So Emily P., Shilton, and I stopped by the Llanerch diner after a strange night of rooftop parties and overcrowded West Philly bars. First off, can I just say that I love the outside of this place? That ridiculous neon sign? Love it. The crowd was hilarious for a pre-Fourth of July night - everyone had to have been drunk, and plenty of obscenities were being thrown around. But that's what makes a diner. And the servers handled it with ease. I opted for eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, and toast - and it didn't disappoint. I'm fairly certain the sausage was homemade, as it was bangin'. Shilton ordered pancakes, which I stole a few bites of. They were absolutely decadent. All in all - this will have to become a regular late night pit stop again. read more

I'll level with you. There's no way I'd love this diner if the City Star Diner, which was closer to St. Joe's, hadn't closed after my junior year of college. Ultimately, that event led to me and my friends' love of the Llanerch. Foodwise, it's a diner. It ain't great, it ain't terrible, it's just there. It's there to fill whatever food need you may have at 3 am. Of course, at the time, it also filled the need to smoke tons of cigs, which you can't do anymore, but whatever. So yes, a late late late night treat, soo good! I got the pancakes - so delic! The service was friendly and fast, the way a diner should be. Sara C is a lot more patient with the drunken fools than I could ever be, I was about to throw a fork in one of those bro's eye but I restrained myself. The staff was good about the scene, but I guess that's what they're used to. Basically I'm totally going to opt for the Llanerch over other main line diners in the future. This diner has changed owners multiple times. However, the most recent owner seems to figured out the right combination on how to finally make it right. The only thing missing from the last ownership (that I really really miss) is the "Big L" chicken filet sandwich. It makes me sad that I will never be able to sink my teeth into that mouth watering delight. Oh well. This new owner has renovated the place removing the booth walls, changing the lighting and installing 2 flat screen TVs The biggest difference is that there is no smoking before 9PM...YA-HOO!!!!! If you don't want to wait to eat, my recommendation is to avoid Saturday and Sundays from 9am until about 2pm. It is usually packed inside those times and you will definitely end up waiting at least 5-10 minutes. The service is generally very good. It is usually quick any time of the day even in the busier times. The food is pretty good and the portions are big so bring your appetite! But I am still very sad about the " Big L". read more

Becca and I used to come here all the time mostly before our yelping days, and thought it was fine but never really had a bad experience here. Than we went to Springfield Diner and realized it beat this place on every level, better parking lot, service, food, price. So we didn't go back. Since the movie came out we took my mom here to show her where they filmed the movie and sat in a booth for 15 mins and got no service we left and no one noticed. Last time we went our waitress was having a conversation so loud with the booth behind me we couldn't even hear each other. Also another waitress was having a profanity laced convo with another customer so loud the whole diner could hear. I personally wasn't offended or anything but there were kids around (man I sound old) not cool in my opinion. The food isn't great just average and service and overall experience here is bad now. Guess they feel like tourists will always be able to talk about that time they went to the Silver Linings Diner and got terrible service. read more

