I didn't think this place was awful, but I wouldn't go back. The portions were too small for the price and the flavors were hit or miss. The best bite was the ceviche with the plantain chips. I honestly didn't find any part of the steak entree enjoyable. The restaurant itself is cute and the service is fine, but I don't think it's worth your time
Food was divine. Such a mixture of simple flavors to make a dish complex. We started off with a few starters share and the each got an entree. The white bean and octopus was my favorite, while the rest of the table loved the Gambas à la plancha. The broccoli had a nice Asian twist. For my main I got the Little asada which had a delectable sauce and was cooked perfectly!
Nice meal with great ambiance! I really enjoyed the tapas, but my main feedback with my main was that they gave me a half chicken that was difficult to cut up into pieces...maybe I could have used my hands but it just didn't feel like the vibe of the restaurant. Also the prefixed menu seemed like a great deal, but they weren't flexible with accommodating dietary restrictions (I don't eat beef or pork and they were not able to modify the main entree to something vegetarian).
Little Bull and the tapas sharing plates don't disappoint even if you do leave lighter in the wallet if not the stomach. Our party of four leaned into the seafood options after creative if decidedly not cheap mixed drinks. Ceviche was lovely and a taste of what was to come with a forkful for each of us. The grilled octopus with cannelli beans broke through as one to remember for next time. The Gambas a La Plancha had the requisite garlic and sauce to mop up with the warm ciabbata, but the salsa piquin gave it a zing that distinguished it from the butter only focused gambas dishes so familiar from Jose Andres' of Jaleo fame among others. The tuna bulgogi (spelled with an extra l on the menu), one of the mas grandes options, was tasty and the presentation left the biggest impression. We shared 8 dishes with one being the larger plate and left full and happy. We did indulge in a Pastelito to share with its warm pastry, goat cheese, guava and whipped cream contrasting well with ripe black raspberries. Again, just a forkful or two each but that was all you needed at the end of a delightful meal. Sunday was hopping so reservations definitely the safe option.
Little bull is always a delight, and whenever I am in the area I make it a point to swing by for brunch. I absolutely love shrimp and grits and little bull does the best elevated shrimp and grits I have ever had, hands down. The ceviche was stellar and wqsserved with plantain chips and which made it even better. Their menu has many good options for those with celiac or avoiding gluten which is wonderful. The staff was attentive and was able to help me find more plates to try. My only gripe was the coffee didn't have refills and it wasn't mentioned verbally when we asked for more. Still, even with that i will be by again next time I'm in town
First time visiting Little Bull, so at the recommendation of our waiter Komal, we decided to try the tasting menu. Offering a selection of the restaurant's most popular dishes, the tasting menu allowed each of us to select 2 tapas, an entree, and a dessert--plenty of food for even the hungriest of us :) Again at Komal's recommendation, we decided to double up and each select the ceviche as our first course and I'm so glad we did! The snapper was PERFECT and it was nice to have some unsalted plantain chips to scoop all the fresh and citrusy goodness with. We also had the birria dumplings, which had the consommé poured on tableside. The short rib filling was wonderfully flavorful and paired so well with the consommé. The only thing that could have been better about them was if the broth stuck to the dumpling wrapper some more, like the traditional birria tortillas. Our other tapas choice was the octopus and WOW, this dish was amazing! The octopus was cooked perfectly and the warm beans brought some good warmth and richness. For entrees, we got the Little Asada (hangar steak) cooked perfectly at medium rare. The umami flavor lingered on the tongue and the presentation was beautiful. We also tried the Tuna Bull-gogi (I'm a sucker for a good pun) seared rare. The contrast of the warm over easy egg and the rare tuna was chef's kiss. The entire dish was full of flavors that I wouldn't have put together, but worked so incredibly well! Dessert was a singular option of churros with ice cream, which was honestly the perfect end to a delicious meal. The "churros" were cinnamon sugar donut holes, which were warm and soft, served with ice cream and fresh strawberries--the perfect mix of decadent and fresh. The ambiance in the dining room is nice, albeit a little loud. The dark and moody decor makes it a great date night spot. The patio seemed to be popular, but I was honestly too excited to be seated that I didn't look around much out there. I love that we have another delicious tapas restaurant in Durham, one that really stands out with its unique flavor combinations and beautiful presentations. Excited to come back and enjoy more of the menu!
I was able to visit Little Bull for friend's birthday brunch and I'm so happy I was able to experience this wonderful restaurant. I love the presentation (and taste) of the margaritas. I ordered the steak and French toast and I'm still dreaming about them both. The steak was perfectly cooked and had so much amazing flavor. The French toast was delectable and exactly what French toast should be. Our server anticipated all of our needs and was super friendly. We sat on the patio which was decorated beautifully, but I'll have to go back to sit inside because it was beautiful to see. I will say if you have somebody that's a picky eater. They might be a little nervous, but all the food is delicious. If you haven't been definitely add this to your list.
This place has a great vibe -- intimate and cozy with eclectic decor: chandeliers, dark walls, bold portraits, and oversized mirrors. Both the indoor and covered patio seating are comfortable and climate-controlled. Service was excellent 5+/5-- attentive and well-timed without feeling overbearing. We had a minor mishap at our table, and the staff handled it quickly and graciously. The menu changes based on local sourcing, which keeps things interesting. We ordered the scallops thinking they were cooked, but they came out raw -- surprisingly, they were beautifully done, with Tajín, peach, chilies, and fennel. The elote looked great but was a bit too salty to fully enjoy. The broccolini was the standout dish -- perfectly cooked with a flavorful chili crisp and furikake sauce. Overall, great ambience, thoughtful service, and creative food. Would definitely return.
