The cleanest silverware around... a tip of the hat. My fish was lightly breaded and not greasy nor was the cooking oil old and smelly. The chicken had breading that was too thick and was a little dry. Over all the meal was ok and i would come back to sample something else read more

Just what we expected, meat plus 3...we're finally understanding this southern concept. It's pretty simple. This was basically on par with a Cracker Barrel. Food was decent, not fine cuisine by any means but for us on our road trip, it was easy in and out. I had the fried pork chop. A little thin but very tasty. Not 100% sure, but I suspect the mashed potatoes may have been powdered. Husband had fried catfish. It was ok. It got crazy busy right after we got there and the poor server had trouble keeping up with everyone's service. She was working very hard but she had so much to do. Iced tea was exceptional. Corn muffins before meal were also great. I would skip the rolls they offer. We would definitely come back if we needed a place to eat while traveling through. I have been a regular since they first opened. I must say that in the last few years some locations have been a disappointment. To clarify the food was lacking. Service was fine but different issues with the food. This location remains true to their roots. The food is great and so is the service. One time I mentioned that my wife had been in the hospital and had been approved for a normal diet. She asked for Lizard's Thicket. The takeout was amazing. Every condiment...it was done so well. I went to Lizard thicket last Monday with my Granddaughter. We decided to eat in for a change. She wanted macaroni and cheese which she loves from here. Well the smoked sausage was over cooked (obviously reheated), the macaroni was dry and no cheese, fried okra was cooked to a crisp, green beans were only thing worth eating. The roll is also dry and different bread. This is the third time i have been disappointed. I have loved this place since my kids were little. Really sad because I won't be returning! read more

This is a typical meat and 3 place with a good variety of meat and vegetables that are southern comfort food. I had pulled pork with coke slaw, tomatoes, okra and dinner rolls. My wife had cabbage, Lima beans, dressing, and baked apples. Everything was good. Several groups of older people eating there which is a good sign. The service was quick and friendly. Not rating it a 5 because it's a chain so it's not quite as good as family owned versions of meat and 3 but it's still solid. read more

Good experience overall. Our waitress was very nice and cordial. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and tasted warm and fresh. The vegetables were delicious and the meats were cooked perfectly! The only critiques I can offer are these: 1) when we first walked in, we noticed the waitstaff all sitting down at tables near the entrance chatting. Not the most encouraging sign on your first visit to a restaurant to see employees parked on their behinds in plain view. Just a thought 2) The booths are comfortable, but ours and several others had residual crumbs from previous diners. Disappointed to say the least. I enjoy Lizards Thicket, but any chain that leaves our food your order and charges you for it is completely unacceptable. The fried pork chops was good, but it was pit on top of the mashed potatoes and gravy, so the gravy made a mess in the plate. The macaroon and cheese was good. Just what we were looking for!!! After all morning on the road and a couple of hours in a doctor's office we were looking for comfort food... WE FOUND IT!!! I am sure a lot of the food here is from frozen or a can but I had the squash casserole which had to be homemade. Very delicious. I wasn't as impressed with the mac and cheese which was dry and bland but others rave about it so maybe its just me. The main plus about the place was the friendly waitress. No problems here. When you have to call the location from the drive thru to actually tell them that there are four cars in the drive thru, that might be a bad sign. But I ordered anyway, I was stuck there. Once I got the food, it went almost Immediately in the trash. It is unfortunate that they have a sign that says seat yourself because when we did we waited and watched as people who entered the restaurant after us were greeted and the waitress began to take their orders. She actually welcomed in two sets of people and brought them menus and silverware while we waited. When she began to take their orders, still without greeting us, we told the manager. We pointed out that we had been waiting and there first and had not even been greeted and the manager explained that it was because we didn't sit in the waitresses section. Why would it be required for us to sit in her section to be acknowledged? Moreover, why would there be a sign that says please seat yourself if she only will come to tables in her section. BLT ordered to go...... It's a really bad sign when a restaurant can't get a basic BLT right. My husband ordered a BLT to go to bring home because I was working. They left the "L" and the "T"! All I got was bacon on bread (overcooked bacon) and a souffle cup full of dill pickle chips. Who in the heck eats a bacon sandwich? So I had to go into my kitchen and finish THEIR work. My daughter's mother in law brought our granddaughter and I here last time I visited them all in West Columbia. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food good. Lots of good choices for Southern sides/vegetables, including mac 'n cheese, which yes, IS a vegetable in the South. :-) Our toddler granddaughter loved all of the vegetable sides, most especially the fried okra and squash casserole. It was all pretty darn good, as were the black eyed peas and greens. However, do not order or eat the mashed potatoes and gravy. They taste like the instant potatoes with canned gravy. Bad stuff. Other than that, we enjoyed our experience, where waited on and served quickly. I do hope to go back again when I visit SC next month. It's on our list of "things to do"... Always have a good experience at this Lizard's. I love their friend chicken because it is always juicy and the parts are big. My kids get pancakes all the time, and my husband gets the salad. ALWAYS. I like that the atmosphere is homey and not too loud, even if the customers are talking/catching up. The booths could be a bit bigger though. My girls (thin 6 y/o and average-built 2 y/o) sit beside me and we literally rub elbows. read more

