This was a sacred place to the indigenous peoples who lived here originally. There was a small bowl…read morethat the spring was coming up into. The Creeks run through in between the houses in the overpacked neighborhood around the sacred area. The spring has now been piped so deep underground that there's no water in the bowl. There is and was a nice creek that had been rehabilitated and animals reintroduced native to the area as far as frogs and other things like salamanders and bird habitats Etc. Then the homeless started moving in and lots of drug use. I'm told you can't even go there now that you're literally walking through somebody's campsite if you go on to the trails. This park has a huge place in my heart but can no longer go to it because of the fact that you're walking through some of these living room instead of a park. There was a lot of fecal fecal matter / human. Needles and the expected unhygienic things of community not being cared for. It was sad enough for the spring dried up. Well it didn't really dry up it was piped because of the houses in the area. It makes me sick that we would go and take a beautiful piece of land that was so sacred the original European families like the Denny's the borans and others used to Camp there. It was literally wild for them. Now it's the wrong kind of wild. It's bad enough we took this land away from people now we're letting it be a garbage dump and that water goes into Lake Washington and then our ocean so it needs to be cared for I'd rather have people on this side of the freeway than in the Parks polluting the water. So sad. I wanted to take a friend there and then I thought what am I thinking this is a dumb.

The park offers a beautiful view of Magnolia, Ballard, and the Fisherman's terminal. It's a wide open space, perfect for star gazing. The art at the park includes a sun dial, cement orbs, and the entrance is paved with a design of moon phases. We found wild dill, and rose hips in the park.

In the evenings I have found that this parking lot can fill up quickly. The main entrance is located to the south of Brown Owl Bridge. There are trails to walk and benches where you can sit and rest. The trails are well maintained and wash-out and overgrowing of the trails has not been a problem in my experience. At the top of the trail system is a meadow called Krebs Meadow. The meadow has a grassy field, a woodchip floored playground with a few miscellaneous play/exercise pieces. At this part of the park there are also picnic tables and a trash can. A nice place to sit and catch one's breath, do some exploring, and/or have a picnic in the woods. I enjoy coming here both with my mom and on my own for a walk in the woods to clear my head and feel immersed in nature.

The whole trail smells like sewage because the entire trail is actually a paved sewer line with sewage warning flags in the bushes with run off in the ditches and what looks and smells like treated sewage ponds, you can literally see toilet paper in the ditches on the path along with brown slurry. I've never seen such a gross area to walk in Washington it's a construct of ritzy filth with nice trees and no animals.

Commodore Park is an unassuming little park on a hill on the south side of the Ballard Hiram Locks…read more In and of itself, it has next-to-nothing, park wise, and I normally would not have written a review for it. But I found a worthy reason to write. The parking is free here! The chances of a visitor finding this review is pretty low, but if any locals are following me and goes to the locks for themselves or out of town visitors. Well, save yourselves a few bucks by mapping to here instead. If you look at Google map, this park is the southwest edge of the locks. Near the street side (highest elevation), it has a fantastic view of the locks itself. There's a small parking lot, and there is street parking. The area is residential, so the parking is free. Unlike the official parking lot on the north side, that's paid parking. There is a short trial that will take you down to the Fish Ladder and the Ballard (Hiram M. Chittenden) Locks. A part of the trails is pretty and shaded with trees. With the breeze from the water, this walk is much welcomed on a sunny day. Be sure to cross to the north side for the visitor center of the Locks and the rose garden.

Woodway Reserve provides access during daylight hours to some of the wooded beauty of Woodway up…read moreclose. Giant trees tower overhear and lay on the ground decaying, forming homes for various plants and animals. The full reserve is spread out across an upper reserve and a central reserve. The upper reserve is easily accessible from the small parking area on Timber Lane. The central reserve also has a gate entrance on Timber Lane that I found to be held open by a chain when my mom and I visited earlier this month. Both reserves have additional entrances/exits that come out in different places. Fun to explore and see where one comes out. On one of our visits earlier this month we heard two different owls calling to each other while we were exploring. We also heard the call of, but did not find, the Douglas' Squirrel. Both reserves provide quiet serene places to walk and clear one's mind. A small pavilion in the central reserve provides a secluded place to sit and read a book, journal, or meditate. Paths are well maintained and the park upkeep as a whole is well done. An entirely beautiful park to explore.

A playground with expansive play structure (in wood and plastic) for older and/or more adventurous kiddos, as well as a smaller one for the smaller ones in your party. The park also offers a small sandpit under the cover of a shelter. All of this AND a wading pool (open Sunday's and Monday's from noon until 7:00 thought the summer 2019)! It's truly a little known gem of a park and one we will be sure to return to!