Dinner for four on a Sunday night came to $274.13 including tax + tip, and Little Bull delivered something rare: both an outstanding dining experience and outstanding food. Too often restaurants excel at one or the other, Little Bull truly does both. One thing we've learned living in North Raleigh is that getting to Durham is often only a few minutes longer than driving to downtown Raleigh. We had an out of town guest, so we decided to make the drive. We'd eaten at Little Bull shortly after it opened (once for a weekday dinner and once for Sunday brunch) and loved it, but had never written a review. This felt like the right time. We made a reservation for four on a Sunday night. Because it was Sunday, parking in the nearby lot was free. The lot isn't labeled with the restaurant's name, but staff confirmed it was fine, and it's just a short walk across the street. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and welcoming. The staff struck the perfect balance of attentiveness and ease. Our server guided us effortlessly through the menu, navigating very different preferences, one vegan who loves heat and spice, another meat-eater who prefers milder flavors. As a group, we enjoy sharing plates, so we ordered generously... possibly too generously. One unifying theme we noticed across the menu was a creative fusion of Mexican influences with Asian, especially Thai, flavors, which made the meal both surprising and cohesive. What we ordered: * Little Asada - 8 oz hanger steak, pasilla marinade, asparagus, cauliflower purée, oyster mushroom, peanut salsa macha * Tuna Bulgogi - NC tuna, rice, kimchi, bok choy, oyster & shiitake mushrooms * Winter Cabbage * Charred Broccolini * Gambas a la Plancha - shrimp, salsa piquín, onion, ciabatta * Halal Geyüs - whole chicken, turmeric, salsa diabla, white sauce, greens, pita, house fries * Ceviche * Churro Bliss * Pastelito - puff pastry, goat cheese, guava, whipped cream, seasonal fruit, sprinkles I also had a glass of wine, and one of us ordered a Café Royale cocktail. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and deeply flavorful. Our vegan diner summed it up best: "The winter cabbage was incredible--and I don't even like cabbage that much. It was the best thing I had all night, closely followed by the broccolini. They really know what to do with vegetables." The out of town guest said everything they had was excellent. The ceviche was a bit underwhelming. I loved the Little Asada, though with so much food I ended up taking some home. The Halal Geyus chicken was tender and juicy. The house fries were excellent. For dessert, the clear winner was the Pastelito--light, balanced, and beautifully executed. I can't recall the exact seasonal fruit, but it worked perfectly, even though we were all quite full by then. Little Bull made a meaningful evening feel cared for, celebratory, and memorable. It's a place we'll return to, not just for the food, but for the experience.
I brought 2 of my friends here for dinner because I thought they would really like it and they did! We sat outside this time and although it was a cold evening, the heaters kept us warm. There were several new menu options, but ultimately I ended up ordering the dish that was my favorite the last time that I came here (gambas a la plancha) and it was just as good - if not even better - than I remembered!
Little Bull in Durham delivers a brunch experience that feels creative, soulful, and completely grounded in flavor. From the moment you walk in, the energy feels just right. The space is airy and thoughtfully designed with exposed brick, bold splashes of color, and natural light that fills the room. There's a modern southwestern feel woven throughout, but nothing feels forced. The decor is stylish without trying too hard, and the vibe is easygoing in a way that makes you want to settle in and stay a while. The staff matches the energy of the space perfectly. Friendly, informed, and genuinely excited to walk you through the menu. Service was attentive without hovering, and our server gave great insight on what to try and how dishes were prepared. We kicked things off with the Duck Chilaquiles, which came piled high with rich duck confit, crispy totopos, creamy guajillo salsa, avocado salsa, cotija, onions, crema, radish, and a perfectly cooked sunny egg on top. Every bite had layers of texture and heat, and the duck brought a savory depth that took the dish up a notch. It was bold, balanced, and satisfying. Next was the Gambas Grits, featuring grilled shrimp nestled on top of blue corn chihuahua grits with a punchy salsa piquín. The shrimp were charred just right, and the grits were smooth and earthy with a slight sweetness that played beautifully against the heat. It felt like a nod to Southern roots with a twist that kept it interesting. The Steak and Eggs kept it classic with a well-seasoned cut, cooked to order, alongside eggs done just the way we asked. Simple, clean, and familiar. It didn't try to compete with the bolder plates, but it anchored the brunch in a satisfying way. And then came the Frenchxican Toast, which was hands-down the favorite of the meal. Thick slices of brioche pan de natas, soaked in egg batter, caramelized with brûléed sugar, topped with fresh berries, and finished with a horchata glaze that was out of this world. It was decadent but not overly sweet, and had that perfect mix of crispy edges and custardy center that you dream about later. Little Bull brings something special to the Durham food scene. It's inventive but still rooted, stylish but welcoming, and most importantly, everything on the plate delivers.
Walked in on a Saturday and it was packed, so definitely make a reservation. I grabbed a seat at the bar and honestly loved the vibe--very grown and sexy ambiance. The food came out quick, fresh, and full of flavor. Everything hit exactly how it should. No complaints whatsoever, just a really solid experience. I'd absolutely come back.
Came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate me and my friends' birthdays! Had a good overall experience, but I'm not sure some dishes we got fully lived up to expectations. 3 of us shared the: - Duck Chilaquiles: Classic, I liked all the toppings. - Gambas Grits: Perfectly tender shrimp; the sauce was flavorful but way too salty for me. - Steak & Eggs: Steak was cooked well, but again one of the sauces was very salty. I actually really liked the herby green sauce though, provided great contrast to some otherwise heavy components. - Frenchxican Toast: Absolute stunner of a dish both appearance & taste-wise. The berry and horchata glazes paired with the fluffy, eggy brioche was just heavenly. Do yourself a favor and pls get this! Ambiance is amazing, so aesthetic- there's indoor & outdoor seating. Service was fast and friendly- our server, Kamal, was great. There's plenty of free street parking. It would be perfect if they ease up on the salt, but for now 8/10 would recommend!

