I went here to get a full head of highlights for only $60 thanks to Groupon! Of course there was a fee extra charges on top of the original price because I have so much hair that requires extra product. Crystalina did my highlights and she did an amazing job! She was so quick and it came out so professional! Usually it takes other hairdressers so long to do my full head of highlights because my hair is long and thick! I was out within 2 hours and my hair looked amazing! The salon itself could use some updating, it smelled kind of musty inside and looked outdated and dusty but the quality of the work made up for the lack of atmosphere. My review is not about the look of the salon or the stylist, both were fine. I bought a Groupon for a Keratin treatment, which I'd had done 3 times in the past at different salons. The Keratin treatment at this salon is terrible and does not straighten hair whatsoever. I have curly hair and was looking forward to at least a minimum of 3-4 months of straight hair with little styling time. I had this Keratin put in 2 weeks ago and my hair is still curly and still takes an hour to blow dry and flat iron. Also, I noticed the texture of my hair is very dry now and stiff. I used expensive Keratin Complex shampoo which is made to use after the treatment, so that is not the problem. Unfortunately, looking through old reviews I found it would be useless to contact the salon owner to let them know the keratin treatment was worthless. There are very nasty responses to negative reviews and I am not the type to involve myself in such discord. Hopefully this review and experience does help others who are looking to pay for this keratin treatment think twice. read more

First things first. I think if you are a long-time client, you probably have no issues or complaints with the service. It has a homey/neighborhood-like feeling. And, from what I have seen by Lisa's interactions with other clients, that's what it is. However, if you are a first-time/new client, your experience will probably be very different than those who are regulars. (I will probably get "blasted" by the owner for this review, as she has "blasted" the other poor reviews.. But, here it goes anyway.) This is a no-frills salon. Do not come to salon thinking it is anything else. This is more like if your best friend just opened shop and you wanted to support her kind of place. I brought my mother in to have a keratin treatment done. It was to be her first ever, and I wanted to do something nice for her since she has had a hard couple of years. She asked if she could get a cut as well. I said we could ask. I had made this appointment for her (keratin) and for me (haircut) in early December for an early January appointment via text message because they do not answer their phones, and their facebook site gives the option to send a text. Considering that my mother and I have very hectic schedules, booking about 4 weeks in advance for an appointment is necessary for us. Much to my surprise that we walk in and they have no record of our appointment. After going back and forth with the owner, she first suggested we come back in two hours. That was not going to work. We both had plans. She asked if we could reschedule... but I honestly did not want to wait another month for this. She asked for us to come in on Tuesday, but my mother and I work in the city and are gone from 6AM until 8PM. Eventually, she made it work and took my mother. about 10 minutes early from the original scheduled appointment. 30 minutes later, I still have no clue if they are going to take me for my haircut. So, I ask, and she tells me to ask the girl who is doing my mother's hair. I ask her stating that I only need to know since I have plans and need to make other arrangements if they will not take me. She said that I probably should. So, off I went to a different salon to get my haircut. Abandoning my mother on what should have been a mother/daughter day. I come back after my haircut, and she just finished. My mother, being soft-spoken and typically generous with tips because she knows how difficult it can be, tells me that she does not even want to tip the usual amount. States "It's too much, and they didn't even give me a real haircut. Barely a trim." Mmkay. Overall, it was a ruined mother/daughter day. I wanted my mother to experience a keratin treatment that she would like because she wanted to keep her curls... and bond with her... But, this is what I got instead... I now definitely owe my mother a much better mother/daughter pampering day. read more