The Llanerch is my favorite of the Main Line diners. Yes, even with the new ownership (which ain't so new anymore). The food hits the spot when you need grease, the inside is always grey and poorly lit, and the service is average. But man, just writing this review, I'm craving one of their omelettes with some home fries. Mmm... omelette. Also very good for late night chats. Excellent pie, and remarkable hot chocolate. I visited Llanerch Diner for the first time last week since I recently moved to the area. I chose this diner since they advertised free wifi and I needed to get some work done at 1 am (I work the night shift so it's slim pickings when it comes to accommodating establishments). Unfortunately my experience was extremely poor. The service was AWFUL. My waitress brought me my coffee and when I said I wanted some time to look over the menu it was easily 20 minutes before she returned. Once she brought me my food she was nowhere to be found, not even to check on me or refill my drink. After about an hour I heard her on the other side of the diner having an audible argument with another waitress. I don't know if it was the end of her shift or she was just pissed off, but my waitress left the the building after that. No one else came to check on me so it seemed as though I was on my own. I had to flag down one of the other waitresses to get a refill and when I was ready to leave I had to walk up to the counter to get my check. Something else happened that I must point out. A group of five 20-somethings walked in around 1:30 - CLEARLY inebriated and borderline belligerent - and the waitress still served them 2 rounds of drinks. I was shocked. Nice to see this establishment upholding the law. The food? I had a turkey club and the turkey was severely dry and drenched in mayo, I assume in an attempt to compensate for said dryness. The fries were typical diner fries. The coffee was good... that's about the only positive thing I have to say about this place. Would I go back to Llanerch? Maybe... if solely for the fact they're open 24/7 and have wifi available. At least now I know what to (or not to) expect. Oh, and I'll bring a jacket. The food there is amazing. However, the reasoning behind the three stars is the male owner that is such an aggressive, rude hobbit. Rather than greeting us at the door with a smile, he aggressively asks us how many people and screaming at his workers in front of the customers. Clearly, he's in this for only the money. If it were up to me, I wouldn't even bother going there but seeing how the workers there always greet us with a smile and asks professionally, I know my money is going to them, not him. read more

We went this morning for breakfast. Very friendly service and a giant menu! But man - they stick it to you on prices! $2.00 each for coffee; and about $10 each for breakfast. Well, it's a diner. I know they are all the rage out here, but I never quite got the appeal...it baffles me how any one place with a tiny kitchen can turn out *amazing* food that ranges from greek to american to italian to mexican and a menu of a couple hundred items. That's because it's never amazing food...but it's usually pretty good if you stick to basics. Open 24/7...fast and friendly service. We've loved our waitresses every time we go in. Seems like lots of regulars frequent this place as well. It gets crowded about 9:30am for weekend breakfast so get in there early. I prefer coming here for breakfast. The strawberry waffle was surprisingly good, bacon nice and crispy...scrambled eggs though reminded me of a Vegas buffet, aka not great. Chocolate chip pancakes were amazing though.... kept stealing them off my son's plate. Good coffee. Passable Greek food..interesting take on the gyro. My husband loved his eggs benny. OJ is not fresh squeezed but most likely Minute Maid with some type of pulp. Overall a solid place for a quick bite or even just for people watching. You can't beat a great place to get pancakes or a waffle. The Llanerch Diner still delivers the late night eggs after drinking happiness I've come to love over the course of my 30ish years. I grew up smoking and drinking coffee in diners (RIP Val-Rio Diner) and the Llanerch diner delivers. That is, they deliver greasy, unpretentious, eggs & bacon w/ flavorless diner coffee @ 3am (and I mean that in a good way!) Bonus points go to my ability to get a grilled corn muffin in the middle of the night. To my scrapple fans; skip it! So after the whole Silver Lining Playbook and Oscar ordeal I like many had to check out this diner. I can actually say that I was quite impressed. I thought it was going to be overrated. The diner itself was smaller looking than I thought it would be. They should a couple souvenirs as well. We came on a Sunday afternoon. Of course there was a wait but it wasn't long at all. Even tho I can I only eat a few things off the menu, the rest of the menu was unique from many other diners I thought. Sweet potato pancakes, creative omelettes, standard dinner foods, sandwiches. I opted for the veggie sandwich in a roll with minestrone soup. Sandwich was good, nothing different from anywhere else I can get the same thing. The minestrone soup was actually delicious. Homemade. Would I come back? Prob not since I'm not from this area but it was def nice to check out after all the movie hype. read more

Here's what I like about the Llanerch Diner: 1. Friendly, fast service. The waitresses have always been polite and attentive. When I first moved to the area, one of them informed me of the fastest way to get to my university. I really appreciated her guidance. 2. Delicious breakfast food. I generally order French toast or pancakes with a side of either eggs or sausage. Their sausage is particularly yummy (and this recommendation comes from a person who doesn't eat a lot of meat). 3. It's within walking distance of my apartment. Only two blocks away! This means I can avoid their parking lot on a busy weekend morning. 4. The other patrons. People-watching is one of my interests, and the late night crowd never fails to provide entertainment. I do wish the prices were not quite so high. Paying ten dollars for breakfast seems a little excessive for a grad student, so I try to limit my visits to this neighborhood landmark . read more

