I first discovered the LL Bean Catalogues many years ago. That was the only way that I had access to their clothing and shoes when I was a college student ! It wasn't until I traveled to the East Coast that I was actually able to visit an LL Bean store for myself. The first one that I visited was at an outlet in Virginia. This time, we stopped in New Jersey in what looks like a newer location. LL Bean is located in an outdoor shopping center in New Jersey, not too far from the NY border. Initially, I thought that this was an outlet location, due to the layout of the properties. They had a lot of popular stores that you don't see at shopping malls. So, I was surprised that it so many stores that are a bit more pricey in an outlet format. LL Bean is an outdoor enthusiasts' ideal location to find gear that would be beneficial to their excursions. They carry clothing for all seasons as well as jackets that are ideal for subzero temperatures. Also, their signature Bean Boots are available in all sizes and at a discounted price. They had a lot of Bean Boots aka duck boots on the rack in adult sizes, so it was nice to get a good pair of boots at a reasonable price. I feel like LL Bean has more clothing, gear, and accessories in their stores. Whereas you'd find larger items online. They do carry bike racks, hunting supplies, snowshoes, and kayaks, but they don't have as much in store. Luckily, you can place an order through the store and they'll ship everything directly to your home. One thing that I really love about LL Bean is the educator/student discount. You can get it multiple times throughout the year and they'll provide you with a code that you can use in store or online. I had to input my school's information and a copy of my teacher's ID. They sent the code straight to my email and the discount was applied when I checked out. Also, you could just show them your school ID and they'll just give you the discount right there. Each location is different, but they're usually pretty laid back and always willing to help you out. I love everything about LL Bean. This is the store that has been near and dear to my heart since I discovered them years ago. We hope to visit their flagship store in Freeport, Maine in the future. read more

I have been going to LL Bean for years. Their return policies are not as generous as they used to be but can't blame them as the world has skanks that would return stuff they bought 10 years ago and wore for a full refund, or even buy crap at the flea market and try to return it to LL Bean. It was a change that had to evolve. i have a pet peeve visiting the Marlton store and considering going to Lands end instead, though. the last few times I was in the store the salesperson followed me everywhere and wouldn't leave me alone. I felt as though I was being stalked. Even followed me in the dressing room to ask if I wanted another size. it took me all the willpower I had not scream at her to PLEASE go away-don't call me I'll call you. Prices are high and they don't mark down like department stores but the clothing is good quality and timeless. they still market the ultra warm coat with cell phone pockets to fit your 2002 flip phone. and people still buy them! read more

LL Bean has amazing customer service! I went to return a pair of duck boots without a receipt. Did they give me a problem? Nope they were happy to help. The sales person in the shoe department was super helpful and nice. She spent some time with me getting me a pair of boots that fit. She had good suggestions. I was able to get a pair of boots that didn't bother my many foot issues lol The cashier made the return/exchange easy peasy The store is big but merch is kept neat. We first visited LL Bean on a 1970's trip to Freeport. The quality of their products and the strong customer service orientation of their staff has made us loyal customers for decades. Our niece lives nearby this NJ outpost and we have been going there to shop ever since. The spirit and culture of the mother store is present here. The staff have a "let me help you" excitement. The product quality too has made the trip south in perfect shape. If you're a camper, biker, hiker, or just someone who needs comfortable, quality gear for time outside, you will be well served shopping here. They hold seminars on outdoor activities and the people working in each department can answer specific questions on the products they sell. Yes, prices can seem high compared to some internet sources, but quality and service tips the scales for me. There's a special place for L.L. Bean in my heart. When I was out in California I did most of my shopping online, such as buying my knee length fleece lined rain coat. As soon as I moved back I stopped in to pick up a winter coat and got two- an Ultralight 850 Down jacket and a Classic Lambswool Duffel coat. The wool coat has a hood and is perfect for the cold night when getting dressed up for a night on the town. Just recently stopped in to pick up a lunch bag, perfect for work and day hiking. They also have the best magnets up front near the registers. I like the days when they have demos and displays in the middle of the stores; where else can you walk in and there's an owl just hanging out. read more

