Honestly, this is the store that got me more into boutique shopping- which is something I never really did before. The place is organized well and somehow they manage to fit everything comfortably in their rather small space. It's definitely cute and I like the vibe shopping here. Then she immediately told me I had to leave my tote bag by the side of the desk (out in the open.) I didn't want to do that because A I had just bought a new jacket across the street, which was in the tote bag. And B there's no way I am leaving my tote bag out in the open like that for someone to steal it the minute the sales person leaves the desk. Also treating your customers, the minute they walk in the door, like a criminal simply because they are holding a tote bag, which hello most people do today instead of using in store paper bags is not good customer service to say the least. And then telling them to just leave the tote bag sitting in the open unsecured is crazy. Would they pay for my new coat if someone stole it? I get that shoplifting is a problem but treating a potential customer with this broad brush approach isn't the solution. I've gone to many shops and stores and never encountered this policy. I may have bought something in there but I was so turned off by this rude and condescending approach that I just left. MUJI across the street never once asked me to leave my tote bag because they were afraid I might steal something. They were all super friendly and nice and even let me bring my tote bag in the dressing room after counting the number of items I was bringing in.

I finally decided to go inside because I heard they'd be carrying a line that I like, and I come to find out that they carry several! I bought two simply GORGEOUS scarves that were actually priced lower than what I initially expected. A lot of the reviews of this place just do not do it justice! Let's clear it up. Is this boutique "too expensive"? NO! It's only too expensive if you're not familiar with the brands that it carries. These pieces are not overpriced or marked high beyond other retailers. Additionally, I saw at least one brand that's very hard to find in the US. The simple fact that I would be able to try on pieces from that brand without having to buy them up front and pay for shipping from Europe is a huge positive. Is the store "too cramped"? Hardly. It's a small store, but they have a very clean, beautiful layout. I was in there with two staff, a delivery guy, and probably four other shoppers, and I still had plenty room to be off in my own little world. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the store. Are the employees "rude and unfriendly"? Not at all!! My goodness. Quite the opposite. One woman behind the desk greeted me immediately and asked if I needed anything, another smiled at me, and I made conversation later (twice) and was met with receptive faces and eager replies both times. One of the women was less talkative, but she was busy and I wasn't talking with her directly. She did smile and look up and even laugh, though. She was far from rude. Basically, this is a lovely store, and you've probably got to be pretty rude yourself to think that the employees are rude. Additionally, if you're out of touch with the brands or the prices of pieces like what's carried at Mint Julep, you might think it's overpriced, but it's really not.

Actually, I think that may be the reason I have such negative feelings about this store. Then there's pricing. Ha. Ridiculous. Really. Ridiculous. Even their accessories are way overpriced for what they are. Also, there's a cute bead shop down the way that I frequent - some of the jewelry here (all handmade, I suppose) was made with components they sell at the bead shop a few doors away. Yeah, and marked up like 80 bazillion percent. Tacky. Also, the clothes are adorable. But I have tits. Their stuff is cut to fit 12 year olds or rich Brookline women with bodies like 12 year olds. And yes, most of the girls who I see shopping there are the college-aged, not quite done with puberty, daddy pays for everything crowd. I'm a Lulu girl by default, but with all the athleisure addicts out there it's so hard not to wear the same bra/crop/mat strap/RBF as everyone else in your spin/barre/acro/macro classes. Crane & Lion offers those coveted accent pieces you get major side-eye for, and most importantly their pants aren't see-through -- not even their light colored ones. Other than the shoe section, I have never seen so many shirts that represents Salem in the store and barely anything else. I would come in here and find a ton of horror. Walking in, the place was very crowded with a wide variety of styles and a ton of heads with wigs.  Honestly, the shop did not seem like the place for me.  I figured I'd get a bra and then go shopping for clothes. I was very surprised to find everything I needed and some items I would not have considered, but she asked me to try on for her!  The shop owner, Barbara, is really good at what she does! I am not a fashion-focused person, I like sticking to timeless staples with a funky twist and comfortable shoes. But, not only did I get a good fitting and a bra I love, but a bonus stylist who worked with me, showing me a variety of options, really listened to what I did or didn't like about each and  helped me craft the perfect outfit for the wedding and a great bra!  I think everyone should go, alone bc it is tight in there, and just see what she has for you, it's fun.
