Jay's Farm Stand - Great prices on fresh fruits & vegetables

Absolute best place to buy your local produce, salsa, organic dairy, beef sticks, meat and much…read moremore! I go here every single week to buy my produce. Their prices are reasonable and stable! Their produce is so fresh and as local as they can get it! Oh and they have fresh big bags of basil and mint for like $2! Which is great because I just keep killing the ones I grow somehow. I've never gotten sick from eating their produce, as I do from some of the store's produce, like Safeway's apples. One thing to remember - bring your own bag/box. Sometimes they have extra boxes. And the other thing is - if you're only pick up a couple of things for tonight's dinner, bring cash! You can't use your debit/credit card unless it's over $5, which my orders usually are! They also, usually, have some past-its-prime produce that's heavily discounted! These are great buys to put in smoothies or eat within a day or so. I once got a personal-sized watermelon for $0.50 from that area and it was fabulous! Right now they have eggplants and melons in this area. It changes all the time! This is a great place to go for some beef sticks, they have many different kinds. All locally made. Most just $1.75 and super tasty!!! The cream of their crop (in my opinion) is their housemade Pico de Gallo and Guacamole! You can thank me later for that tip!! Lots of times I go there and they are all sold out of these gems. They are so good though that I check back often.

The employee I was in contact with made me feel rushed and was not friendly in any way at all. I only had one question and she was pretty rude when she answered. She was also the cashier when I went to check out and was so rushed, and rude then as well. I'm so disappointed. I understand that people go through things in life, and hoping that she is OK.... However, when you work retail and customer service, you're one and only job is to help the customers and be friendly. I am hoping and praying this is the one and only time I experience this.

The deli staff are amazing every single time! The food is delicious every single time! A tad more expensive than the local Safeway--but I'll spring for it occasionally. Lake Fair weekend though--where do I start... they hire additional persons to monitor the parking lot. I get that, they want parking for their customers, not fair goers. Well, the older guy in the yellow vest.. eek! He's a chatty man. I parked in a shaded area while my oldest son ran into the store to get us some snacks and drinks while we waited for my other son to meet us (he had a temp job with Funtastic). He approached my car while I was waiting... made sure that I was not leaving my car to head over to the carnival--was sure to let me know the manager was on a war path and threatening to tow everyone... stayed to let me know his political stance on why downtown has so many 'bums'. Proceeded to let me know that the only way to change that it to change who we elect and pointed at the Capitol. About 15 minutes pass and my son had returned with our snacks and drinks, the man walks up again to check when we would be leaving... On the bright side--the ladies at the deli counter made me some fantastic fried mushrooms to snack on while I listened to this guy's second round of political garbage.

The service was okay. A few errors such as not meeting me at the section of the counter to hand off the food. For some reason, the lady laid it on the other side. The bread was really greasy from cheap grill oil. This made it a bit hard to eat, but i'm not throwing away a whole roast beef sandwich. An apple is served with the sandwich, but the sticker was still on it and survived them washing it, apparently. All in all, the customer service needs a bit more cheer, and the food needs a bit of help. Simply using a slightly better bread and a bit of butter for grilling will go a long way compared to the saturated diner grill oil. They have kombuchas here as im writing this, so im going to grab one to rinse the cooking oil from my mouth. 3 out of 5 at best. Update. Now 2 out of 5. Bathroom was locked and circled the whole store. Had to get a pass code from someone as they left it locked. Big nope all around. Not returning.

Olympia Food Co-op - The king of triple creamy goodness- the Brillat Savarin. Save one for me!

However, I feel that the Pacific Avenue location's crowdedness makes it a little more fun to discover all the little culinary surprises the store has hidden away. What this location has in favor of it was one little wedge of cheese that we've been looking for forever since we moved to Washington State- a wedge of Brillat Savarin. For me, there is no other brie. One time I was at the Cheese Board Collective in Berkeley to find a blue cheese from Asturias when I saw the Brillat Savarin and insisted my mom get it for a party. She asked why the big deal and I said that it's the closest thing a cheese can get to butter. The cheesemonger standing in front of us looked up from his cheese sorting, looked us with crazy eyes and whispered, "No. It IS butter." He then stopped what he was doing to spread out a runny dab for her on a cracker and my mom saw the light. We were so excited about finally finding this cheese when other people heard my sister singing its' praises and they wanted it. There was only one wedge left, so my sister gracefully let another man have it. I mean, how else do you spread the gospel and make converts until other people have had their own spiritual experience. So we'll be back again with the hope that they restock.

The sushi is far better than other grocery stores. I want a sandwich next time though lol. Was good to see one BIPOC person working there. She said there were only 2 in the whole store. Seriously, almost everyday I heard somebody just bashing their own job. Only one guy seems happy there. You'll notice him instantly because everybody else looks like they're in hell. I was even hired once long ago to be a customer service manager and they made me fried chicken boy. Always lacking what you need, prices through the roof, a weird layout where pretzels will be on one side of the store and chips will be on the other (same for many other similar products). I asked somebody once if they worked there because I needed help and the response was "what do you think?". She's now a manager. It's a store full of miserable old housewives who need something to do so they are now cashiers, and young to middle aged men who are scared of the world and think this job security. It's just another grocery store pretending to be down to earth but is full of assholes.

This location offers groceries but also pretty much everything else you could need. They had clothes, household items, and toiletries. They also had a nice deli and bakery area with flowers next to it and I believe I saw a pharmacy as well. I was able to get literally every single thing that I needed. It did take me awhile to get my bearings and figure out the layout and it was so much bigger inside than I thought it was going to be that it took me quite a while to get what I needed and get out of the store. The lines were pretty long as well and I think that's just because so many people come here and I get that. If you're not in a hurry, this is a great spot to grab what you need. I left my phone in the car so I don't have any photos of the inside but I did grab a sushi platter for me and my husband to eat that evening and it was yummy.