Her: We will also need you to text a photo of your daughters voucher to hold the appointment on Tuesday 11-3-15 as soon as possible. We can only hold the appointment with this. Thank you Her: Perfect. All set. Thank you! ME: picture of daughter hair already frizzing after 2 day ME: My daughter's hair Her: I will forward this photo to Crystalina Does she want something right after school? Her: Perfect. Please send a photo of the back of the Loreal shampoo with ingredients please. Thank you (Shampoo says safe sulfate free) Her: This shampoo is loaded with sulfate ,chlorides , and many other chemicals. That pretty much explains why the keratin was stripped out. That is why we recommend our products that go with and work together with the keratin product that we use ME: It's made for her hair treatment Her: No it really is not. Everything in there will pull out the keratin. Call any salon. They will tell you That is an over the counter product that is loaded with chemicals That is why we told you to buy out product or something from healthfood store by reading the ingredients. It is important to maintain the keratin ME: Ok so now what? Her: Let Crystalina take a look at it and we can take it from there She wants to wash it and look at it and see what's happening Will you be there at 5:30pm tomorrow! ME: Yes planning on it, what are we going to do for the hair Her: Crystalina will look at it and determine what needs to be done. She is certified in keratin treatments and specializes in them. ME: Will there be another charge? Thanks ME: Please recall that she waited 3 days to wash her hair, then used the product to wash her hair. Then she typically washes her hair every other day. I sent you a photo in less than 1 week. So one washing should not have created the frizz as soon as it did. All documented in e-mails. In addition Alexandria never received a sheet - printed set of instructions. All verbal. So when she spoke to Christina. Originally, Ally told her what she uses. For she had a Brazilian at the beginning of summer. Please let me know so I am aware of how we are proceeding with all this. Thanks. Her: We both told you and her about not using anything with sulfates or chlorides in the shampoo or styling agents. That was basically why's was in the sheet. You and she said that you knew that from previous keratin treatments. ME: This is what we used. No sheet was given. Her: The product is very expensive so we may have to charge you but it won't be the full price of $99 No read the ingredients. ME: No problem. Had a great experience here today and Kamilia did an awesome job on my very long, thick, wavy, and unruly hair. The salon is cute and so is New Canaan. The prices are terrific plus I had a Groupon for a $21 haircut. I'm from New Jersey but I'm in Stamford taking care of my ill mom so I had no idea where to go. Frankly, I was shocked at the cost of a cut in/around Stamford so I started looking farther out. I don't know why Lisa's doesn't get all 5-star reviews because it was perfect in my opinion! I purchased a Groupon for an all natural keratin treatment. When I called numerous times to make an appointment, no one answered the phone so I texted the number to make an appointment. I arrived for my appointment a few minutes early and was taken to get my hair washed after some time that my appointment should have started. The girl who was supposed to do my hair was in the middle of doing a client, so they had the receptionist (?) wash my hair. Usually this is a very enjoyable experience for a customer but this certainly lacked. I waited with wet hair for a few minutes, expecting my stylist to apply the keratin treatment but she was still busy because she had taken ANOTHER client... so she had the receptionist (????) apply the treatment. I was not aware that there were different options of treatment and I could have purchased another one that was added to the website until after I purchased. Once the treatment was applied by the receptionist I sat for 35-40 mins and then the stylist told the receptionist (??????????????) to start to dry my hair. She did not even know how to properly use a round brush. She had my hair half way dry before I took the brush and dryer into my own hands and finished my hair. Under NO circumstances should a client have to even feel the need to do this themselves!!! The owner saw I was upset and she had the original stylist stop doing someones highlights to finish blowdrying and straightening my treatment into my hair. The original stylist did an amazing job despite the circumstances. I wanted to wait to give this review because I wanted to judge the product itself, not just the experience. The treatment itself was very good. I have curly, processed hair and I am able to just air dry it and have it look very nice. My root curls are coming back a little bit but they are almost impossible to get rid of anyway. Overall, I would like to find another organic salon to do this same treatment to avoid going there, but if I have to go back I am going to be VERY FIRM with my expectations!!!!!! read more