[Quality] Even though some of the production has migrated overseas, they still make quality products. They still produce some Made in USA items. Many of the products are backed by guarantee. The famous Bean Boots (hand-sewn in Maine) do live up to the hype. There lambswool sweaters are well constructed (similar to what you find in Scotland, Ireland, England, etc.) I like the Ragg Wool socks. The Katahdin Iron Works Boots are real nice, I just wished you offered them with a less bulbous toe box. [Fit] Previously, the clothes they offered were way too baggy/blousy (seriously, like Orangutan size). However, they are starting to offer some more tailored/slim-fit options. I really like LL's 'Signature' line...I have a wool chore coat that fit me like a glove (I didn't have to bring it to the tailor). [Pricing] Good price-to-quality ratio. However, they don't often offer sales above 10%-20%. I know the Bean boots are having a renaissance with the young crowd and profit has been good...just throw me (a repeat customer) a bone once in a while. [Style] LL has stuck to the basics & hasn't succumbed to fast fashion. They are my go-to for outdoorish' clothing. Again, I am seeing some nice items from the 'Signature' line, I hope they continue with this line. (cubicle farm office appropriate/more stylish). [Customer Service] The in-store and on-line associates are excellent! They are helpful but not intrusive. They are very knowledgeable about the products they sell. The return policies are fantastic. [Location/Inventory] This Marlton location is a stand-a-lone store located in an open air Promenade, it is nice. Though, it seems the King of Prussia store has a larger inventory as far as clothing. I don't live anywhere near an LL Bean store, so coming in was a good excuse to actually try clothes and shoes on. Don't you just hate when you order stuff online and they just don't fit right? The store is well mapped out, sales staff were friendly, and there was lots to peruse. I just didn't see anything I wanted to buy this time around. The return/exchange policy here under the lifetime guarantee is awesome. I bought a pair of snow boots 3-4 years ago and they were probably only worn a dozen times. Last winter they split at the seams, so I took them back for an exchange under the warranty as it was definitely not a wear and tear issue. The problem? After standing in line twice (the first to get credit and exchange info and the second to do the actual exchange), the girl behind the counter had no real idea how to do the transaction. She had to have two different people help her look me up (I wasn't in their system) and then actually do the exchange. To do this she needed my drivers license and she also asked for my email address and phone number. While I recognize it was partially my fault for leaving without my license, the customer service rep did not even think to hand it back to me. And while I am glad it ended up in a safe, what REALLY irritates me is that no one at the store tried to contact me to say they had it. They had just taken ALL of my contact information, but no one bothered to look me back up and let me know it was there? You just threw it in the safe without a second thought? I know it was a busy holiday weekend but that's terrible customer service and an incredibly inconsiderate way to handle someone's personal documents when you failed to return them at the time of transaction to start with. read more

I bought a coat that was way too bulky for me, and was able to return it with my receipt with no problem over a month later. I ended up spending the money on another coat that better fit me. The clothing I am not too find of style-wise, but that's just my personal taste. The staff is just so incredibly pleasant. They hire super-quality people which makes all the difference. I love shopping through the LL Bean catalog and make it a point to stop by this retail store when I have the chance. This store is large and well-kept. It has a good selection of LL Bean merchandise and is well-organized. I also like some of the small touches, like the touch-screens where you can access the LL Bean website and the mot recent catalogs (this has come in handly several times when I have seen an item in the catalog and come in to check it out in person). I also have to say that I really enjoy the large selection of dog items! However, I don't find the staff to be particularly friendly or helpful. On our most recent visit, we were in the store for half an hour. It was not very busy. I probably tried on four different coats. And not once did any employee ask if they could help us. I wonder which came first, Cabela's stores for LL Bean stores? Plenty of similarities. Anyhow, to find a walk-in catalog was a real treat, however, be prepared to be average in every respect! You are out of luck if you are: Too tall; Too short; Too fat; Too skinny; Have big bones (feet and hands); Have little bones (feet and hands); If you suffer from any two of the above, you would feel a bit cheated. Ive ordered things from the catalog before but this was my first time visiting a store location. I was so impressed by the customer service. From the phone call beforehand to store employees providing genuinely friendly and helpful but not overbearing service it was a very pleasant experience. It even seemed like their customers were nicer than the normal jerseyites. They will start with your name, phone number, address and more - and announced to others who are checking out. And if you're not in their system, it's time to be "entered "...