A great tapas restaurant in Durham. Same owner as Aaktun and Mezcalito. The menu is diverse. I got the main half chicken "halal gueys" which was a great mix of flavors. I just visited this restaurant for my anniversary. The decor is bright, inviting with indoor(with heaters) and outdoor space. Even on a Monday, this place was busy. Their Halal chicken and Bread Pudding were delicious. For two people, I would recommend two tapas and one large dish. Don't forget the dessert! If you make a reservation and don't make it to the reservation, there is a fee. I can't get myself to reserve in advance, as a result. read more

an extensive menu of tapas and a few large plates. between two of us we did the tasting menu and added two appetizers and it was enough food. overall i was not impressed. many of the dishes were confusing and had a lot going on. i was excited to try the birria dumplings but the consommé was fine and it didn't really stick to the dumplings the way it normally would with a tortilla. the tuna bulgogi had a lot of mix ins which made it a bit overwhelming (mushrooms, kimchi, egg, bok choy, tuna). the ice cream we got with our churro dessert was the weirdest ice cream i've ever had - it tasted like skim milk, was icy, and had small chunks in it. weird. read more

The experience here was just okay. The service was friendly and attentive, and I have no complaints about our server. The drink menu was delicious, and we all enjoyed the variety offered on both the drink and food menus--although the food itself was a mixed bag. The plate presentation was lovely, and everything looked great. We tried the arepas, barbacoa, and the market vibez veggies, and I'd say the veggies were the highlight. Unfortunately, the octopus was a letdown--it was overcooked and chewy, so we had it taken off the bill. On a positive note, I loved the restaurant's atmosphere. I'll likely return to try a few other items, like the birria dumplings, though I've read some mixed reviews about the goat meat's texture. There's definitely more to explore on the menu! read more

