Haggen is weird. I went in almost everyday and every employee was always bitching to a coworker about how much they hated it there. Seriously, almost everyday I heard somebody just bashing their own job. Only one guy seems happy there. You'll notice him instantly because everybody else looks like they're in hell. I was even hired once long ago to be a customer service manager and they made me fried chicken boy. Always lacking what you need, prices through the roof, a weird layout where pretzels will be on one side of the store and chips will be on the other (same for many other similar products). I asked somebody once if they worked there because I needed help and the response was "what do you think?". She's now a manager. It's a store full of miserable old housewives who need something to do so they are now cashiers, and young to middle aged men who are scared of the world and think this job security. Haggen is Safeway's higher-end sister. Better quality and more hard-to-find things, but at a slightly more premium price (Safeway's already not the most economical store). They always have maybe the best produce quality in the area, and often have the odd and/or seasonal produce items. The bakery is TOP NOTCH, and I'd put their baked goods up against any local bakery. They stock much harder to find items (rum-barrel aged maple syrup, high-end tinned fish, fresh pasta, so on) and have a lovely housewares department and a hot food counter with a good selection of more than just soggy Chinese and jojos. There is a dining area and a Starbucks, the floral department looks great, and I love their wine selection. Ample parking, friendly staff, and conveniently close to both 101 and lots of other shopping. read more

Lo and behold , sorry we don't do the real deal deli wieners any longer , apologetically from Bucher man , Boss Man he says no , go figure , but what do I know , I like one stop shopping , Got all the plastic wrapped ones in the non deli cooler across the store over there Butcher Man says ! I find they have the best supermarket meat in the county. Most all is regionally raised, and great quality. Many of the named sources will be recognized from dining in high end restaurants. Yes the prices at the counter are high, but what isn't today. I do check the ads weekly, and there are occasional great buys to be had. So far, I really like this pharmacy. A couple years ago, they cheerfully did the paperwork and gave both Mr. Crankypants & I our COVID boosters after their cross town competitor declined to honor our appointments for the vaccine. Yesterday, I needed to transfer 2 prescriptions including a change of insurance and change of doctor. Pharmacy tech took down all the new info cheerfully, asked how soon I needed them, and explained how to sign up for text alerts when it was ready...I've already been notified one of them is ready for pickup. This is a marked departure from the lack of service and bad attitude I've received at the three major chain pharmacies in town. They actually act like they want to retain your business. AND they are open 7 days a week (with short lunch break) unlike others who are cutting back on hours. read more

Have always liked Haggen, but today I was shocked at the meagerness if the deli available food. We tried some if their Asian, the rice and chow mein were passable, the Empress chicken awful and hard and chewy, the orange barely acceptable. Random to be checking into a grocery store but I want to highlight how wonderful the bakery, deli, and meat department out here. I'm not giving It 5 stars due to the pricing. It's a bit overpriced. While I know that comes with quality I still think it's a bit over priced in some areas. Think of your favorite hometown grocery store and then make It fancy. The peach pie, Caribbean jerk chicken knobs, broccoli salad and baked potato salad are my favorites. This is a magnificently well stocked grocery store. We stopped in for something to take to our hotel room and found a deli that was very well stocked. I ordered a custom sandwich with ham, salami, cheese, mayodijon spread and spinach on Rye Bread. It was superb. Did I mention that we were treated with the greatest of respect by the deli operators. A bit expensive for regular grocery items, however, the Haggen Bakery is the best in town. It has a huge and inexpensive selection of fresh baked breads, cookies, and cakes. I bought Haggens 8-piece fried chicken and I noticed right away that the breasts looked like they'd been stripped of some of their meat before being cooked - pretty much one whole side all the way to the wishbone. I wonder if the equity firm that owns the grocer re-sells the missing portions in their chicken fingers a $5 a pound. read more

This place has a much wider selection with many things other stores dont have. Just be expected to pay alot more I hoped there prices would go down now that they are owned by Safeway/Albertsons but they really haven't. They do sell the Norbest Turkeys which are the best. read more

Hypocrisy. This grocery store tries to appear good, but when a customer concern is raised, they are horrible. "Kit" reassured that my issue would be responded by managers but nobody ever called me to resolve the issue despite multiple attempts to reach someone -- a manager at the store; their main customer hotline; filling out customer concern form. I used to love this place, but I would not enter this store with a 10-ft pole. Bad customer service; uncaring personnel. A bunch of hypocrites. It's just as well that I don't go back -- this place is way overpriced so this way I will just wind up saving more money not setting foot in this hostile place. read more