One of the worst meals I have ever paid for. It took quite a while to get our food and they were not that busy. My chicken livers were way over cooked. The collards were undercooked and bland. I like Lizard's Thicket, but this location made me sad. I had taken my kids to the Riverbanks Zoo, and we had been there all day and were very hungry. We went inside, and within 10 minutes, nobody had even said "hello." It's not like the place was busy -- it was around 2 PM and there were a few people seated, but the waitresses were chatting behind the counter. We were starving, so we ditched and went somewhere else. On our way to the car, a waitress stuck her head out and said, "Y'all change your mind?" She was quick to move when she saw us leaving, but not so much when we were actually there and ready to pay for a meal. read more

The food at the 378 location continues to be disappointing. The price of the beef stew went up, which wouldn't be so bad if the stew was better. Been enjoying LT restaurants for over 25yrs. The menu is diverse -- beef, chicken, fish, veggies, breads, salads, soups, desserts -- there is something for everyone. The fried chicken, fried flounder, collards, mac & cheese are consistently good. The corn muffins can vary in size/color but taste good always. The chicken salad makes a nice meal. The portions are reasonable and I'm so glad they don't over-salt their food as so many other restaurants do. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area and I love that I can expect the same family-friendly service at every location. read more

First and last visit! I ordered the "famous" salad with chicken. It was supposed to come with a baked chicken breast. What I got was some chunks of cold chicken breast which was slightly pink and part of a wing which was also cold and slightly pink. The lettuce was just plain old iceberg lettuce some of which was brown, there were however two cherry tomatoes. My husband ordered the turkey and dressing, fried okra and squash casserole. Oh my, the turkey looked like lunch meat, the okra was dripping grease and the squash casserole was yellow squash not quite cooked enough mixed with some bread crumbs and cheese. It also had a strong iodine taste, the dressing was mushy. The rolls that came with his meal were also cold and right out of a package. Usually when a restaurant touts that is "real" country cooking you expect that its homemade, nope I doubt anything there is homemade unless you count opening a can, bag or box as homemade. read more

I decided to order fish n grits from Lizard Thicket on Sunset Blvd in West Columbia. Pulled their menu up from my IPAD. Menu said $5.00 for fish n grits specialty. It included catfish or flounder and eggs hash brown or grits and toast or biscuits for $5.00. I called place the order I was given a total of 9 dollars and some change. I also added a small cup of coffee for $1.10. I called back to question the total. I was told the catfish was an extra dollar ;which still only $7.00 and change. When I arrive at the drive thru I told the lady I order from their menu on line and tried to show her on my IPad their price. She refused to look at it. She said she didnt know nothing about no menu price on line. She went got their menu from inside and said that was what they go by. She said everything was computerized. I tried to get her to look at the menu on the IPAD again she refused. She went got the manager. He said he wasn't aware of a menu on line and if it was that it was probably old. I told him that wasn't my fault and that was what I called and order from. He showed me their in house menu and said that was what they went by. Rather than have it out with them I jus drove of. I was so disappointed by their lack of business savy. If they had honor the menu on line I definetly would have gone again and wouldn't have mine paying the in house price.
