Anticipating that it would be busy on a Sunday I popped in the day before to see if we could book a table. We couldn't for brunch - they take bookings during the week only. Undaunted we rocked up mid-morning today and while full, we were seated within five minutes. Tea and coffee orders were taken and we were warned of a wait of around half an hour for mains due to them being very busy. The menu was extensive and has breakfast/brunch and lunch options. There were some familiar items, staples at previous locations such as sticky black rice and potato and feta cakes. Kerry recognised the chef from Jafa and was happy. The food took as long as we were warned but it was all worth it. Ryan opted for French Toast with Bacon which looked and I'm sure tasted spectacular. Kris on a pre Japan budget went for a couple of sides, a potato cake with smoked salmon which was presented nicely. Luke as he usually does headed straight for the lunch menu and had some sort of chorizo stew I didn't catch the name of. Kerry and I opted for the same thing - the Red Flannel Hash. I assume the name refers to all the red ingredients and the dish itself was perfect; fried baby red potatoes, red onions, chorizo and poached eggs. It all worked and the sautéed red onions added a delightful sweetness to the dish. As we paid the bill Kerry struck up an almost fanboy discussion with the owner reminiscing about previous brunches at previous locations. Kerry was home at last. It was cute to watch.

Came on a lovely dark grey rectangular dish-plate with two pieces of bagel stacked on one side. A piece of pastrami on each half with smeared hot mustard (very nice) and topped with melted hole-y swiss cheese pieces. Came with radish shoots balanced on the centre and a pickle on each bread. Sundried tomato pesto in a glass shot glass placed on one side- used it all up, very good flavour and texture. Delicious- very toasted so a bit difficult to cut but yum, worth the effort. Also got one of their superfood beetroot raspberry smoothies. Was a very interesting mix of flavours but yum- and bonus: healthy. Had sprinkled sesame seeds on the surface and mixed with chia seeds. Keen to try their others! A stunning little cafe in Milford central- park on one of the side streets nearby. A communal table in the central area with smaller tables in the front and back (couch/ bench seating far in the back). Outdoor tables available also- which is great when the sun is out. Love the exposed concrete wall on one side of the inside, balanced with the black and white painted one on the opposite. Very cute kids play area in the back corner with a black whale just above it- with curly, pacific patterns all through it. Beautiful. Nice use of tiles and sketched prints that are framed on the wall. A delicious looking cabinet- filled with tarts, cupcakes and slices. The service was amazing and the ladies were so friendly. The food was great- we had carbonara and a Belgian waffle and got the kids chicken schitzel and chips. I follow both of them on instagram and their pictures are always incredible - who knew healthy food could look so good! Anyway, three weeks after opening I finally made it to their new store in for lunch with Dad. It's a lot smaller than I expected with a row of window seats and a couple of tables outside. All up, it would seat 15pax max. As for the food, they had three options - all of which came in takeaway containers. Dad went for a vegetarian noodle salad, which was kind of like a healthy pad thai. He seemed pretty chuffed with his choice and after stealing a forkful, I understood why! Full of flavour, fresh, light, delicious. I opted for the tomato, lentil and preserved lemon soup, which came with a warm bread roll and butter. A real winter warmer! We couldn't resist sharing a piece of raw, vegan tiramisu cheesecake to finish. It was expensive but pretty incredible. A nutty base with smooth layers of coffee and vanilla sprinkled with raw cacao powder. A fabulous addition to Kingsland! Stop in for coffee and cake on a sunny day or pick up lunch to takeaway.

This was the first time I've actually tried a muesli and it was amazing. Fruit toppings (a generous amount of grapes, strawberry and blueberry) went well with the soya milk and yes, I will come back here to have more of this. What was extremely surprising was how delicious their ice mocha was! It was blended with an ice cream so had a very thick texture which was enjoyable.