I'm a fan. We shop here every year when we visit family in Oly. The store is clean and bright with an excellent selection of....everything. We bounce around the deli, bakery, Starbucks, etc. and have never been disappointed with a purchase here. Mom like to come on seniors day for an automatic discount at the register. If you go early or late you'll miss older shoppers who take their sweet time to chat in the middle of the aisle, park their cart in the middle of nowhere, and walk in slug mode in front of you. Avoid peak times. It'll take FOREVER dodging slowpokes who talk a lot. The employees aren't the friendliest. I've been ignored plenty of times here. From the bakery to the deli to employees avoiding eye contact passing by. Can't say I've ever dealt with an employee that left a good impression (except the meat department). The employees definitely prefer their older customers. Perhaps it's because they're the same age/generation. I would say the bakery and the cashiers have the worst attitude. I stood at the bakery for a cupcake. Simple right? Nope. The employee walked by without acknowledgement and kept packaging cookies. It was very bizarre. With the third walk by I left and got a cupcake elsewhere for my son. I've had other incidents where I've been ignored or "helped" with brash answers. I would think working at the bakery would be fun and would have the nicest workers. I was wrong! Cashiers are the most unwelcoming people ever. It's so odd how those with the worst attitude work with customers. The meat area is great. The meat department is why I step foot into this store. The butchers are always quick to help you, accommodating, and wait for it...FRIENDLY. They don't care if your old, young, rich, poor. They'll just help you! If all the employees had great attitudes like the butchers I would do all my grocery shopping here. It's the other employees that force me to do the rest of my shopping elsewhere. If you want high quality meat the way you want it I would come here. For other grocery needs, I would go elsewhere. The pharmacy used to be wonderful but it's gone downhill so much in the last year. Rude, incompetent techs and pharmacists. Twice my Dr has sent over Rxs and Haggen didn't have them in stock, BUT THEY DIDNT EVEN ORDER THEM until I called days later wondering what the holdup was. Overcharged a copay by$35 and refused to fix it, saying, "we'll remember it the next time". Usually when I or family and neighbors walk in no one offers to help or even makes eye contact. One time I was standing there for 17 minutes like a jerk while they ignored me. My daughter had major surgery a few weeks ago. The Dr called Haggen Pharmacy and said her meds were urgent and needed to be ready for pickup by X time. When I got there they couldn't even find the order for about ten minutes. When they finally found it in their computer they said it would be at least an hour, while across the top of all pages of the Rxs it said URGENT. Meanwhile, my daughter was bleeding and in pain in the car. read more

Not only is she completely uncommunicative she actually asked me once if I had just come from the bars because I was with two fellow coworkers. I should mention I'm a nurse and work nights. Everyone knows my guilty pleasure is grocery shopping. And the first time I walked into Haggen's I felt like I had died and gone to eternal shopping heaven. This. Place. Has. Everything. The selection is phenomenal in literally every way. The produce selection, the meat selection, the cheese, everything is multiplied tenfold. If you're looking for quality or a specialty ingredient, you'll find it here. At first thought, I imagined it being a bit more expensive than Safeway or Carr's but it was actually quite comparable! They offered quite a few more high end options as well as the old favorites of Safeway. Their hot bar is out of this world, and the sandwich selection is a deli all in its own. The prices for the size of sandwich is a steal! The salad bar has endless options and is twice as long as the one at Carr's. The amount of prepared meals is outstanding; the best part is they have great options if it's just one or two of you at home. When we reached the cheese carousel we were instantly overwhelmed, with excitement! Bruce was outstanding. He is an incredible asset to this location. His knowledge of the cheeses he presented was impressive. He knew all our favorites without even knowing us. The selections were impeccable. He gave us samples of all the kinds we were interested in and was very gracious. Definitely our new cheese guy. Overall, this place is definitely a treat. Everyone was super helpful. This place is open 24 hours and I've never seen any lines, which is a plus, and it's always quite clean (including the bathroom). Additionally, there's a large selection and they have some interesting specialty sodas you can't find many other places. However, the prices are a little steep compared to other places in the area. Toiletries are typically a dollar more than at Target or Safeway, some liquor can be around $3 more than at other places. Plus, the staff is sort of hit-or-miss. There are a few unfriendly cashiers, for instance. Overall, a decent place to shop. read more

Now I remember why I quit shopping here. When it was TOP foods, they prided themselves on lower prices, etc. Now? You have to be a millionaire to shop there! Prices on EXACTLY the same items/brand are cheaper elsewhere. I only stopped as it was convenient. WinCo was out of tamarind, at $5/lb. so I check. Yes, they have tamarind. For $11/lb and it all looked like GARBAGE! Cracked, dried out, just horrible. Even common brand sodas are more than at other stores! Sales prices on items are higher than you find at the regular price at about any other store. Then there's checkout. I only got a couple items out of convenience, but had to wait an awfully long time, only to have the woman in front of me want to return the bag of charcoal briquettes, just as the checker was about to check me through. A long, drawn-out process, I had to step out of the way so she could use her card, etc, etc. No one wearing masks, were standing practically up my arse. I finally just said, "Screw it!" and walked out. Never, ever, EVER again. read more
