I can't believe I haven't tried Mi Ranchito until now! I am such a huge fan - I think the…read morerestaurant is beautiful, both the inside and outside. Service is super friendly and the menu is so much fun - so many different options - both breakfast and lunch/dinner. This is one of those places that makes you just love Austin. I want to go back and try so many different things. The breakfast items I had were all fantastic! Migas, pancakes, tacos etc. I both recommend Mi Ranchito to local friends as well as will absolutely take my friends and family that visit to. Def on my Austin faves list!

We eventually moved outside where it was much quieter but humid. We ordered a mole enchilada plate and a flauta plate. When they brought our food and asked about napkins, silverware, condiments, etc., and then we were told oh you have to get up and go back inside and get them yourselves. This was after we had left a tip at the register. So, be sure before you sit down you get your silverware napkins and condiments. No one pointed that out as we checked out and paid and left a tip. The lady at the register seemed very friendly, but she had to ask someone to substitute french fries for my refried beans and they seemed very reluctant to do so. Not sure why I told him it's OK just put the beans on it, but they finally relented and gave me fries instead of refried beans.. I have to say my mole enchiladas were barely above room temperature. The flavor was OK but nothing else standing. The fries also had that kind of frozen flavor like they've been in the freezer for a long time before being cooked. The flautas were pretty good, but again nothing outstanding. Overall, I would say we had an average lunch. It was nice to try somewhere new but I'm not sure. I would drive out the way to go back.

I thought the…read morepotatoes looked a little underdone at first, but they turned out insanely crispy and packed with flavor. The woman behind the counter is the heart of the place. She knows everyone by name, remembers birthdays, and even knows people's usual orders before they say a word. It gives the whole spot a true neighborhood feel. The sauces are spectacular. The orange and the green both bring real heat and make every bite better. If you want amazing Migas with service that feels personal, this is the place. This was my first time visiting for an appointment far south, gladly return if in the area again!

Great little dirty spoon taco place…read more Ambiance: Doesn't really have any to speak of simply a few tables and counter service. But, you don't come here for the ambiance. Service: You place your order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. Nothing special but, the service is always with a smile and the girls are always special to talk to. Food: If you're looking for the best tacos in Austin, this is the place to go. The Barbacoa (Mexican brisket) is a rich, shredded beef dish made by slow-cooking brisket with chipotle peppers, lime, cumin, and garlic until fall-apart tender. It is simply fantastic. Finally, their American breakfast pancakes are scrumptious. If you're in South Austin make this a must stop place.

Bright and sunny, wide open with lots of natural light, tasteful hanging planters, and minimalist decor, there's nowhere to hide. It's a place to see and be seen, but not nearly as pretentious as that sounds. They just care about the details and it shows, including the attentive service and well balanced drinks. Though I feel like I should crawl back into the dark, dank dive bars that I know best, it's a gorgeous breath of fresh air for those good hair days. Generous parking lot, easy off the highway, good evening hours. The only thing I'll knock it for is being so far south! Anyone in the neighborhood has better treasure this place, since I won't be able to get out there that often.

This entire place feels like a cash grab following the mezcal trend. It's positioned as being a tequila/mezcal spot but their drinks are more basic than cocktails I can order at the airport. When I asked questions about the mezcal they use and offer the bartenders replies were always dealt with either annoyance and limited info or just an "I don't know." Plus it's $$$ you tip on top of the tip they already add but say nothing about? The basic cocktails that are known as Mexican street vendor drinks (not supposed to be $$$) can cost you over $20 alone! Then to be shady about tipping ... cash grab without a good experience. The there's the atmosphere... very limited parking shared with MANY other more busy bars, super loud inside because of no soft surfaces, and the worst part of all... the bench seats are built just tall enough that unless you're super tall, you'll have to sit at the edge of the bench and actively practice good posture. This more than the other things makes me want to leave immediately. You designed a bar to be pretty but in no way functional to its use. It's been a while since my last visit and honestly I chalked all this up to Austin's trend chasing entrepreneurs typical disconnected launch until I had AMAZING cocktails at another new spot that truly impressed with their same priced cocktails that were far far more intricate and creative PLUS they didn't try to con me out of more tip AND their space was warm, and inviting with truly exceptional customer service. That experience reminded me that inflation isn't the only thing making life more expensive ... it's also businesses delivering far less value than promised and demanding we are supremely grateful for their limited effort. If you don't want to leave the neighborhood but you still want a somewhat decent margarita .... it ain't here. Pay half the price at Bodhi's in the same parking lot.
