As soon as I entered the store, I got excellent assistance from Lorna. She came over and asked if she could help me find anything. It turns out that she really knows her merchandise and what approximate sizes fit just by looking at your body type. She was able to access and quickly find me several outfits that fit perfectly. The store is filled with unique, elevated but playful items and Marilou helped us choose gifts for family back home. I was lucky enough to stumble on this little shop while on vacation and noticed they were lacking any current reviews. As I'm always looking to support good local businesses, and especially anyone that carries beautiful clothes for ALL sized women, I thought I needed to write a review: If you are looking for flattering, artistic clothing this is your place! Washable silks in beautiful designs to glide over your body and present a statement piece that will get everybody talking! Dress up or down, however you want to make an entrance. I took lots of photos so you can see what I mean. If you are looking for flattering comfortable basics to put these beautiful silks over or just to have something light and comfortable to wear, also dress up or down, they've got that too. And I'm not talking cheapo fabrics that will shrink or disintegrate after one washing. They have quality fabrics with flattering cuts. I got column style maxi dresses in both white and black with a flattering bias layer, perfect to build upon with scarf or silk "jacket" or "poncho." They also have short dresses in a similar flattering style but with hidden pockets! You can choose with sleeves or sleeveless and oh so comfortable. Of course there are pants & tops as well, sarongs, accessories, jewelry and much more but I can't cover it all. And here's my favorite part: extremely helpful ladies to get you get exactly what you're looking for! Great with suggestions, getting you fit properly, and Evette even did a quick stitch to tack up my dress straps so I could wear it while on vacation. Seriously, when was the last time someone did that for you? Thrilled with the service I received! I only wish I had a shop like this back home. Now before you go thinking this review sounds too good to be real, I assure you, it is! I'm just a really happy customer that spent years in high-end retail and miss finding both quality clothing and customer service and at reasonable prices. So if you're lucky enough to be visiting Maui, stop in for yourself to see. They've got beautiful things for you to wear on vacation. 5-stars on the service alone! Can't say enough great things about Yvette! My sister and I approached a tall rack of sarongs that caught my sister's eye. The minute she grabbed one, Yvette approached us with so much information and ideas on how to creatively use a sarong. She's amazing! She was engaged with us the whole time and shared stories about her family and other applicable experiences. She also would bring other pieces of clothing to show my sister such as a design my sister may have been looking at or trying on but in a different color or print. She was really helpful, warm and friendly. They have a gem of an employee! She needs a raise! :) We had been there a good 2 hours! She never gave up on us or made us feel like we are just 'lookie-loos' who probably won't end up buying anything. My sister ended up buying a $89 dress. She was nice to even offer kama'aina discount. So it came out to $72. Overall, great experience with Yvette! I would give 4-stars on overall selection/inventory. It's a cute boutique but mostly styles for an older demographic. They do have a few pieces that could be targeted to a young audience, but the overall impression is a that of a very mature-style offering. I would also give 4-stars on quality. Yvette shared that a lot of their fabrics are hand printed/painted (?) and that you wouldn't find any of their clothes for a much cheaper price at stores such as Ross or TJ Max, which is what happened when my sister bought a swim suit cover from a neighboring store to Serendipity on one of our prior trips to Maui. It is quite pricey here for their clothing, but I would imagine that's in direct correlation to the quality and longevity of their clothes. read more

I went looking for a casual dress and found that plus several coordinating pieces I would not have tried had she not suggested them. She got my size - I'm unbalanced on top/bottom and she was right about what would work. One piece was too long in strap and she quickly adjusted it - no charge. I'll be back every time I get to Maui. I visited the store on Front Street in Lahaina during a September 2007 cruise vacation. I was amazed at the fabulous finds, assuming, of course, that none of the sizes would fit my ample proportions. I looked wistfully at the beautiful Indonesian lacy items, perfect for the dressier nights on board ship - and was delighted when a very helpful sales lady brought several colorful outfits in my size. I ended up buying two exquisite long print jackets, handcrafted in Bali. My colleague bought a gorgeous shawl of radiant colors and several pairs of earrings. We loved the beautiful handbags, no two alike, but the prices hovering from $250 to $500 were much more suitable for the celebrities who often shop there than for my budget! Many items in the store were very reasonable, however! The sales staff were lovely, welcoming and very sweet. I will never miss that store if I'm back in Maui....that a the fabulous ice cream place nearby - Lappert's. read more

