Thai Kitchen - The place to be for great food

I was sceptical at first, expecting a microwaved meal. How wrong could I be!? We were told on a Tuesday it was curry night - 2 Thai curries with rice for £10. Not bad and not a lot to lose so we tried it out the next Tuesday. We were welcomed by a young man who was very pleasant and he said we can sit anywhere. It has a feel of a pub but this is not a bad thing for an informal bite to eat. The drinks order you have to place at the bar and pay separately as it is 2 separate businesses. This is a strange thing but it doesn't detract from the quality of the food. Also drinks prices are reasonable. The food was served to the table by a lovely woman with a massive smile. The smell as the doors opened from the kitchen was amazing. The presentation was excellent. We hardly spoke whilst eating, it was that good. The penang curry was nice and spicy but full of flavour and the massaman was nice and mild filled with chicken and potatoes. For £10 this place simply cannot be beat on a Tuesday! Even at full prices it is definitely worth it. If you are in early enough you can even get a seat ready for the evening entertainment on a Friday and Saturday which is good if you're into that sort of thing. Don't judge this place for how it looks from the outside as it is an excellent place which deserves to do well.

From the outside it looks basic but when you see the menu and get your food served it's far from basic! Amazing sized portions and just so authentic. We just made it through the starters before indulging into our mains. Little did I expect that my portion would be enough for 3 people instead of myself. Had to box it up and will gladly polish off tomorrow. Can't recommend this place more as it's off the main street, staff and service were so welcoming, serving was quick (albeit it was quiet) and the prices are so cheap! Total package

I'm so glad that this place has received good reviews across the board. With a couple of other people we went for one of the banquets to experience what they have to offer - I was very happy with everything. My companions felt that the starters were a little disappointing, or at least quite generic and at times lacking flavour. I thought they were great though, because I value variety over quality perhaps! We all liked the soups though, which were packed with chicken and other tasty bits. The we had a selection of mains, from prawns to beer and so on. Tender meat, interesting sauces and fresh ingredients: all fine by me.

This restaurant has been around for ages, even earning accolades such as Gordon Ramsey's Best Chinese Eatery. However, management has apparently changed and the owners fell on hard times recently. You can't really tell the restaurant has had problems, however. The food was excellent when we went and the service was outstanding. We ordered the tasting menu, as we'd never been to Yu & You before and wanted to try a bit of everything. Prices are a bit high for the area, so maybe save this place for a date night. There is a full bar and plenty of dishes to choose from. I think our favorite dish was the lobster, but honestly everything was lovely. We had a lot of extra food as well, so it was nice to take our leftovers to-go for a cold Chinese food breakfast in the morning ;) Definitely recommend this location for those in the area. The food is high-quality and it's a fun place to celebrate or spend time with friends and loved ones!

We came along to try the place as it had won Gordon Ramsay's Chinese Restaurant of the year 2010…read more The restaurant was quite busy, mainly because of a large party group. The overall impression is that it is over-staffed by young inexperienced staff. As a consequence basic service is very good, but if you ask a question, they have to go and get an elder to sort it out. The menu was rather uninformative: there are only three pork main dishes for example but only one gets a description Honey Roasted Char Sui Pork served with fresh greens. We ordered Thai Style Crispy Pork (no further description). What we got was something that looked remarkably like sweet and sour pork with extra chilli. Four of us had a selection of appetisers (Crispy Wan Ton, Seaweed, Sesame Prawn Toast, Salt & Pepper Ribs); Crispy Duck with 11 pancakes (doesn't divide by 4); Thai Style Crispy Pork, Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, Stir Fried Chicken with Black Bean sauce, Egg Fried Rice and Soft Noodles. The dishes were all tasty, but some of the vegetables were perhaps a little under-cooked: almost raw. Again the service was good: they allowed us to change Steamed Sea Bass for Thai Style Crispy Pork, and allowed us to change the Egg Fried Rice to a mixture of rice and Soft Noodles. The food was good, not the best Chinese I've ever had, but definitely amongst the best: my problem is the cost. I don't know if it has gone up since winning the Restaurant of the Year accolade, but it is certainly very dear now. The winning menu is available which includes a Wagyu (a.k.a. Kobe) beef dish and costs £80 per head. We chose something more modest: the above banquet for four people, a bottle of water and a relatively modest bottle of wine came to a substantial £170+ bill. Individual dishes don't seem too dear, but it all seems to add up rather alarmingly. The restaurant has a slight night-club feel with a large bar area and strange choice of background music and a good sized car park. Overall: a good meal, copious inexperienced staff, expensive bill. If it was better value it would be 4*, as it is three will have to do.
