I have been going to Jay's farm stand for many years and have always felt welcomed, and treated with very friendly employees. I was so disappointed today when I went in. The employee I was in contact with made me feel rushed and was not friendly in any way at all. I only had one question and she was pretty rude when she answered. She was also the cashier when I went to check out and was so rushed, and rude then as well. I'm so disappointed. I understand that people go through things in life, and hoping that she is OK.... However, when you work retail and customer service, you're one and only job is to help the customers and be friendly. Honestly, Jay's is a hit or miss kind of thing with me, but I still like shopping there. It's not the prettiest place. The people who work there aren't overly friendly, but they certainly aren't rude, and have no problem answering questions. They will sometimes have the music cranked up a bit loud, which can be distracting, but it's not a deal breaker for me. They usually have all my staple vegetables year round, and during the summer they have a lot of different, fresh fruit and other produce. I picked up some Lemon Drop honeydews a few weeks back that were off the hook, just perfectly ripe and sweet. They carry a small selection of cheeses and Johnson's sausages, eggs, milk, bread, various snack foods and some really good salsa. A lot of the non-produce stuff is locally sourced, which is a plus. Sometimes, though, they fall short. My last bad experience was with a 5-lb bag of potatoes for a $1, and let me tell you, don't buy 5 pounds of potatoes for a dollar. They were horribly mealy and could only be saved by mashing the daylights out of them, with a heavy application of butter, salt and heavy cream. Pro tip: stay away from the super cheap veggies and you should be just fine. read more

Jay's Farm stand is wonderful, but this review is specifically about the Salsa they sell. Their salsa, specifically the red salsa, not the pico de gallo or guacamole, is THE BEST RED SALSA I'VE EVER HAD, and that's actually saying something. I've been mildly obsessed with salsas for years, and I make some incredible guacamole (the secret is to add more salt than you think is reasonable). This place is horrible and has very poor customer service. The owner Lily was very rude. She did not want to bring out any other cabbage for me to purchase. I was going to spend $50 or $60 because I needed cabbage for my church and this lady told me she did not have time to go in the back and get cabbage for me that had the leaves on it. There wasn't anyone in the store because they had just opened probably 45-50 minutes before I got there. I will never and I do mean never go back to that overly priced raggedy ass farm stand again! Sorry to say this stand is off my list. I have shopped here because it's local and has some organic produce (not much, really), but I'm done. Tried to shop today and they had CPAC convention and Trump blaring from the indoor radio. It was offensive. When I left I told the staff person that if that was the kind of thing they were going to have playing I couldn't shop there anymore. She actually asked me why. I don't expect a shop or shopkeeper to share my views, but I DO expect a pleasant shopping experience. I love this place! Convenient, great hours, friendly people, and oh yah... their produce is cheap!! I love a good deal and I've come to appreciate farm stands as frequently having some of the freshest produce for reasonable prices. Forget Walmart, food4less or whatever other mass warehouse I've tried, I usually am consistently disappointed in the products and not that pleased with the prices. Jays farm stand has a lot of convenient parking on both sides of the store. Their produce is arranged outside under awnings and inside in nice cool areas. They have a great variety of local and nearby state crops. Fantastic selections of fruits, vegetables, and even nice big bags of select herbs for reasonable prices. They also have some other interesting nommies I've yet to try including locally sourced meat and dairy, dried fruits and nuts, and delicious looking fudges and toffees that tempt me each time. Everyone there has always been very friendly and helpful. They take credit card and I usually am able to escape with a bulging bag for under 10-15 bucks. If you are a local to Oly and your wallet gets cranky every time you leave your local grocery store give these guys a try! read more

Not much to say but great produce, big selection, and at reasonable prices. It is a weekly stop for our family. Fast and friendly service. Produce here is much cheaper than grocery stores in the area or other produce stands. I am not sure what one of the reviewers was talking about when saying that they dont think the produce is local or fresh. I have literally never had a problem with any produce I have purchased there and go almost weekly. Also the other reviewer said something about employees eating Burger King behind the counter? I experienced really horrible customer service here- the worst at a grocery store I have ever been to. I don't understand why it is so hard for employees to just be kind to customers. There is a very BOSSY Latina at the cash register who was unpleasant from the moment we rolled up to her register. She gave us attitude and wanted to lecture us about the line (which was disorganized and confusing inside the store) even though I thought there was 2 lines? I didn't want to create conflict so I kept my mouth shut..and she kept making unnecessary bossy comments the whole time until I finished paying. When she was scanning our produce, I left the bag there but then had to silence my phone (my dad was blowing up my phone with texts..), and she says "I'm not here to bag your stuff for you!!! You need to bag your own things!!!" In an extremely demeaning tone. Now, she only scanned 2 of my 12 items at that point so it's not like she was waiting for me to bag all my stuff. And also, I was waiting for her to scan the bigger items to put into my bag first at the bottom. With COVID going on still, most grocery stores don't want you to be too close to the employees anyway and there was no sign that says "bag while items are being scanned". I wonder if this angry employee was just having a bad day? But it's NEVER ok to take out your frustrations on customers just to feel better about yourself. I am not coming back here again. I'd rather pay a few more cents on vegetables and have better customer service else where :) kindness is priceless- but you won't get it here. read more

