I was in the area the other day, so I decided to stop in. I found a shirt I wanted, but they didn't have my size out. When I went to look for an employee I found him just sleeping at the desk. Thankfully, a female employee was there to wake him up and help me out. In my time there the male worker was just singing and laughing. Spent 200 trying to support the town after devastation. When I looked at receipt I was overcharge $5.00. Item was price on tag $55.00. Brought it to his attention to which young boy said there was nothing he could do. I asked him to call manager and he came back to say register says $60 so he had to keep it. Visited from California in May 2023 went to purchase some local motion clothing on vacation. Was greeted by staff that was really nice and very helpful. Jachia and Nate had outstanding customer service and they both went out of their way to provide me and my boyfriend with a list of the best local restaurants to try during our stay. We enjoyed the shop so much we made it back at the end of our trip to buy some more goodies. Thank you Jachia and Nate for providing excellent customer service and being genuinely kind!!!! Super friendly wahine working the store yesterday! My husband was looking to rent a longboard or funboard, and the places he was looking into were coming up short, and weren't helpful when asking for suggestions. He got to the point where he exclaimed, "shoots, I might as well buy a board from Local Motion." I thought that just maaaaaybe, they rent out? This location is really odd, almost feels like they are going out of business, minimal selection of pretty much everything. The gal working the store didn't even greet us, no aloha spirit here. The two young ladies working the counter were super friendly and helpful. It's been awhile since I've seen a Local Motion around especially being from the mainland. I'm super picky with the brands I wear (ask my wife) and I was stoked I found 2 tees on the 2 for 20 rack! They also carry other brands RVCA, Hawaiian Style, Brixton, Yeti to name a few I saw. Snagged a bunch of stickers when we were there as well. Definitely worth a quick pit stop for one of the OG Hawaiian brands if you're staying in Lahaina or Ka'anapali area. K'Den Beaches! read more

I'm a surf-aholic when I'm in Hawaii but couldn't bring my board due to airlines charging $120 each way for oversize luggage. F* rip-off. SO, I had to rent a board and Local Motion really made it a very pleasant experience for me. They had a good selection of all sizes and shapes, mostly epoxy. The store was super helpful in telling me information about surf conditions, surf spots, calling the surf report for me. I was also able to switch out the boards for different surf conditions. I wanted a 7'3 they had but there was a ding near the fins. so the guy diligently fixed it and had it ready for me the next day to pick up. Talk about great customer service. read more

This store in Lahaina is in the same shopping center as Ross, Cafe Kihei Lahaina and Foodland. They may not have the largest selection of t-shirts and swim suits, but their customer service is beyond good. The 2 young lady sales persons were very helpful, attentive yet not over bearing and FULL of aloha spirit. Upon our request, we got a run down of their favorite local restaurants and managed to go to a couple of them on our short stay. Glad we got their recommendations. We bought all of our souvenir t-shirts there. read more

This was literally the ONLY place that carried a very specific DaKine hip pack and they had ONE left, so needless to say I was pretty damn excited! They also carried these LM dry bags which I got as a bday gift for me sister! They were super affordable, I wanted one really bad, but couldn't justify buying it, just to have one. (I did donate a whole bunch of stuff thanks to Marie Kondo *haha*). The wonderful woman with the beautiful smile(I'm sorry I didn't catch her name), was super helpful and although she was running the store by herself, she held it down and was very welcoming. The store is hot mess, LITERALLY. The employees have been working there for at least 4 months with NO AC-- it's like a sauna. As a person who worked closely with the Department of Health, I know this is a health code violation. I spoke to a couple of the employees there, they have mentioned passing out due to heat and no water, whatsoever, provided by the company. Local Motion has been my favorite surf brand since the 70's. I'd go visit the one in Oahu everytime I went there in the 80s and I love the one in Maui. I'll be back this summer and go back to check it out of course. read more

