We thought we had a nice vacation until it was security deposit time... The place itself was nice, in that it is newly built. There isn't really a dining room table or space to gather around a table for games like cards, etc.. The walk to the beach was pretty short and the Big Store is nearby.
I have been renting beach houses for years in this area and I don't understand why the owners of this place rent it out if they expect it to remain absolutely immaculate forever. While our little ones slept, we scrubbed that place from head to toe. We scrapped off the grit that the previous tenants left on the stove top. We wiped out the microwave & cleaned the inside oven glass (apparently missed an oven wall, or something). We did more cleaning here that I have even seen in my 20+ years of visiting Galveston/Boliver beach houses. The owner dinged us for oil stains in the driveway, saying he paid to pressure wash it. It was new driveway, but they also demand that you not park in the grass, due to septic. I think pressure washing should be a yearly maintenance expense for a property owner, not every time you have guests... They should expect hundreds of cars, over time, if they continue to try and rent this place, so billing for power washing every time is ridiculous. Maybe they should mention to bring your own power washer for cleanup... Also, some oil had been disposed of in the yard instead of down their drain (most people would have just poured it down the drain and none would have been the wiser... We thought that we would take it outside where it would not mess up their drains, but he charged us to have new grass installed where the oil had caused it to change color! Yeah, at the beach....new grass fees. unreal. For them to keep $300+ of our deposit, given the 3 hours we spent cleaning this house, I say to you all, BEWARE! They really should just take a cleaning fee and let us leave the house messy for them to clean up. There is nothing more frustrating than working your tails off to meet someone's expectations, only to learn that they were unattainable in the first place. We will never come back here again and will pass this on to all of our Texas friends and family that make regular trips to this area. There are plenty of other great beach houses that can accommodate reasonable families, and I suggest you look for those. What a sad ending to an otherwise fun trip. read more
