I went to this salon to see Michael A. solely based on reviews from the website Naturally Curly. I…read morehave very curly hair and, like many women with curls, I've had a hell of a time finding a stylist who knows how to cut this type of hair. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. I gave Michael a picture of me from a previous haircut as an example of what to avoid. I clearly stated that I didn't want my hair to be much shorter, just shaped because it was not layered at all. Upon seeing the picture, he said, "Oh, that's too short. I'll just do a trim and shape it a bit." I thought we were on the same page. Although he didn't cut it as short as the previous stylist had, it was still shorter than I wanted it. He put crunchy gel in my hair, rather than something with a more natural finish, which I told him I preferred. It's a few days later since the cut and I am not happy with it. It's really not as nicely layered as I'd hope and is looking more like pyramid with small pieces sticking out from the back of my head. I'm hoping it will grow enough in time for my October wedding and I'll be going elsewhere to get it styled for that day. Finally, although Michael is personable, he cursed into my ear loudly several times. I have a pottymouth and am far from a prude but seeing as though this was our first meeting, I found the frat boy attitude unprofessional and it took away from the relaxing experience I like to have at a salon. I would never get my hair cut here again and can't recommend it for women with tight curls. I don't think that curly type is his forte despite his claims of being a curly hair expert. PS: The credit card machine wasn't working this day but I think it was a small glitch rather than anything that takes away from service. Front desk and shampooer were very nice and helpful. They also fit me in for a last-minute eyebrow wax, which I appreciated.

Since my first haircut three years ago with Michael A, I have not let another person touch my hair…read more I just went last week and got 10 inches of thick curly hair chopped off into the single most amazing haircut I've ever had. I'm seriously still getting compliments from people who have been looking at it every day for a week, saying they can't get over how great it looks. The total damage was $65 for the cut and style and I've never had anything else down there, so I can't testify to the other services. He spent about an hour and a half carefully crafting the perfect cut from my vague description of what I wanted. He takes the time to mold everything to the shape of your face so every layer falls perfectly to compliment your features, and for some reason it always looks even better the next day when I've styled it myself. It looks great both curly and straight, which is no mean feat, and he is a real master with curly hair. The cuts grow out nicely, too. As for the reviewer who commented about Michael's colourful language, yes, he's quite a character. He says things I certainly wouldn't think of saying to a customer, but I'm not easily offended and he's generally speaking pretty hilarious. If you're interested in the best haircut of your life with a few laughs thrown in, go check out East End. Their star rating on Yelp is seriously disappointing considering all the great experiences I've had there.

I did buy a Groupon, but the prices are reasonable, I would go back. The venue itself isn't impressive, but for me it's more important the service I receive. This was actually my second time there. I was there about two years ago. My only complaint is that both times the salon was extremely hot for my taste. So sitting under the dryer was rough. Originally I thought it was hot because it was summer, but this time it was a cool day in April. I recommend Adam, he didn't try to engage in meaningless conversation, which I appreciated because I had just finished a long day at work. So I was happy to sit and relax in silence, as we were the only two in the salon.

I was expecting a long wait, but they made sure I was seated in their salon chair within minutes. They offered me water in a nice glass and made sure that I was comfortable. I showed them a picture of the highlighting expectations that I had and they assured me that they could do it exactly how I wanted. They were quick, efficient, and very friendly during the whole process. I opted to get highlights with an ombre style. They let me know that it would be very natural and it turned out great! I have highlights in my hair that are intensified more at the ends for a more natural, less-streaky look. I asked for caramel/blonde highlights and that's exactly what I got. I love how the ombre highlights aren't overpowering and are emphasized when I curl my hair. This hair color is going to be low maintenance, and I can definitely grow it out. The gloss and product that they used smelled great and lasted even when I washed my hair out a few times. During the washing process, they provided a great head massage and I was really appreciative. At the end, they blew dry my hair and flipped it out just like the picture I showed them. I plan on going to California for Spring Break, so this hair color is well-suited for the beach. I plan on coming here for the rest of my hair appointments in the future especially since the staff is very accommodating and very interpersonal. Their prices are very reasonable. Malika and the rest of the staff sure know how to provide great customer service!

I have pretty curly hair and once I got home and styled it with the products and technique I like, WOW. It's been a long time since I liked my hair, my curls look amazing, and her cut really flattered my face. I'm excited to see how it looks when I blow it out. Heather was also super friendly and fun to chat with, we had some great conversation while she did her thing. It's pricier than what I'd typically pay for my hair, but I'm realizing I'm picky about how my hair looks and like I said, it's been quite some time since I was happy with the way someone cut it. Totally worth the extra money. I will definitely be going back here!
