Wow…read more The food was to die for, we had a banquet for 4 people, all was amazing piping hot and portions where unreal. Ling was a fantastic host and full of joy and smiles, made her way around all tables to ensure everyone was happy, nothing was out of request for her. All staff were friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. Karaoke was added bonus and so much fun. Highly recommend

First off, that is some top rhyming in the name. I've seen far too many Chinese restaurants that…read morejust lazily use any old title for their shop, but that is brilliant. I do wonder whether the location was chosen because of the name rather than where it was though. Anyway name debates aside, Ling's is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to, ever. I've visited a fair few Chinese restaurants in my time, particularly in the last few months, but Ling's is so far above its competitors that it's embarrassing at times. The restaurant itself has a classy, contemporary feel to it unlike the usual dated look that most sport and the menu itself is large and impressive. The range of meals on their menu manages to cater for everyone as it includes fish, chicken, duck and beef dishes as well as various vegetarian options too, all of which are available at very reasonable prices. They also offer a takeaway service if you don't fancy having a sit down meal there but to be honest, the restaurant and service there is so good that I'd recommend you putting on some pants and going in there yourself.

My first impression upon entering was that it looks different than what you see on the outside. The smoked glass exterior windows and doors opens up to a spacious and inviting interior. Tabletops, clean. Silverware, shiny & streak less. Wine glasses, spotless. I was in the mood for crispy noodles and to my pleasant surprise they had them on the menu. Not soft/stir-fried but crispy as in crunchy. Not every Chinese restaurant has crispy noodles. Did I mention I like crispy noodles? :) I ordered the "crispy" Char Siu Chow Mein, sat back and waited with anticipation albeit reservedly. What came to my table was well worth the wait. A generous plate was set in front of me consisting sliced Char Siu pork, green onions, white onions, bamboo shoot, mushrooms, miniature corn, Chinese water chestnut, carrots and bell peppers....on a bed of crispy noodles! It was delicious and I polished it all off by myself. Don't judge me. There are only two things I'd change. They should make their oily chili sauce hotter and the fish aquarium lost against the back wall should be moved into the dining area. Sitting next to a large, soothing bubbling aquarium is preferred.

My partner and I visited Southport a while ago and couldn't decide on what to have for lunch, we…read morechose the Oriental Garden as it was located near to where we were parked. We were greeted by a fairly pleasant lady and was shown to our table, we were asked straight away what we would like to drink, we both asked for Tango or Fanta and was served orange juice with lemonade, it tasted vile. The restaurant had a distinct smell of dust and didn't have a very welcoming atmosphere, with one half of the dining area unlit. The middle-aged waiter thrust two menus under our noses and within a minute he was back to ask what we would like, feeling a little pressured I ordered something that I wouldn't normally order. I found the waiter to be very pushy, rude and lacked in knowledge concerning the Chinese cuisine. I overheard one lady ask the waiter if a certain dish contained any form of GSM, he couldn't answer and seemed to do nothing to find out either, she ordered something completely different. Our courses were served to us separately, so whilst my partner sat there with a dish in front of her, I was sat for around 3-5 minutes awaiting mine. The courses were also planted down on the table without any form of courtesy. The waiter paced up and down the aisle, which was a distraction and also caused a bit of a draught. At this point I summed him up as the Chinese version of Basil Fawlty. The food wasn't much better than the service, our local takeaway tastes better on a wet weekend. We ordered spare ribs, they were presented well, but they were very fatty and left an unpleasant after-taste. The main courses weren't tasty at all, very bland and left us both needing the toilet soon after. We are used to dining at quality Chinese restaurants, where the food is of excellent standard and the service is impeccable, we aren't snobbish, we just appreciate good food and friendly staff. No disrespect to the people that recommend this restaurant on other sites, but obviously they aren't too fussy where they dine. As you may have guessed by now, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, I suggest you do the opposite of what we did and carry on walking past.

Friendly service, tailored to the needs of the clients, reasonable prices, tasty food and a business that remembers the customers. I have recently found that I have a wheat allergy - something that makes dining out a nightmare. However, there is no cause for concern when dining here. Not only will they make sure your dishes are wheat / gluten free, they have changed their recipes for items, for example tasty Prawn Crackers ( which, I swear, are better than the wheat versions ) and will happily make adjustments to the banquet menus, where possible, including the Early Bird menu. For example, when I last visited the restaurant, the group I was with decided to go for the Early Bird menu. I thought I would have to miss out on the platter course because of the contents. However, adjustments were made so that I could have just as many dishes as my companions ( ribs, chicken wings, pickled vegetables, prawn ball ). Their reason for changing the menu - "You don't want a change because you don't like something - it's because you physically can't have something". What a wonderful experience. Thank you Christine and the rest of the staff. I look forward to my next visit