The food was okay. I do not believe this diner lives up to the hype. I got a short stack of banana pancakes. The pancakes were dense and did not have many bananas. The pancakes were pretty small, too, compared to normal diner pancakes. The service was terrible. Our waitress was not friendly and two of her tables got up and left throughout my time there. She was un-attentive and not very personable. The only reason I am giving this diner two stars is the atmosphere. The diner is really old, but I think it gives it character. I came in a bit before 9, ordered an item on the menus that said "served between 11-9", she took my order and came back and told me that if she put this in now there won't be enough time for the kitchen to make it. It was 9:02. All I ordered was pasta with chicken. So I ordered pasta and meatballs from opposite side of the page. I'll say this, the servers are super nice, polls and professional. The owners and waitresses are completely uninterested, the restaurant is stuffy, and the restrooms are completely filthy. So I'm a bit disappointed in this place. It's a local staple and I had high hopes to make it a go to but so far the food was blah. My boy had the pizza and while it was fresh the sauce was a bit tangy. I helped him eat it because my tango and jazz wrap was bleh. It was filled with dry chicken chunks, what tasted like canned mushrooms, as well as canned spinach. It was just not good. The soup was cream of broccoli and it was very good however. The service was very good. My boy and I went for dinner and everyone was so helpful and friendly it was great! If I could give a service star rating it's a 5 and a food a 2. I will come back again however as our choices were such a tiny microcosm of what this huge menu offers that I can't wait to try the breakfast as a diner of this stature has to have good breakfast!! read more

I decided to give this place another chance since my awful experience in 2008 when I first moved to the Philadelphia area. This is what happened in 2008: I ordered the chicken croquettes which I've never had. The first bite was pretty good! I take another bite and immediately spit it out. IT WAS FROZEN INSIDE!! So I tell the waitress and she apologized. It wasn't her fault and she offered to take it back and have them cook it more - to which I agreed. About 15 mins go by and I receive a darker version of the croquette. I happily cut a piece off and proceed to eat it and it's STILL frozen!! By this time my friend was already finished eating and at this point I didn't want to eat. The waitress apologized again and offered to comp my drink. Are you serious?? Had to get a manager involved to take my meal off the bill... My recent interaction with them was a delivery order. I had purchased the 69th Street Sampler which was almost $17. They didn't include any Jalapeno Poppers like stated in the description as well as no sauces. No Marinara for the mozzarella sticks.. No Ranch.. NOTHING!! Just some soggy ass food with nothing to dip it in. The only thing that wasn't soggy was the chicken wings which were supposed to be buffalo but were dry.. Before you ask, no I didn't see the movie!!!! As an Eagles fan, I just couldn't do it. That being said, onto the Llanerch. I LOVE the greasy spoon feel of this place. It takes you back to a time when the waitress would come up and ask "What ya having doll" The food was above average, even if I ended up wearing a good amount of butter!!! Came on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend (probably my mistake). Place was really understaffed. Our server had only our table on the left of the restaurant and then several tables on the opposite end, so she was extremely busy (not her fault) but she never came back to notice that the wrong food came to our table. It took 20+ minutes to get coffee upon ordering it. Toast never came. If we wouldn't have begged for our check, I'm not sure it would've ever came, as we never saw our server leave the other side of the place. Food was good but my mood was shot that I had already sat at a diner over 90 minutes. Management should at the very least give these servers tables in the same area of the restaurant. When other plans fell through, my friends and I still hopped in the car to head to The L. We were unexpectedly sober, but had late night diner food on the brain and that part of the plans wasn't going to change. The hot chocolate was a little bland, but topped with a veritable mountain of whipped cream. The meateaters got bacon, which was a bit saltier than they'd like but fried to perfection. The homefries were a little undercooked for my taste but at least weren't swimming in oil like you find in lesser diners. And the french toast. Dear heavens the french toast! Three slices that amount to half a loaf of bread and cooked just the way I like it. Usually when you order french toast with strawberries, you expect some syrupy frozen mess on top, but these were beautiful sliced berries, and enough of them that I had a slice with every bite. Even better, there was more than enough for me to take some home and have it again for breakfast. And I should mention that the radio had the most amazing mix of mid-90s music I've ever heard in one place. That might suck sometimes, but at 1 in the morning it's fun to sing along to the stuff you listened to as a kid. Let's be honest, no one goes to a 24-hour diner looking for culinary masterpieces. You go for decent food that will fill you up and help offset anything else you may have put in your body that night. The L does that for sure. read more