From an Eater article, Little Bull's concept combines Asian and Mexican cuisines with a nod towards American comfort food. This place was amazing! The service was wonderful and our server had lots of insights and answered our questions wonderfully. The ambiance was lovely- kind of like Matteo but not as loud. There was an outdoor patio but we sat inside. The food was to die for- honestly my favorite things were the small plates so I'd probably explore that side of the menu more when returning. The small plates are very generously portioned too! The gambas (shrimp) were one of the best thing I've eaten in my life! read more

We went here on a Friday night with a reservation. We were seated right away and our waitress advised ordering everything at once so she could manage the timing of dishes coming out. We would order the ceviche, market vibes and the little asada again if we went back. The ceviche really stood out as exceptional. So many layers of flavor and fantastic variety of textures. The market vibes we ate with warm pita and I would eat this dish all the time it's so fresh and delicious. The grilled octopus wasn't my favorite but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The birria dumplings were tasty and I would consider ordering them again. The inside of the restaurant is really cute and has some fun cheeky art. It was a little too loud at first but overall it was a good experience. I'm excited to go back. read more

This place was PACKED on a wednesday and after having the food it made sense. This is a new restaurant in Durham and it's one of the very few aesthetically pleasing restaurants where the food matches the looks! They have indoor and outdoor seating and a nice bar with cute velvet stools. There was plenty of parking in the mini mart parking lot and on the street. Definitely make reservations because every table was full when we got there except the one we reserved. We actually ended up moving to the bar so we could sit next to each other and talk more since it was packed and buzzing on the floor. The service was great- everyone from the host to the bartender was super friendly and helpful. The bartender even made us really cool drinks that were even better than an espresso martini after trying to order one and finding out they didn't have it. Every other drink we got was fantastic as well. The food not only was presented well but tasted amazing. What we got: Appetizers: We got the cornrows, ay papi, birria dumplings and gambas a la plancha. The corn knocked everything out the park it was so delicious. I could've had 10. The birria dumplings were also big, stuffed, and good. The gambas a la plancha was super tasty. It was shrimp in this very flavorful broth. It came with slices of soft bread that was great to dip in the broth and then put the shrimp on top. We loved it. Also there are way more shrimp in the bowl than appears in my picture. The ay papi dish was fried potato balls with buffalo sauce on it. I was shocked taking a bite of the potato and seeing it was purple! All the colors of our food was just so pretty. The buffalo sauce was tangy for me but I don't like buffalo sauce in general so it was good otherwise. Entrees: We got the pork chop (not pictured) and halal güeys. I don't eat pork but was told they had one of the best pork chops he's ever had. I did try the mashed potatoes they came with and they were soooo creamy and yummy. I had to get the halal güeys off the name alone. I am a fan of halal guys food in every state so this was so cute and unique to name a dish. It was AMAZING. 10000/10. They gave you a generous amount of perfectly cooked and seasoned juicy chicken, a yummy salad, two tasty sauces (one spicy and one not), and two hot pita breads to make a wrap with it. For a celebratory dinner, Little Bull couldn't have been more perfect. The enclosed patio was bright and airy, and every dish was so unique and interesting while still approachable and delicious. The ceviche and crudo were super fresh and light, the veggies were cooked well and the tuna bulgogi was flavorful. The bread pudding was also so worth it. read more

This place was truly spectacular from start to finish. Excellent imaginative cocktails, fun and inspired dishes and outstanding service. This is one of the ONLY places in NC that makes octopus PERFECTLY. It's like I'm back in Spain or Portugal. The flavors of every dish were nicely balanced, perfectly seasoned and expertly executed. We started with 2 cocktails (the Negroni our way and the La Mula) fantastic! Then we ordered multiple small plates to share. First was the "Birria dumplings" in consume, they were pillowy soft dumplings filled with goat birria and topped with the delicious consume, (this is a MUST!) then we had the "tongue & cheek" it was a roasted bone marrow topped with beef cheek barbacoa accompanied by 4 corn tortillas & a homemade salsa (this was incredible, very indulgent!) next was the "grilled octo" this octopus was grilled to perfection leaving a beautiful crust and a very tender interior it was served over a bean mixture filled both a perfect balance of flavor to complement the octopus (seriously the best in the state!) we also had the brussel sprouts, the roasted potatoes with a delicious chimichurri, and the homemade bread & garlic butter, all were excellent compliments to the other dishes but could easily stand on their own if you were going vegetarian. Lastly we had to try the churro balls, they were perfectly cooked balls of heaven with a dark chocolate dipping sauce. I highly recommend this incredible spot for a date night or a night to catch up with a girlfriend. read more

