(We may've spent as much on wine as steaks that night.What?!) Location and experience are everything, right? To start, we stayed in the Bird of Paradise room. Listed on AirBnb as a private king room in an historic mansion at an amazing mid-week price we were expecting a new experience (this was our first shared-home stay on AirBnb). What we rolled up to was even more impressive than we expected. Like, roll up, assess parking and grab your phone to take pictures impressive. Brian's home is truly a gem. Built in 1905, after the great storm of 1900, the stucco-exterior and gleaming wood interior seem to be part Craftsman, part Victorian. The massive stained glass windows are absolutely amazing. Every time we came in and out we were stopped in our tracks by something new to look at. (Oooh, look at the ceiling! Ooooohhhhh, wait, look at THAT ceiling!)(Side note, dammit, I didn't get a picture of the cherubs playfully galavanting across the parlor ceiling!) But enough about that, you get it, it's fab. Our room was comfortable, clean, and comfortably appointed, but as Brian has only somewhat recently bought the house, I expect some further period touches to be added here and there in the guest rooms (of which there appeared to be possibly six). Our bed was gorgeous and fit the room so nicely, as did the sofa, which perfectly matched the pretty fireplace tile. But let me tell you a secret. Though the bathroom for the Bird of Paradise room is private, yours and yours alone, some might be put off by the fact that it's just around a corner from the room. Don't be!!! That bathroom (with what appears to be the original clawfoot tub) is AMAZING. The bathroom itself is Victorian-era-small, but what it lacks in space that shower and bath make up for. That is literally going to be the best shower you've EVER had in your life. Really. Then you'll find yourself soaking in (sweetly supplied) bath-salt-scented water before you know it, because the tub is sheer heaven. I am waxing ecstatic for a reason, y'all. Apparently some of the rooms have Jacuzzi tubs. Color me "meh" about that, you want that clawfoot! So as it's not technically a B&B, but an AirBnB, there were no breakfast options. We had use of a butlers' pantry to store adult beverages & leftovers and such in the fridge (and leftover adult beverages, let's say I am not a fan of the Shiner berry-beer-thing we tried), though sadly we looked for a Keurig when we noticed a box of coffee pods in a cabinet, but found no Keurig or other coffee pot for guest use. Pooooor us, having to hit the Strand for coffee & breakfast. I lived through it. ;) I hope Brian and his family ALL the best in this endeavor, it was such a treat to stay in this stately old lady's warm-wood embrace. (Brian, my daughter is living just behind you and down a few homes on Market, would you like a house manager who LOVES people, loved your home, and loves to bake blueberry muffins? After dodging the shrubbery there are 14 stairs to the front door and 22 stairs to the second floor 36 stairs overall and every time you go somewhere you have to navigate 72 exhausting stairs. there is a dumb waiter not offered to the public. the back patios are filled with clutter, trash, and in need of maintenance plus the furniture is broken down. There is 1 full bath with a 1/2 bath for everyone and I took issue with them not replacing the towels and cleaning the shared bath tube. A claw tub with a round shower curtain that sticks to you, the 3 nights we were there. Christmas is the decor year around..a dusty tree filled with lights and ornaments. THE ELECTRIC IS WEAK AND SOMETIMES it charges and other times it doesn't so you have to move around to get power and a lot of times it shuts off. the neighbor you can hear as if they were in the room. when talking to the care takers they say "it is what it is". This is a beautiful old home with absolutely no comforts. No coffee, but a shared coffee maker. Shared kitchen, and If you are an older adult, I would skip this rental.