I've been to Lisa's a few times with my teenage daughter, and we haven't had any problems at all. True, the decor is a little dated but that didn't bother me at all, and I never got anything less than expected: a decent color, cut, and style that didn't break the bank. I wasn't happy with my highlights the first time I visited (not a bad job, just not 100% what I wanted); but after contacting Lisa by email, she immediately arranged to adjust it for me ASAP and was very nice about it. She also made suggestions how I could safely tone down the highlights if I was unable to make it back to salon quickly. My daughter was also very pleased with the cut & blow dry with Crystalina. Overall, I think Lisa's salon offers good service at very reasonable prices. FYI - be careful where you park. There's complimentary parking across the street, which I didn't know about the first time, and I ended up getting a $25 ticket for parking along Cherry Street where the signage is not very good! read more

Both my daughter's had a very bad experience there recently. We have been threatened with law suits and being arrested. We have been accused of harassment when we were the ones receiving the threatening phone calls. My one daughter ended up at the ER with a reaction to the "organic products" that they used and was then called a liar and told she was faking it!! I can not believe that they are on groupon or even still in business. Of the 4 reviews I saw they were all one star and nobody had anything good to say. Must tell you something. read more

I have read the reiews of this business and totally disagree. Am wondering why someone would provide a text message that related how they did not follow the directions after their Keratin treatment. I have been a customer at Lisa's for over a year. Have had highlights, single process color and haircuts. Lisa and her staff are very helpful and the services and prices are great! The salon is clean and I have never been kept waiting longer than 5 minutes. My friends and work associates that I have referred there all agree with my assessment. It's a great environment and they do their work really well. But I was sitting in my chair before my hair dressers other customer came and once her other customer came she started working on her while she was in the middle of do my coloring. I'm not a huge fan of not getting her full attention while I'm paying 130+ for my hair. I decided to try a new place and boy am I glad I did. Crystalina, jasmine and Lisa were absolutely amazing. I came in for a cut and color and both came out absolutely amazing. I had been to two other salons to try and get the cut I wanted and who knew all I had to do was come down here! They accommodated me last minute on more than one occasion, they also made sure that I was completely satisfied. I really could not have asked for a better experience and I highly highly recommend this salon and every stylist is equally as amazing as the other. The salon is presentable and for the prices, it is what it is. However, the keratin really did not last and ... you get what you pay for. What I will say is that I declined the haircut and other services because the owner's hair is a la the 80's and her hair color, is, simply put, awful. Not what it seems online----- ( Didn't even want to give a star---had to in order to post) I recently went to this location and it looks like a barber shop that wants to be a salon. The staff seems nice enough until you expect them to keep your appointment time. At which point they just expect you to wait...... 45mins. I ran out to eat to kill time. While attending to you they are trying to push their "organic" products for you to purchase with very little knowledge of why you should purchase them other than what they don't have in them; like ammonia- that is "bad for your hair". Nothing of substance that will urge you to purchase in their explanation. And the kicker is that they failed horribly at being able to provide a one color process service. Their rationale is that if your hair contains any other or multiple "colors" that it won't allow for a proper coloring. I shared a previous bad experience to explain my hesitation in trying coloring again since my return from Afghanistan. Bad idea ! The owner actually had the nerve to implicate that I was the issue once I returned to show them the striping and obvious unblended outcome. I was disgusted with the customer service. the owner coped an attitude while offering to "fix it" and "that I was making more of it than it was". I have never been so disrespected in my life. My sister and I both came in to get our hair done. We aren't hair colorists so we told her what we wanted and asked her to guide us. Nothing to crazy either. Red highlights and blonde ones ...easy right. So long story short it didn't come out at all how we wanted and she was willing to fix it if we came back and purchased the product that she had to use... but why should we have too... then after a discussion where we didn't yell or say anything vulgar or even bad we were told to leave her salon and then as we got our stuff to leave her salon before she called the cops. So instead of fixing something that she messed up she yelled at us and told us her rent is high so she needs us to pay for it. Never would I go here even if my hair was on fire. read more

