well balanced with a generous helping of greens - we both cleaned our plates because it was so good, we were definitely full - the portion size was great, but the balancing of ingredients the kitchen does didn't leave us overly stuffed and feeling gross (thank you!). The vegan chocolate mousse cake was fabulous and went perfectly with a hot coffee. Such a beautiful dining experience. The old style glass window partitions they are using for covid are very classy. And it was perfectly decorated for Christmas. We'll done Locals! We'll be back for sure. Thank you!

I give this place full props for buying and supporting local farms and businesses that supply the ingredients. Great Ambience, Service and Location.. Extensive Wine Menu.. Wanted to start with something small and go from there to see what I liked or didn't like... Came here because the searched mentioned 'brunch' but came to find out that they only serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday.... Started with the Fish Chowder and an order or Artisan Bread and Butter.. Yes - there was a TON of fish in that small cup but the soup literally tasted like someone threw some fish in a pan and added Half-n-Half and loads of sugar... The soup was SWEET as in Ice Cream sweet... didn't know that was normal and NO TASTE whatsoever... NONE.... Added a ton of salt and pepper to get some flavor.... Also ordered Artisan Bread with Butter. The plate same with some kind of pumpkin bread and another variety, and a very small dash of butter which was just enough for one slice... At this point, decided not to order anything else, paid the bill and left... The likelihood of coming back here is very low...

We had lunch here today, and really enjoyed their new location. Beware, however, the signs for the restaurant's entrance are on the back side of the place. We got confused, and thought they were closed. Luckily, we walked around the building to the NEW entrance by the water, and found them open. Wonderful atmosphere! They have taken an old house and turned it into a trendy, dressy, relaxed dining experience. We had oysters as appetizer, and then I had oysters as my lunch with a side salad. Both were delicious. The service was attentive, and we are already planning to return for dinner tomorrow. Don't miss this one - it is a gem! read more

Most up-scale restaurants, you seem to only pay for the atmosphere and the food usually isn't that great. This restaurant is one of the only places where the atmosphere is great, the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. We would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

Safe to say that this is the best restaurant in the comox valley. Ingredients are always fresh and tasty. I love the free little appies before the meal and house made chocolates to finish. Beautiful building and the patio is large and heated. Fantastic service every time I've been there. read more

Brunch, lunch or dinner, this restaurant never fails to be amazing! The servers are always polite and efficient and the food is always of the best quality. This is one of the few restaurants that I will trust to order seafood in. On the last visit I had the Westcoast chowder that was delicious. Exceptional service, ambiance and cuisine. We were in the mood for seafood and seafood is what we got! Seared tuna, oysters, jumbo prawns, lobster & crab cakes, crab, salmon, clams, mussels and scallops!!!! It was a feast and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend to those looking for seafood. Great portion sizes too. read more

This time the restaurant have relocated to the old house which is filled with the old cottage feel atmosphere. We first have the fanny bay oysters. Although it only came in 4 pieces, it was super delicious, so you pay for what you get. It was lightly deep fried with just the right amount of oil in them. Very juicy! Then we have the seafood linguine which is packed with lots of seafood in a very creamy sauce. I just loved the candied salmon, it was really good. We also had the bison meatball linguine with truffle oil, but the flavouring was much too strong and rich. Maybe that just wasn't our cup of tea. Otherwise, service was ok and because it took us a while to flag down the server to give us our check, I will give it only 4 star. read more

I don't say this often, but I'd say this was a flawless meal. The Dine Around menu was on when we went, and both decided to go with that. All the dishes ordered were delicious. We also had a half liter of a local pinot noir that was quite nice. Nice space. Enjoyed the pics of the farmers/fishermen they buy from decorating the walls. Great service, and reasonable prices for the quality of the food. Highly recommended. read more

I went here for lunch with a friend and we both really enjoyed it. Lovely restaurant, great service and the food was superb. We both had a bowl of the corn chowder to start and I wish I could have bought a gallon of it to take home with me! It was by the far the best version I have ever had - and I've had many. Then I had local mussels that were delicious. My friend had a wrap that she said was very tasty. My only suggestion would be to serve plain bread, not toasted, with the mussels so it would be easier to sop up the wonderful sauce. And it would be nice to have a gluten-free option too. We shared the dessert platter, which was a sample of four desserts - and quite generous servings - and enjoyed them all. How I wish I lived closer so I could go there more often. I will look forward to my next trip to the island. read more

Drinks take 15 plus minutes, the server would walk away while you would be making your order. food was amazing, atmosphere was loud, no music, and unfriendly. I would not recommend this establishment for any future food goers. read more

The finest meal I've had in a long time! Spinach salad with pickled onions, beets and bacon, followed by sable with grilled vegetables (hold the goat cheese). Beaumont vineyards Gewurtztraminer and coffee afterwards. The location is unassuming, but the food is fabulous. read more

What an amazing restaurant! Everything on the menu sounded amazing! Very hard to choose....our party of three were all super impressed with their meals and we got dessert even though we were already full. I personally loved that vegan dessert options were available. Ambiance is nice. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food in this Courtenay restaurant (sorry, expected mediocre food in Courtenay given we are from San Francisco). Waitstaff very knowledgeable about menu options and gave us substitutions where we requested them. We wanted to go back Sunday night but they are closed :( and we are pretty sure we won't find anything to compare to Locals...don't think about it, just go eat there!! read more

I think Locals is the best upscale restaurant in the Comox Valley. Their food is always fresh, consistent, & delicious. Their brunch, lunch & dinner menus offer a variety of meals suitable for any diner. They also have a delectable menu of martinis/cocktails, & desserts. I love that they serve locally raised/grown products. My favorites include the potato crusted fish, bouillabaisse, seafood linguini, creme brûlée. Bon appétit! read more

This Resturant is amazing. Although the food is amazing, what really struck me was the environment. The servers are comfortable, smiling, and just pleasant. There does not appear to be a stress about them and so the whole place feels like it just works the way it should and has been doing so for a long time. If you have a chance to talk with Trish, co-owner of Locals, she is a gem to talk with. She knows the names of all the people that supply the restaurant with food because she and her Husband Ronald have personal relationships with everyone involved in the business. There hiring practices are top notch team building. Oh ya, did I mention the food was literally amazing! And that was the a very small part of what impressed me in this superb establishment. read more

Beautiful throughout food and environment. Will appeal to most palates and yet done with particular attention to sourcing of ingredients keeping things as local as possible. I am SO happy their is not a TV in site. Pricey but usually worth it. Love that they provide an amuse bouche as well. Not Guy Michelin rating but relatively speaking, definitely 5 stars. I came with house slaw and tartar sauce. We really liked the slaw because it was tossed in a sweet vinaigrette instead of mayonnaise. The great: The restaurant uses all local food (hence the name) and the patio garden is lovely The good: vegan options!!! But they aren't very good The bad: the vegan options are lacking y'all. They need a vegan charcuterie board/cheese board and more knowledge of which wines are vegan I have to say that the service was lovely and the staff were friendly, but I needed better knowledge of what was vegan and what isn't. I didn't feel confident that what I was ordering was actually vegan or if they were just assuming. In 2021 a nice restaurant like this needs to know and needs to put it on the menu so we know care was put into it. They also need to make their amazing menu more vegan friendly. You know gen z is about the planet not burning so that means we do t eat meat or dairy! Catch up! read more