The beach is literally minutes away all of the house furnishings were brand new and everything was very clean. We could not find one bit of dirt in the house, bathrooms were very clean and brand new as well. The beds were comfy and the ceiling fans were an added bonus. This house will sleep easily two families vacationing together with plenty of room to spare. They do not have a golf cart to use, but one can be rented for beach excursions which the kids absolutely loved one of the highlights of the trip. We lived at this property for ten years. It has been the worst ten years of our lives. Health issue…read moreafter health issue, headaches, daily nose bleeds, dizziness, unbearable fatigue, sinus infections to name a few. Physical, mental and emotional stress. We did not have the money to move and did our absolute best to just exist. Issues reported were belittled and neglected. From massive water leaks leading to an entire closet molding and property loss to mushrooms growing from our ceiling, the attic space above us being riddled with mold, sagging ceilings that had to be taped up, sagging floors, gas leaks that we were told were "just perfume smells", improperly wired electric that led to outrageous bills and fried appliances, an a/c that didn't work, our bedroom vent didn't work and would get up to 90 degrees and 85+ humidity and we were told by the maintenance lead "you just need a fan", no hot water for months that we and other units were just expected to deal with without explanation, the list goes on and on. We have ten years of pictures, videos, a statement from the Texas Gas Service technician that showed up to address two different gas leaks that were ignored by maintenance. One was due to maintenance using an outlawed o-ring on the ovens gas line. We have emails and text messages and screenshots of maintenance request showing the years of issues reported and neglected over and over including video of the maintenance lead belittling us and lying to the gas tech when the leaks were reported. Telling us "well if you report it and they shut the gas off everyone will be cold, do you want that". My son had to go to urgent care because of the leak from the drier next door that was reported and ignored. We have video and audio of Christopher Teachworth-the owner, committing insurance fraud, claiming damages to insurance adjustors after Beryl that were pre-existing, we have pictures and video showing the damages before Beryl. We have video footage of maintenance being sent in to apartments and covering the wall to wall mold in apartments before the adjustors showed up and did a walk through. We have video of Morgan, a rental agent for the Seasons speaking to someone about the things she was asked to cover up before adjustors walked the property. We have emails and texts from management telling us we were not allowed to speak with adjustors walking the property. We just wanted to leave and forget the last ten years happened. We paid rent on time, were quiet and respectful and deserved to use it as solid rental history but they wanted to be petty because we moved out so we will be joining a suit against them with two other units for damages. The next day she emails me about how there's no cussing around here because this is a family park. And no smoking in the rv. And no downloading movies illegally because she got a message from the internet provider saying someone was streaming or downloading movies illegally. ???? Ok so a couple hours after the emails, then she has 2 guys knock on the rv I was renting saying they needed to come in asap and log out of netflix and other streaming accounts- which was fine because I had nothing to hide Few days later she yells at my husband that he needs to ride his bike a certain way to follow the traffic of the park. We have no problems following rules and we remained respectful no matter how rude and snarky she was. One day my daughter mistakenly called 911 on my phone and I called back and said hey I apologize my daughter was messing around on the phone. But officers showed up just to check and when I opened the door to apologize and explain, she was right outside with her hand on her hips like she was waiting for something crazy to pop off. She then emailed me and said if cops were called again, that she would be kicking us out. Couple days later, My husband had a bad accident on an e-bike, and was bleeding from his face and all over his body. while walking back to the rv he was telling me what happened on the phone before he came in. She saw him outside in this condition and insisted of having any compassion or concern, proceeded to email me AGAIN telling me that he was cursing and shouting about how he got hit by a car and needs to watch his mouth! about 3 weeks in she told me that the owners did not want to continue renting the rv. That I needed to find a place to live within the next week or 2. Mind you, me and this lady talked for weeks before I moved in. She knew my situation, we have 3 babies, had an accident causing us to lose our vehicle, jobs and our house. We were living in hotels before I found this rv park. She had so much compassion and was super friendly over the phone before seeing us in person. She told me that we could rent an rv for a few months and even promised me that an even bigger rv was coming and we could move into it when it comes so we could be more comfortable. What a joke! Thank God we found a house and got our jobs back that same week!!! I've seen the other poor reviews, how quick she responds. Me knowing how rude and prejudiced she is, I can almost hear the sarcasm in her responses. Sadly she seemed very sweet and maybe she would've been if we didn't look "out of place" maybe? I'm not oblivious. I know I have tattoos from my face to my feet. And my husband is African American with dreads. We might've not fit in. But we stayed to ourselves and we did not bother anyone. Someone there told me that she's notorious for her emails and they believe that she is racist because they overheard her at the hot tub making racist jokes with her friends. But I won't expose their identity as they are still currently a resident. Also just to add, the men staff were not rude at all. They almost seemed apologetic for her ugly nasty behavior. My husband being a black man knew the prejudiced vibe right from day one. She did nothing but confirm this the entire stay.

I recommend this hotel if you are looking for a convenient, reasonably priced place to stay that is quaint, excellent personalized service, great staff, and close to everything.