I had a good experience here. I would consider this location a "no frills" salon. The space is pretty basic, just two chairs, one sink, a couple seats with the heated helmets for coloring, and a small waiting area. It's not a super chic high-end spa, it's just a place to go and get your hair cut and/or colored for a VERY reasonable price. I waited for maybe 10 minutes for the stylist to finish up another cut and since she knew I was in a hurry, she was able to do my highlights very quickly. The color came out great and the cut was just fine. (Basic trim for long hair) They are currently looking for a new location in New Canaan, so be on the lookout in 2015 for their new space! read more

What a dump! First off, you have to park in what seems to be a construction zone with a bunch of creeps looking at you...the salon is small, like a barber shop kinda. As soon as you sit in the chair, they try to sell you shampoo and conditioner that's organic. The deep condition & "hair glaze" made no difference in my hair to the point where I actually went to another salon the next day & they told me they must have put a glaze rinse that lasts maybe a week tops. After I got a mediocre cut, would've had a better cut from Super Cuts, again they try to sell you a $45 a bottle shampoo and conditioner. So not only do you get a glaze that you can buy at Walmart and a deep conditioner that does nothing, you also get harassed to buy an extra $90 in products. Wasn't worth the Groupon at all and I wouldn't go back to this place if they were giving away cuts for free! Guess, you get what you pay for, lesson learned, STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Average/ok cut but horrible experience. Old interior, not warm, or nice, or inviting. I was going to have a haircut with keratin treatment, which I was informed during my shampoo was not real keratin. I then asked how much a haircut was, and I was told it was $45. I decided to just have a haircut and it was fine - the woman did an ok job. But she then conferred with the boss, and then told me that the haircut was actually $65. I thought this was highly unprofessional, and I never would have come to a place like that to get my hair cut for that price. The boss lady then ran my credit card through a cheap handheld device, and I didn't want to enter my email address (as I wanted no further correspondence). The device said the email address was optional, but it wouldn't continue processing until I entered it. I was annoyed by this, and the boss lady went into a huff and told me she didn't create the app. read more

I purchased a groupon and scheduled an appt for a thursday to get cut and highlights done. I had texted the salon asking to reschedule for Tuesday, i took the day off of work had a graduation to go to and was excited to get my hair done. when i walked in, it was a cute small place but it turns out they never moved my appt, miscommunication. they offered Crystallina to come in the next day to do my hair, i accepted. a little disappointed but glad they could accomodate me the next day. Later, i recieve a text saying there was a death in the family and i will have to reschedule for two weeks.. which completely defeated the purpose of scheduling an appoint in advance. They did offer me a $25 coupon off of future services but at that point i was frusterated and upset. I cant complain about the hair or their work, because i have heard that they do an amazing job, but i find it unprofessional that they couldnt find another way to fit me in sooner when i had made the appt a week in advance.. read more

DONT GO!!!! First, this is not a salon. The New Canaan location is a single room with one chair in the back of a shady looking industrial lot. There is a barber pole outside: that is how we spotted it. The stylist did not have well maintained hair. I mention this because I believe that a professional in this business should realize that the appearance of his or her own hair is important. I purchased two vouchers from Living Social for Keratin. I gave one to my daughter, who has had keratin and is familiar with the process. Normally, after a keratin treatment, hair is silky smooth (after it is flat ironed). My daughter's hair was a frizzy stiff mess. She had her hair trimmed the day before, so "dead ends" were not to blame. And the smell was horrible-not what keratin normally smells like. She was too shy and terrified to say anything, like "STOP!"" She has learned her lesson. After sobbing the whole way home, she immediately washed the solution out of her hair, and two days later was still trying to wash out the weird smell. I do not think that the "stylist" had any idea how to flat iron hair. I immediately asked for a refund on the unused voucher, and after MUCH discussion, living social gave a partial refund (on the used voucher) because of the awful experience. I wish they would do site visits, because I am certain that they would not have featured this establishment if anyone had actually seen the place. I am giving one star because they system doesn't have a zero star review option. I called Lisa's Classic Cuts and spoke to someone about the experience. She was polite and promised to speak to the owner and get back to me. I waited a few days before posting this; no one from the "salon" followed up. read more