Although I usually don't partake here, I do enjoy a diner with a liquor license. The Llanerch feels like it hasn't been updated in decades, which I say a nostalgic compliment. It's open 24/7 which is great when you're looking for some comfort food after being stuck at work late. The downside would be the bros that tend to pop up weekend late nights, still buzzed from club and barking a waitresses. I've never had dinner here, but the breakfast is solid. The pancakes are fluffy, and the omelettes are cooked firm with generous amounts of toppings. It hasn't really changed much after it was shown in Silver Linings Playbook. What a wonderful diner! It's small so it can get crowded but if you come with a large party, there are a few areas where they can throw together a few tables to accommodate a lot of people. My experience here was amplified by one of the bus-boys who was incredibly friendly and funny sliding across booths and telling us funny stories he's witnessed in his time working there. Understand that this place is 24/7 so whenever you're hungry, remember this is open. If you order a salad (well, not all salads, I know the House salad has none of these), you will be in for a treat because they make home-made croutons that are both soft and crunchy at the same time! (And delicious too!) It's hard to explain but when you get your mouth around one of these home-made croutons, you'll know what I'm talking about. One generous friend at my table allowed me to try a bite of his pancakes and it was like eating a piece of heaven, lathered in butter and syrup... My Caesar salad had plenty of fresh romaine lettuce and came with the dressing on the side so I could control the amount. Another friend had a Monte Cristo and was in euphoria by the time he finished, and another ordered a house salad which was, honestly, the most outlanding house salad I've ever seen come from a diner. Pretty average diner fare. The Llanerch was pretty much everything you think of when you think of a diner. It struck me as an older diner, with that old-school feel of an establishment that has been there for many, many years. It was a little dirty, the booths were a little on the small side, but generally it was a totally fine diner. My breakfast for dinner came out lickety split exactly the way I ordered it. The food was good, the prices were average. I will say the desserts at this diner really live up to what you'd expect. Big giant slices of cake and cheesecake and pie. Definitely save room if you are able. Service was good. No complaints really, but also nothing that stood out or impressed me tremendously. Very solid. I always get breakfast at a diner, so I can't speak much to anything other than that, but I have been going to "the Big L" for years. I have eaten there at 4 am after a long night out, at 7 am to kickoff a productive Saturday and everywhere in between. Their omelets are really good. The ingredients are incorporated, not like the egg taco you get at most places (HATE when they just plop all the ingredients in the middle, they all fall out). Home fries are good, but you gotta get them well-done. Really good coffee too, Seattle's Best I believe. It's a diner, so nothing you have to go there for in particular. But it's clean and the food is consistent. That's all I need in a diner. read more

I've heard about how awesome this diner is from friends so when my boyfriend came to visit me I thought that this place would be the perfect spot for an early breakfast. I didn't know that they had a movie filmed here so when we walked in the manager (I think he was the manager) sat us where Bradly Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence sat! Anyways! He got the western omelet and I got two eggs over easy with turkey sausage. It was pretty good! The waitress was super nice and joked around with us when she forgot our coffee.