My husband and I spent almost 2 weeks in Maui and while there, my husband and a friend both rented surf boards from Local Motion. My husband left his credit card number with Local Motion as a deposit in case there was damage or if he didn't return the board. When we returned the surf boards, the employee was unable to process any of the multiple credit cards we gave her because her machine wasn't working. She took our information including both of our credit card #'s, phone numbers and gave us a receipt acknowledging the total we each owed--$120. And we left. A week or so later, we noticed on our statement that both week long rentals were charged to our account. We called and spoke to the manager regarding the double charge. He acknowledged the double charge but refused to issue us a credit. We are now in the process of disputing the extra charges with our credit card company. My husband go to Hawaii every year and always rent some sort of equipment (surf boards, paddle boards, snorkel gear) but we will NEVER rent from Local Motion and will be sure to tell as many people as we know about the terrible service we received. read more

Went in recently to try and purchase one of their long boards that they've been using as a rental. Even though they didn't want to part with it, they gave a couple really good referrals that lead to a successful purchase. Props for keeping their logo consistent over the years. read more

I've been coming to Local Motion for over 30 years, at this new store and the original that was on Front Street. Many comments were complaints about service and not getting greeted. Surf shops are very low keyed and the employees will try to assist you if you just ask. The store has some great deals if you look and in my opinion, this is one of the first places we come to when in town and looking for new board shorts and women's swim wear. read more

Us surfer girls always want new bikinis to keep us looking good in the water. A lot of surf shops are known for having 'attitude' or being 'too cool'. Local Motion is definitely an exception- the customer service is AMAZING and the selection is really good too. The staff is genuine and go out of their way to make you feel welcome:) Nikki, Kevin (loved him!) and Willy were all super friendly. They were also knowledgable about not only clothing but surf gear. Thanks Kevin for the great suggestions as to what new fins I might try. Being a girl sometimes the guys don't want to help you out- but these boys were FABULOUS. I had a delightful time shopping at Local Motion and both employes in the store were very warm, welcoming and helpful. They greeted me when I walked into the store, helped me find what I wanted and needed, showed me where the dressing room was, stayed nearby and answered all the questions I had. It was a really positive experience for me. PS. The salesperson last night was really friendly and helpful. She was patient with me as I called my brother to ensure that he would like the shirt I would get him. Her patience with me paid off with me buying the shirt that my brother would like (i.e., simple black t-shirt with "Hawaii" in orange; and the "ii" in Hawaii were palm trees). First of all, like some other people said, the staff don't say " hi " unless we say hi. We were there to get a skateboard but their knowledge for skateboards was so poor and this girl who helped us wasn't sure if the trucks were charged individually so went into the back to check and came back. She sais they charge individually so it's $46 each. $ 92 for both which was more than a board itself!! I was wondering if that's right but since she came back from the back and apparently checked it for us, I didn't say anything. They asked me if I needed a help for assembling so of course I said yes. I thought the assembling service would come with the board. We left the store and came back to pick up our skateboard later. What a surprise!! They did a terrible job. The deck looked horrible and it wasn't glued properly. The side of the gripped deck was jagged up and not straight at all. We didn't really check in the store so couldn't see that but we went outside and noticed. So, we took it back inside right away and asked the girl staff if that's normal. She said, " Oh, our razor was rusty....." When I heard it , I was speechless for a second. But I asked her if they can redo it and she said they will. So I left the board at the store. The next day, we came to pick it up. She wasn't there. This other guy said, " it looks better, right?" Not really......I had to take it even though I still didn't like it. I also asked this guy about the truck that she charged for both. I was almost sure trucks are sold for a pair......He went somewhere ( again!! like the other girl did.) came back , " I'm sorry , yes it should be for both so we charged too much" Ugh! So they ripped me off if I didn't ask that question........I wonder if they double charge to everybody who buys trucks at local motion. I will never go back there again. Terrible and horrible service. I regretted that I bought the skateboard from them. read more