Had a great time at the Little Bull. The food is sort of a Mexican fusion. Our favorite small plate was the DIY tuna hand roll, a fun twist for sushi lovers and beautiful presentation! Our server recommended the Birria Dumplings and Plantain Empanadas, which were a little underwhelming. The dumpling format doesn't add much to the birria experience; they don't absorb the broth well. The empanadas were quite hard, impossible to cut into. But the mole sauce it comes with was fantastic. Our chicken large plate "Halal Güeys" was the highlight of the meal. It's a huge serving for the price, that dish alone would've fed two people. It's a whole chicken cooked perfectly tender with crispy charred skin and smothered in a delicious marinade. It came with some pita, fries, side salad, and two yummy sauces. The diablo sauce is actually quite spicy! Drinks were great as well. I'm impressed they had a clarified cocktail on the menu. We wanted to try the Taiyaki dessert but wound up waiting quite a while for it to come out, almost like half an hour. A table with a large group was shouting quite loudly, disturbing the whole dining room and I wish some staff would've asked them to reel it in. When dessert finally came, the whole wasn't greater than the sum of its parts. Overall, the food at Little Bull is both aesthetic and tasty. It's definitely worth a visit and a great addition to the Durham food scene. read more
Delicious fusion dishes in a restaurant with an intimate ambience and good service. We did not have a prior reservation but luckily there were a couple seats at the bar. We ordered the food tapas-style, which was a great strategy to try more of the different dishes they had. The service was good - not sure if this was because we sat at the bar and the bartenders were right there to help us out, but no complaints here! The drinks were delicious as well. Absolutely amazing. I was already a fan of The Cortez (Little bull is something of a spin off) but this somehow impressed me even more! Very unsurprising, the decor was unique yet inviting and the music was super vibey. I came here for the first time with a friend for my birthday dinner and I am SO glad I did! We decided to get a handful of small plates to split between us and every single dish was amazing. I was actually drooling while eating if you can believe it! Tuna Mcnuggies: fun, delicious spin on a filet o fish, especially if you love cooked tuna! Octopus: their signature dish imported from The Cortez--and they did not disappoint! As expected, It was incredibly flavorful and filling (with room for other small plates of course ;)) Birria dumplings: word to the wise--get 4 so you don't have to fight over the last one! The goat meat was incredibly tender and the consomé was bursting with flavor. Tongue and cheek: BOY! I don't think I've ever had bad bone marrow per-say but I've never had perfect bone marrow like this. The juicy, tender marrow melted in my mouth with each bite. I wished I'd ordered two! We had read good things about this place and booked a dinner on a Sunday because it was one of the few places open that day. Parking was tricky but we managed to find a space on the street about two blocks away. We were seated indoors and enjoyed drinks, apps (birria dumplings, pan con tamate) and entree of tuna bulgogi. Everything is meant to be shared. Service was friendly and efficient. We were celebrating our anniversary and also ordered dessert -- we were thinking about the churro balls at first but ended up ordering the pastelito on the recommendation of our server (it was unique and delicious). One minor complaint about sitting indoors is that there are a lot of hard surfaces and the volume of the dining room was very loud. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal and experience. read more

This may have been the best dinner I have had since I moved to Durham. Little Bull is absolutely delicious and every aspect of our evening was delightful. The decor is appealing, our service was excellent and the ambience was on point! Definitely a bit loud for real conversations but we were sitting at the bar so we were closer together and not across a table! We ordered the following: *Charred Shishitos which had a kick but were so flavorful *The Gambas dish which I can't say enough. The shrimp were so flavorful and cooked perfectly. I wanted to drink the sauce they were in. *Ay papas which again that sauce........ *Bro Cheta was scrumptious ribeye on a skewer that came with a salad type mix and tortillas *Ceviche-this was my least favorite of the above dishes bit it was still good. I just have had better! I decided to get the Sauvignon Blanc from Chile which was yummo. read more
My new favorite spot in Durham. Visited for brunch the other day and can't wait to try dinner. The ceviche and plantains were amazing and the gambas were really good. The service is great and I got to meet the chef (much respect). Service was great I will def check this place out again read more

This place is sheer delight. Gorgeous interiors, winsome staff, and super-creative drinks and food. I've even heard laughter in the kitchen, multiple times, and it just makes me want to give this whole place a hug. read more

Street parking or there is a lot across the street. Never had a problem parking on the street with a very short walk.