I've got mixed reviews on this place.... When you first walk in, it's nicely stocked with amazing material but the prices are a bit high. I am a little disappointed in the service since I wasn't aware of some specials.... Being overwhelmed with looking at all the racks, I went the next day to try to buy one more sarong but they wouldn't let me cause it wasn't the same day.... If it were my business I would've allowed any sale.... It's a sale. Plus.... I probably would've bought more w the extra coupon from the last purchase. But because they couldn't allow it within 24 hrs... They lost more of a sale. Too bad read more

Okay well the lady who helped me was superb and I didn't get her name. But this place is definitely a shop for tourists and not for locals. It is wayyy too expensive. I bought a silky tank top that was $60 dollars, it ended up not matching the pants I planned it for, so I tried to return it (with tags on and receipt and within 2 days of purchase!!) and they have a ZERO return policy. They will give you store credit. That really ticks me off. However, they are one of the very few stores on this side that carry dressier attire, not your usual casual beach bum clothes. Also, they give Kama'aina with a local ID of 10% if you sign up for their emails. But, if you have the choice go to Macy's. read more

The most helpful and friendliest customer service ever encountered in a boutique store. They have sizes for all. Clothing in different sizes was brought to me and I found something perfect for me, completely with the sales woman's help. Then. She steamed the outfit for me on the spot without me asking because she knew that I had to wear the outfit in two hours. I was shocked when she told me that she was an employee and not the owner because of the personalized, non-pushy, truly genuine customer care that I received. I've heard nothing but good things about this store from my sister so I went out of my way to hunt it down and I'm glad I did. I will always return to the store when in Maui. I LOVE this store, the whole chain of them in fact! I know that my clothing tastes run a little to the boring (jeans and t-shirts and hiking boots are the norm) but every time I go to Maui I get something from Serendipity. Their skirts are my favorite and are perfect for tromping around in heat you aren't accustomed to yet - light, flowing fabrics that catch the breeze and let you cool off without having to run around with your skirt hiked up. I am not a size 7 so I don't venture into the land of small, revealing clothes if I can help it, but if you do prefer that style you will be able to find it without problem. The sales people are very nice and helpful, and will bring matching pieces to you in the dressing room so you don't have to go searching for another piece of the outfit or another size that is more appropriate to your body shape (all you skinny people won't know what I'm talking about ). The colors are black (my fav.), white (also good, though sometimes see-through) and vibrantly colored patterns that generally have some shade of aqua, or some other color that is equally as bright, for the main color (just too colorful for me). I never leave Maui without a piece of their clothing in my suitcase! read more

Undoubtedly beautiful clothes but a very poor experience. Purchased an expensive (but unfortunately unsuitable) gift for Mother as a thank you for bringing us to Maui. We were *not* notified of any restrictions on return policies as we are keenly aware of such policies when travelling so far away from home. Upon trying to return the new, tag-still-on goods a little over a week later, we've been notified that our receipt indicates a no return policy that was never brought to our attention. Now we're stuck with expensive goods that we have no use for, and the only solution offered is a gift card to a store that's half a world away from where we live, and we can supposedly shop with pictures emailed to us, and absorb extreme shipping costs. A definite low point on a trip to an island usually known for its service industry. Can't help but feel as though we've been "had" as tourists who expect full disclosure from staff on restrictive policies - especially on expensive purchases at a high end store. I would expect this type of customer indifference from street shops selling $5 t-shirts, not a boutique clothing store. read more
