One year of healthy hair care at Lisflors. I will let you be the judge. No perms or relaxers.

Horror Story: Naturals Beware! This is my first time giving a bad review to a business. I'm not one to bash anyone's craft. But I had such I bad experience, I'm compelled to share my experience. So here goes (sorry this is a long one).... First let me say a friend highly recommended this salon, specifically the stylist Tania. This friend goes there every week to get her hair blown out. Additionally, I read all the the reviews on yelp and did as much research as I could on the salon. Everything I read had mostly positive feedback and my friends hair always appeared to be on point. So I felt fairly confident in going there. Although as a natural 4a-4b curly girl, I was very cautious to go to a Dominican hair salon. When I arrived at the salon there were 2 people in front of me. I used their restroom which was a hole in the wall. Literally, there were holes in the wall. It was so tight, you could barely move to use the toilet. They didn't have any paper towels or anything to dry your hands on. It looked like the bathroom had renovations that were never finished and they just left it like that. About 45 min later I was instructed by Tania to come get my hair washed. She had me hold on to this washing bowl contraption thing while she washed my hair. It was this thin plastic wrap cover that you had to hold it's strings at a certain angle to help stop the water from running down your back and shoulders. I've never seen anything like it. Not only was this uncomfortable to hold, you had to sit in the chair slouched all the way down in the seat because the bowl was so low. During the wash she was a little heavy handed and scrubbed my hair together which mated my hair up and made tangles. It seems this is something that happens across a lot of salons I find. They pull all your hair together in a pile and wash it on top of your head. With natural hair that it a no no. That causes tangles and mats. I sat under the dryer for about 30 min and was told I get a free deep conditioning since it was my first visit. Another stylist directed to come back to the sink to rinse out the conditioner. She detangled my hair with a wide toothed comb and started from the roots. As she combed the tangles and knots down, she held my ends so she wouldn't yank my head, but I could hear her ripping and pulling out my hair to get through the tangles. I guess hair salons just don't know you have to comb from the ends to the roots with natural hair. I then proceeded to sit in Tania's chair. This is where all hell began. She took a round bristle brush and yanked at my roots and pulled at my hair to stretch the curls and blow it out. I had to keep my head still and steady while she pulled, and I mean PULLED at my hair. I've never felt so much pain. It felt like my hair was being yanked and pulled out of my scalp. And the heat was soo hot on my scalp from the blow dryer. At one point I screamed because she held the dryer on my scalp too long. She got distracted talking to the other stylist and burnt my scalp. Side Note: This is a very unprofessional salon. During my wait and the time I was styled I watched the stylist, including Tania, keep stopping to talk and text and look at each others phones. Furthermore, there was one point during my wait where I watched the other stylist stop doing a lady's hair to put some facial cream on her face standing right over her. She didn't even wash her hands after. She just proceeded with doing the lady's hair. Tania came over shortly after and put some of the same cream on her face, and again did not wash her hands either, but just continued on with her client as well. The bushes they use are full of hair. During the entire time I was there I did not see anyone clean any of the brushes or combs they used. The Aftermath: About a week later I washed and deep conditioned my hair. My curls did not bounce back. They were lifeless and a looser curl. I didn't pay it much mind because usually when I wash my hair after it's been straightened, it takes a few washes for my curls to bounce back. A week later, I washed and deep conditioned my hair again in which a lot of hair come out in the shower. And still my curls have not come back. They are still a looser curl pattern. In fact I've noticed severe heat damage. I have random straight pieces all over my head where some ends are straight as well. I even have straight pieces at the root. After doing some research, I'm starting to wonder if they put some keratin in my hair. Some hair stylist I've found said that some salons put keratin in their shampoos and conditioners, to make the hair more "manageable". Unfortunately, I can only give this salon 1 star. And that is for the cheap services. Most salons charge $60 plus for the same service. Also I will say my hair felt very VERY straight. It was as if I had a relaxer. It felt very thin and lightweight, but it did have a lot of body. Please beware! They use A LOT of heat and are very unsanitary and unprofessional.

Flor has been doing my newly wedded wife's hair for 17 years! She never ceases to amaze me. She styled her hair for our wedding and I was very pleased as always! Flor is an elite stylist; as a man, I highly recommend her to any women looking for that beautiful look!

Finally get to post my own opinion, since everyone here gave Lizflor 5 stars, and they were not lying. Tanya took care of me, and OMG I just love how she left my hair so silky and smooth, and handled it like a real pro. The 75 minutes drive was worth it, and I will def be stopping by often

Very professional. Gets you in and out. No texting and talking in the phone while she does your hair. Excellent price point.

Excellent experience. My stylist Elena is very professional and nice. She gets you in and out quickly while doing a great job on your hair.

It was rainy out, so Lisflor protected my fresh look with pin curls to fight the weather but stylish enough to go to the mall.

Lisflor has style my hair for 15 years. As I have travel around the country, I never found a salon to replace her talents and dedication to maintaining healthy hair. In my desperation to get a clean cut to style with no curl for most days and bouncy curls when needed, I traveled back to Philly to have Flor assess my status. I am overjoyed with the results. She also now has a pin curl style so I can sport my pin curls in public to keep my hair fresh for later. Also convinced I can go natural with Flor's magic touch. . Definitely five 5 stars.

Gracias mujeres lindas nos vemos pronto!!!

First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

She smiled and agreed, and started cutting. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

David is really a perfectionist and he even told me that he's always open to criticism, so if you're unhappy with something, just communicate with him and he will be sure to make it right. There might be a language barrier if you don't speak Chinese but I think a translation app would work just fine. My husband got a Korean style two block haircut and I have to admit it's one of the best haircuts that he has ever gotten! The longer layers in the back blended seamlessly with the shorter portion on the back of his head. My husband is traumatized from getting haircuts because oftentimes you pay a lot for a haircut that you don't even end up liking, but he's glad that he finally found a spot that he will be returning to.
