Asian street food in Finnieston? I knew I had to visit ASAP when I heard about this place (thanks Pammi G!). I wasn't actually all that hungry so I tried to order light (and failed). They have two menus - one traditional Chinese menu and the street food menu (I've posted pictures of both). The street food menu doesn't have headings in English but you can work it out (mostly) - I ordered from the skewer/grill section and asked for 1 x chicken skewer (£1.50), 1 x aubergine (£2), 1 x scallop (£4). The lady serving was really helpful and pointed out that they were happy for me to just order one thing only if that's all I wanted. I was greedy. Oops. She later popped back to say they didn't have the chicken so I decided not to order a substitute as I was already fretting about how I was going to fit this food in. The food did take a little while to arrive (I'm guessing more than 10 minutes) but it was all prepared fresh and I wasn't in a hurry so that's fine. The scallop arrived first and was just one scallop in a shell - nicely presented and absolutely delicious. I'm just not sure about the value for money for this dish! I loved the garlic hit to the dish and it was really tasty. The aubergine (eggplant) arrived next and was again in the same kind of garlic marinade. I was really impressed as this was cooked perfectly and so many places do aubergine wrong. So kudos to them for that! I would say that without the marinade it was a little plain but that's maybe my fault for eating all the sauce off it. My bill including a coke was around £7 which wasn't too bad for a light afternoon snack. I love the decor here - the posters on the wall look amazing and I think they've done a really good job of it. The street food menu really appeals to me - larger dishes like yuhong aubergine (I don't know what it is, but aubergine anything is a winner to me), braised beef flank, mini buns with pork and crab and Singapore rice noodle all sounds delicious so I know I'll be back soon. Plus they have specials written up on the blackboard above the counter. And there's the traditional Chinese menu with dishes like kung po, sweet and sour, satay etc. Notes: this place is pretty small and not a tonne of seating (maybe 14-16 seats). I'm not sure if there's a customer toilet. They also do delivery through JustEat.

So some might say that I'm totally and utterly addicted to Asian food.... Well that's true! So having passed little canteen a few times I knew it was on the list!! Located on the Finnieston strip I'm sure this place was a Chinese takeaway before, fortune something or other. Anyways we already ate dinner on Sunday night we were only popping in for a snack. As we got close to LC the fear kicks in that we might not get a table - this place is tiny, around 12 covers. We hung around outside for a couple of minutes and waited for someone to leave and thankfully they did. Just help yourself to table, the service is standard for a Asian street food canteen. There are two menus a Chinese and an typical western Chinese dish, we only got one menu given to us. Me being me I was totally itching for the Chinese one. I got Austen M to grab a takeaway menu to see of the street food was on it and YAY! It was. So our light bites were salt and chilli prawns - dynamite!! 2 steam buns to share very nice. Last be not least a beef skewer each this was nice and cooked well! No complaints. I wish I could have tasted more but as I said that the start I had already had my dinner, so until next time LC!

It usually means I'm a) drunk, b)…read morehungover or c) suffering a momentary lapse of self control and ruining my most recent attempts to be healthy. We've all been there, I'm sure. Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.

The best pizza place in the West End? It's a difficult choice to make but there's a good chance…read morethat it's Little Italy. I'm sure most people would at least put it in their top 3. It's not an enormous restaurant. A large bar/service area takes up a lot of space, as does the pizza oven at the back and as suck the seats are kind of arranged all the way around the edges. Somehow though, whenever I've wanted to sit in, they have managed to find a space for me. They do pizza and pasta mostly, with a few other Italian favourites. The coffee is really good and the cake is the ideal thing to bring as a surprise in a take away box to a friend who needs cheering up. Trust me, it never fails. The pizza comes as slices (really squares) or three other standard sizes, starting at 10 inch and is cheese and tomato by default. There isn't really a menu of standard toppings like, for example, mushroom and proscuitto, red pepper and goats cheese, Hawaiian, Four Seasons, etc. Rather, they just have all imaginable toppings and you tell them which ones you'd like. This way you pay for the toppings you want based on the size of pizza you order, and every pizza is, in that sense, personalised. Once you've placed your order you're given a buzzer (regardless of whether you're sitting in or taking out) and when it goes off you head over to that pizza oven and the chef will hand it to you with or without freshly ground black pepper, according to your preference. The pizza is always good too. Always. The base is great and the toppings are reliably fresh and delicious. Sadly, the days are gone when a snapfax and £4 could get you a pizza and a can of soda but their still very fairly priced for the quality you can expect.

