I recently happened across Othello's late Sunday afternoon after returning from a day shopping - my girlfriend and I had no other options for places to eat so we dropped in here to see how it was - I ordered Barbecue Chicken and chips and she had the typical staple of a High street cafe, sausage egg and chips. The Barbecue chicken was the best Barbecue food I have ever eaten - and I habitually eat any barbecue food offered at restaurants. The chips were light and fluffy with a slight crisp - perfect. The food itself was absolutely fantastic - we've since gone back nearly every sunday and the rest of the items on the menu quite easily live up to previously set standards. The portion sizes are far larger than the prices would suggest as it is ridiculously cheap - unless you're used to Gregs or pound bakery you'll be hard pressed to find somewhere more affordable. The staff are extremely well mannered, very helpful and very courteous and hard working - I honestly feel that a 1 star review from some one who can't handle a bit of yolk (Don't eat eggs is my advice) is extremely undeserved for this hidden gem in the town centre. I'd rather eat here than traipse into Manchester for an over priced burger/meal of lesser quality. Othellos is a true staple of the traditional high street cafe but without the greasy spoons.

The crowd was a little older than you'd get in your NQ coffee house but I think that has something to do with it being 1pm in the afternoon in Bury town centre. A lot of the little pop up places in the town seem to be run down, and the shopping centre's could do with a lick of paint but if I was back in this next of the woods, Number Ten would be high on my list of stop offs. The main menu is fairly short and focussed on brunch options, but there is also a menu of specials on the wall to the left as you enter which broadens things out with sandwiches, soup and some other hot options. We both went with the main menu though - I had the breakfast (well, we're in Bury so I had to have some black pudding!) and Mark went for the mushrooms on toast. There are plenty of veggie options too. My breakfast was fantastic. Struck a really nice balance between being fancy (artisan beans, sourdough toast) but also being big and satisfying. I hate nothing more than a "full English" when you get a tiny portion, so this was great. To drink we both had lattes which were really nice and again, they were decent sized drinks. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The interior has a nice and cozy vibe... all in all a great experience.

Ditto has advertised itself as "real food that tastes like what it should , that is fresh and locally sourced". It ceratinly is all of this! The steaks are melt in the mouth. It is privately owned and run by a couple and they both just seem to love what they do. I know a good cup of coffee is multi fold, beans, attention, barista, but some places don't cut the mustard, and Starbucks does. This isnt' about that though it's about BBs Coffee and Muffins...which should be BBs Coffee and Muffins and Ice Cream and Milkshakes and Slushes. The average age of the servers at this BBs tends to be about 16 or 17 and there are always giggles on display, and the sounds of barking rebukes from the one older member of the team pulling them all into order, but they seem harmless enough and haven't got my order wrong yet, so judgment reserved. The store itself is open plan smack bang in the centre of the Mill Gate, and there's no shop front, of course it's under cover, courtesy of the shopping centre roof, but needless to say, you certainly feel exposed, and on display at being at the passing points of two entrances, which can be a bit "day at the zoo-ish" when it's busy. Tastewise, it's pretty average, but they do dip their fingers in many pots, and whereas I wouldn't order the coffee twice, i would order a multi layered slushie, or a strawberry milkshake, or a juice and an icecream. If you order a hot drink, it comes in a Grandma-esque tea cup and not a paper or polystyrene container. It's a mug-free zone so you probably won't see any burly lorry drivers in here. For a cuppa, a cake, a bacon sandwich or a Full English breakfast, this is a pleasant enough spot to stop in if you're nearby.