Absolute best place to buy your local produce, salsa, organic dairy, beef sticks, meat and much more! I go here every single week to buy my produce. Their prices are reasonable and stable! Their produce is so fresh and as local as they can get it! Oh and they have fresh big bags of basil and mint for like $2! Which is great because I just keep killing the ones I grow somehow. I've never gotten sick from eating their produce, as I do from some of the store's produce, like Safeway's apples. One thing to remember - bring your own bag/box. Sometimes they have extra boxes. And the other thing is - if you're only pick up a couple of things for tonight's dinner, bring cash! You can't use your debit/credit card unless it's over $5, which my orders usually are! They also, usually, have some past-its-prime produce that's heavily discounted! These are great buys to put in smoothies or eat within a day or so. I once got a personal-sized watermelon for $0.50 from that area and it was fabulous! Right now they have eggplants and melons in this area. It changes all the time! This is a great place to go for some beef sticks, they have many different kinds. All locally made. Most just $1.75 and super tasty!!! The cream of their crop (in my opinion) is their housemade Pico de Gallo and Guacamole! You can thank me later for that tip!! Lots of times I go there and they are all sold out of these gems. I love this store. My wife and I juice regularly so about 2/3 of our groceries end up being produce. We found this place when we first moved to Olympia and we've never stopped coming back. We shop here almost every week. This is about the cheapest place I've ever found when it comes to apples and I go through a lot of apples making our juice. Most of the time I get them here for 59 cents/lb, which is about half of what you will pay in a grocery store. If you're looking for great produce at a great price stop in here. It's way cheaper than any supermarket in the area, the staff is quite friendly and helpful, and it's easy to get in and out of. If you juice like we do, come here for most of the produce you need in bulk. If you buy organic they have a huge selection of that too! read more

This is THE place to get your fruits and vegetables! You can't beat their prices and the staff is always friendly. They also have a separate business inside that sells meat - again, the best prices and quality you could ask for. We haven't gotten a bad cut of meat yet. You do have to use the veggies and fruit in a timely manner... they are usually perfectly ripe when you purchase them, unlike in the grocery stores when your fruit is green. I have worked next door to Jays (literally right next door... just a few short steps) for over a year now at Spruce Skin & Wax Shoppe and today was my first time in there EVER. Yes... I am ashamed. Went by today about half an hour from closing time (6:30 on a Sunday). Everything in their selection was no doubt fresh, tasty looking and they had a big variety for the size of the store. This is what we picked up (weight is approximate but close): Bag of Mini Carrots 4 lbs of Mandarins Almost 2 lbs of Minneolas 2 medium-sized ripe Cantaloupes Bag of celery hearts 2 x corn on the cob 4 assorted apples 1 box of sexy looking Strawberries 2 medium-sized grapefruits 3 mini avocados 4 bananas 1.5 lbs of green grapes 1.5 lbs of red grapes 3 tomatoes 2 large russet potatoes 2 large english cucumbers Grand total was $20.87 = ABSOLUTE STEAL! My BF and I used to RELIGIOUSLY shop here when I lived in Oly You can get a HUGE local, free-range, grain-fed steak for around $5.99/lb Every week in the summertime I'd come spend my weekly pay on shrimp, lobster, and steak to grill. Best produce market in and around Oly in terms of quality and affordability! We go here at least once a week to get organic fruits and veggies! They also have a meat counter as well as numerous types of smoked meats and cheeses. The elk and buffalo jerky are delicious... they also make a type of "trail mix" with various types of jerkies and smoked cheeses. It's seriously addicting! Everyone here is very friendly. And the prices?! They can't be beat!! You can get healthy organic produce without breaking the bank... which is a feat in itself in the Oly area! The only downside?! THE PARKING!! The lot is small, narrow, and full of potholes!! And of course, half the people there can't park!!! All in all, though, Jay's farm stand is AWESOME!! :) read more

The vegetables we have occasionally bought over the past 3 years are second rate compared to Trader Joe's, Safeway, Ralph's/Bayview though their prices are very close to what T.J.'s and Safeway charge. Ralph's/Bayview and Haagen prices are in the stratosphere, comparatively but the former and latter do sell choice fresh veggies. read more

Wonderfully cheap and fresh produce. We bought a number of apples here and the pink ladies were probably the best we've ever had- perfectly crisp, tangy, and sweet. They also sell Johnson smoked meats and cheeses- we recommend the elk stick (the cheddar cheese was just eh). They also have a seafood merchant inside the shop that sells fresh fish and yummy hot smoked salmon. Perfect place to buy some snacks before setting off on that hike in Olympic NF. read more

Super good, super cheap produce. Things aren't quite as 'polished' as at the big places (more bruised produce etc), but as long as pick stuff out, this place is amazing. Good place for local dairy and eggs too. Even the hours are good (7-7, 7 days a week at the time of this review). The meat store that shares the space has great fish sometimes too.
