Interesting name isn't it? Certainly is memorable if you can remember the name lol! No really, this cafe is standout. They serve Supreme coffee, have the usual counter food including date scone, savoury brioche, quiche, afghans etc. Generally open 7-4pm weekdays and 7-3pm weekends. Menu is extensive with good breakfast and brunch options ranging from salmon on a bagel to an egg banquet (eggs, ciabatta, sausage and everything else) Lunch choices can be a steak sandwich to fish of the day. Price point starts at $10, so it's about $20-$25 for brunch with coffee. Staff are friendly, courteous and accommodating. They have good seating in the cafe and out the back, tables and communal seating. It can get very noisy with large groups. I have acquainted this place many times since it opened, always consistently good. Yelp!

After my stint in London, I am back in Auckland and ready to rip back into the wild food scene. If I learnt anything in London, although there is a lot of eateries on offer, I found it difficult to find any place that nailed brunch. A kiwi's fav meal, it had to be one of my first meals out. My first venture: Hello Friends and Allies. Chic, bright and airy cafe in Remuera/Epsom. The cafe follows similar trend to most cafes in Auckland these days with mismatched chairs and sharing tables. It has a welcoming feel with a clean white design, hanging plants and large open windows which allows the sun to stream in. I thought I might have been all cheesed out after travelling around Italy and Greece the last three weeks, but I had to try the Pea and Marscapone Bruschetta. What was great about this dish, the cheese didn't over power the dish and the pea was still evident. Its a great portion size and great value for money. I had a little nibble of my dining partners dish. I was purely just interested in trying the kumara sourdough. Again another well thought out dish. The egg oozed out perfectly. Although it was cooked in beetroot liquid, it gave it a bright pink colour, but that was about it. The only little complaint, the kumara sourdough, was too soft in the middle and quite crusty on the outside. I can say the chefs were definitely our allies here! The FOH staff not so much. As it was a weekday, and not overly busy, the staff could use a pep in their step and a smile. Overall, a great start back to Auckland and would return again! Rating Food: 9/10 Service: 7/10 Value for Money: Very Good 93 Great South Road, Epsom Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-4pm Sat-Sun 8am-4pm

Amazing! No complaints from us. It was a busy Sunday lunch but we didn't wait long at all. Our coffees and food came out quickly. They looked absolutely amazing and taste was even better.

Stopped by on our way out of town and was so happy we did! Cotton candy (fairy floss) on red Velvet pancakes is SOOOO me! It was so delicious! My husband really enjoyed the tangy French Brûlée Toast. The savory fare was also well loved by my family.

Every now and then, you find a new place that makes you want to return the very next day. Despite its suburban location, Hello Friends and Allies is a slick and welcoming establishment that fills it's cosy walls with a tantalizing array of deliciousness. From the flower and icing sugar strewn bakery cabinet - think giant doughnuts, colorful brioches and crystalline cakes - to the intelligently global menu of chili scrambled eggs, Spanish omelette with Serrano ham and manchego, red velvet pancakes with fairy floss and sticky black rice, there's something for everyone's taste, but nothing is quite as you'd expect, with unusual elements elevating conventional flavours beyond the pale. Take the scrambled eggs for example - just the right amount of harissa and a skirt of eggplant paste dressed a standard breakfast in exotic clothes and transported me to a sunny balcony in overlooking the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. And the plum brioche was Willy Wonka purple, and fruity and sticky as though it had just come out of a Fraulein's oven. The chef is definitely in command of flavour and I'd dare my worst enemy to challenge him here!

With vegan and gluten feee options, this was a great spot for lunch. We tried their tacos for lunch and I have to say it was one of the best vegan and gluten free tacos ever hands down! The tortilla was soft yet crispy with a beet hummus done to perfection with every texture imaginable from crispy chickpeas to the beet chips and the softness from the hummus and slight spiciness. The dish when plated looks like it belongs in an upscale Michelin style restaurant. This place packs a ton of flavor! We also shared their hand cut fries which were large and satisfying. They have the feel of potato skins with the crunchy exterior and a soft and supple interior and the taste is unbelievably satisfying when dipped into the spicy aioli that accompanies it or just plain ketchup if that's your jam. The chicken tacos were also pretty dense and crunchy and fried to perfection. The sauce is sweet and tangy and makes for a filling lunch! This place is a must try for sure! Service is also superb and everything comes up in a timely fashion and fast! Staff is very aware of dietary restrictions which is very helpful!

I started with the Bruschetta which had tomato, avocado, basil and bocconcini (small mozzarella cheese balls) which was absolutely delicious. The bread was crispy and bocconcini so fresh and soft! Prawns in prawn risotto ($21.50) were huge and tangy and the seasoning was perfect. Mediterranean eggs with bacon ($15.5) was average while Rare grilled tuna salad ($20.5) was slightly too bland. I didn't try the Grilled salmon ($20.5) but everyone else seemed to enjoy that dish. We also tried the Muesli which was the chef's special. This was the first time I've actually tried a muesli and it was amazing. Fruit toppings (a generous amount of grapes, strawberry and blueberry) went well with the soya milk and yes, I will come back here to have more of this. What was extremely surprising was how delicious their ice mocha was! It was blended with an ice cream so had a very thick texture which was enjoyable. Also the bread that came with salads was absolutely crispy and fresh - I could have eaten the whole thing.

Well, for my taste anyways, I like smooth mild coffee with aroma :) Came with another friend this time, ordered some simple lunch, an Aubergine Panini and Chicken Filo, tried both, loved both. They're definitely up to standard, not your average café food. Is it just me or have they gotten better?! I'd be satisfied with this quality at a fine dining restaurant! You know how most café side salads are just too horrible to even try? ( I know I'm picky) this is not the case! I actually enjoyed it!! Well worth the money and experience!! If you're coming by Newmarket, this would be the café I recommend!!

I hadn't really paid much attention to it previously until late one afternoon just before closing a friend and I were having coffee down the back and and the guy walks down and starts roasting the beans, so you know the beans are fresh. It sort of smells like a mix of nuts and popcorn roasting and the machine sounds like a train engine but it was interesting to match as he took them out of the roasting trays and bagged them. This is one of my friends favourite places to come so we do breakfast here every so often. She always has the porridge which looks really good, fruit and fruit syrup and very generous servings. The fresh fruit I am never disappointed with, the fruit is always good quality and fresh, unlike some places where they give you rubbish. Great service and space, an awesome place to come.
