I've been here a few times for lunch, but I usually grab a sandwich to go from the deli counter - today, i decided to sit in and catch up with a friend. They do everything here from sandwiches at lunch time to a full dinner menu - with all the usual Italian dishes making a appearance. I have only been here for lunch, so I can't comment on the dinner menu, although it looks varied with everything from antipasti, to pasta, pizza, steak.. you name it, they do it. So i'm quite excited to pop back here sometime and try this out. But for salads and sandwiches at lunch - spot on!

When you walk in, it has a good atmosphere this place, not too open, not too cramped. The waiter asked where I'd like to sit, I explained I would just like a coffee and that wasn't a problem. Here's where the seasoned pro sales skills come in... "I will leave a menu here in case you fancy anything to nibble" he said...well done, because it worked and before i knew it I had ordered the early bird special of any pasta dish and either a glass of wine, a peroni or a soft drink for £10.95. I asked if could have a coffee instead and that was fine... Damn you non existant will power!! I ordered a cheesey garlic bread side and the Gnocchi Etna. This was Gnocchi with spinach, chilli and sausage. As I sipped my lovely flat white, 20 minutes passed by and the food arrived. It was presented very well, there was easily enough Garlic bread to share if you needed to! The Gnocchi was really nice, not too spicy at all and the sauce was a nice consistency. It was maybe a little salty, but that was mainly due to the sausage and the pancetta that where in it I'm guessing. The waiter did a check back, which is good (if not it's a bit of a bug bear for me) and brought me the bill promptly when asked. Grand total of £13.90 which i thought was a bargain as I was well and truly full! I would recommend Lucianos to anyone that fancies either a nice relaxing coffee in different surroundings than your usual chain bought one and now if you fancied somewhere for a casual, yet still somehow sophisticated, light evening meal for a bargain price.

It represents true value for money and is much better than the university canteen and Subway. There are a number of sandwich fillings you can have and all sandwiches are made to order. Everything from a salad bap to a sausage and bacon sarnie. Price wise it's cheaper than competitors but the only down side is that it is take away only. It's only down the road from Hanley Park so if it's a nice day, venture there to enjoy a lunchtime snack.

The best Patissier and Chocolatier in North Manchester…read more Any time I drive into Manchester (which is very often) I have to drive past Slattery's and always manage to make some excuse to pop in. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well. If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.

I love Mary Poppins, and when I saw that Poppins Tearooms was soon to be opening in the heart of Horwich, I couldn't wait to give it a try. The tearooms occupy a former shop unit, which in turn is part of a house, so I was curious how they could make it feel less of a house and more of a venue, but that's the clever part... they intentionally don't! Split into two rooms, the tearooms intentionally feel like an Edwardian parlour, complete with pretty glass sconces, flock wallpaper, and lace tablecloths. The room to the rear of the building is cute, comfortable and (like the rest of the place) cosy. I chose to sit in the first room, but the rear parlour would be ideal if you want a little peaceful intimacy. My initial impression walking in was very pleasant. I walked in from the drizzle and cold wind into the warmth, where golden oldies were playing gently in the background, and a few ladies sat around happily chatting away, laughing and enjoying afternoon teas. A member of staff, complete in Edwardian service uniform welcomed me, and after I hung my coat on the coat stand beside Mary Poppins' hat and parrot handled umbrella, took me to a table and gave me the menu. The menu has some really tasty options both in the delicious sounding food menu, and the impressive tea offerings. I opted to go for the mature cheddar and ham toasted sandwich, and a pot of Assam Bari tea, provided by Ronnefeldt Tea, who are more well known for providing tea to five star hotels. Lucky little Horwich! The loose leaf tea was delicious, and came served in cute vintage crockery. Although this time I chose a toastie, I liked the look of "Tea with Bert", a traditional cream tea which I'll be partaking in next time! My toasted sandwich arrived on doorstop toast, lovingly crammed with ham (no miserly single slices here!), and melting cheddar and served with a bijou dressed salad, and a pot of coleslaw. It was a delicious lunch, and the coleslaw was lovely and crunchy too. The price of this lunch complete with tea came to less than £6, which is very good value! Sadly, Poppins doesn't currently accept card payments, but they plan to in the future once they get a little more established. The owner also told me that she had great plans for the future, not just continuing the Mary Poppins theme (there was talk of a mural and even an upside table on the ceiling!), but other ideas such as tea tasting evenings, and hosting private parties in the rear parlour. Poppins Tearooms is a lovely place and really good value for what is being offered, in such a pleasantly cosy, warm and quaint setting. Whether you fancy a pot of tea and a slice of chocolate cake, or a bowl of warming soup and a glass of rose lemonade, Poppins is somewhere I would happily recommend.

Avery busy venue, the quality of its produce speaks volumes, we use it as a weekly treat and enjoy meat and potato pies, with a jam slice. You can aslo choose hot soups, cakes, sandwiches and if you have a special occasion they will make and ice birthday or celebration cakes. They have also further branched into the catering business and cater for outside events. They also run a couple of small outlets. Ever popular,i can't see them ever going out of business.

I've tried their sausage bloom with fried egg and caramelised onions and also their French onion soup and 'The Big Fish' toasted sandwich. These are great - just the perfect amount for lunch. Their coffees are good too. The people who work here are lovely and the service is fast. I can imagine it being the perfect place for a quick take out sandwich. I can't fault Bloom at all, and i'm sure the more time i spend in Nantwich, the more i'll enjoy coming to Bloom.

When it first arrived I was slightly overwhelmed by the amount of rocket on it, however, it turned out that this worked perfectly with the intense smokiness of the mackerel (and made me feel slightly healthier). The lemon, pepper, and balsamic vinegar added a nice sharpness and complimented the peppery rocket. Also, the locally baked seeded roll was noticeably fresh and delicious. If you decide to dine in at Bloom you also get a little bowl of fresh, homemade coleslaw. This is easily one of the best coleslaws I have ever eaten. It doesn't do anything particularly different to any other 'slaw', but it is sharp and zesty whilst also somehow managing to be creamy and luxurious. The sultanas adding a nice fruity sweetness as well. Overall, Nantwich (and Cheshire) is lucky to have such a fabulous sandwich shop and if I'm in need of a sandwich there aren't many places I would choose over it in the country. Some people have remarked to me that they find Bloom a little pricey (my bill came to £11 for the sandwich above, a coffee and a cold drink). However, although that is slightly more expensive than other similar places in Nantwich, I would rather pay the extra and know that I am getting quality food from locally sourced businesses and suppliers.