Feel Italian for the Day…read more Italian staff, Italian coffee, Italian pizza, Italian radio, Costco pastries? :-) But let's get serious here. This vibrant little shop is the Italian espresso bar personified. The coffee is perfect for your morning cappuccino, the focaccia's perfect for a quick lunch and the pizza's perfect for your tea (or since we're in The West End should I say dinner?) Tiramisu? That's another story. It's not always on offer, but when it is - I'M THERE! Word of note though - just stay away from the sugar bowls. I've seen licked spoons go where they ought not to. Luckily I don't take the white stuff :-)

I was going to have the wings but they are baked rather than fried so a no go for me. I'll go back again. Decor is nice and staff are very friendly and the place was spotlessly clean which is always a good sign.

Thanks to Leanne R's photo of the menu I'd already picked what I was going to have - garlic & parmesan seasoning with mango chutney sauce. As we had a bit of a drive home (maybe 20 minutes) I asked to have the sauce put in a wee tub which they happily did. Graeme also got a poke of fries and home we headed. I would say that the large portion is actually kind of small - a good serving for one person which is ok (although pricey at £2.75 for chips). We had lots of sauce in our wee tub so that was good. The chips themselves weren't very impressive and I'll admit I was really disappointed. The chips were a bit soft and pretty pale for chips that are meant to be twice cooked. When we'd ordered in the shop we only had to wait maybe two minutes so perhaps they weren't cooked fresh. They are pretty chunky for frites. The mayo was ok - I wouldn't say I could overly detect the mango chutney flavour though. Sadly, these didn't live up to expections. I've had some amazing Belgian fries and these didn't make the cut. I would definitely go back as I'm not sure if it was just new-opening issues but I will be a bit less excited next time.

Maybe more on the expensive side than other places but I find it's worth it. I also like that they're open proper chippy hours and so I can get them after am otherwise busy night if I want to. That by itself makes me like it.

I've wanted to try Taco Bell for ages, I missed out when I was in Florida in 2011 so couldn't wait…read moreto try it when the first Scottish store opened this month. We tried the Big Bell Box, which is a larger meal for one (£6.69), the Crunchwrap Supreme meal (£5.29) and a Pork Quesadilla (£3.89). They were all good, especially the Crunchwrap - described as 'A warm soft flour tortilla layered with beef or Mexican chicken, nacho cheese sauce, a crunchy tostada shell, lettuce, reduced fat sour cream and tomatoes'. A vegetarian option for the Crunchwrap is also available (refried beans). As I haven't been to Taco Bell in the US I can't compare the taste directly, but I thought the flavours were good and liked the Mexican chicken and pulled pork fillings (didn't try the beef or beans - yet). The nacho cheese sauce is nice. Compared to the US it's a bit more expensive as you would expect (e.g. a quesadilla is about the same in £ and $, $3.99 average in US according to procelisto.com), although I'm not sure how the portion sizes compare (probably bigger in US?). Their food is not really Mexican, more Tex-Mex so if you want real Mexican food this is not the place to go (fact: there are no Taco Bells in Mexico after it left the Mexican market for the 2nd time in 2010!). Overall it's cheaper than alternatives for similar food like Taco Mazama and Barburrito but I feel like it's less authentic (not necessarily a bad thing as their food has its own unique flavours and tastes pretty good) and uses cheaper ingredients. For kids they have the 'kidsadilla' (chicken) or chicken rice bowl which are both £2.99. Cheese kidsadilla is also an option. The kidsadilla is pretty simple - just cheese and meat in a grilled tortilla with no options for extra fillings. As a happy meal is cheaper, bigger and has a toy I can't recommend this. The full size quesadilla is just as simple. Almost forgot to mention the churros...these are not good, too oily and crispy. So good and bad points but overall I like the taste and would like to come back soon to try the other options on the menu.
