What a relief I found this place. My hair has been fried by several bad bleach jobs (not here) in the past, so I'm VERY cautious now as to where I go. I came to Lisa Dinh Hair Studio to get my blonde hair retouched and toned (double process) with Peggy. Peggy was absolutely amazing and a fantastic listener. She took note of what my concerns were, acted accordingly and erred on the side of caution like I asked. She was meticulous in working tiny section by section. She was also the only colorist I've been to so far that asked to see pics I brought several times to confirm the color I wanted. She would ask her fellow stylists for opinions/expertise when needed, which I LOVED. It really made me feel supported and comfortable with the salon team as a whole. I found Lisa Dinh Hair Studio through Instagram as well as through the recommendation of many friends. Upon scrolling through their Instagram, i was very Impressed with their work and decided to book a session with Mimi. I chose Mimi because every photo i clicked on Instagram was done by Mimi so i felt that she could be able to execute what I wanted for my hair. Initially, i wanted to do a global ash brown, but upon consulting with Mimi, she suggested to do a more dimensional highlight due to global styles are very high Maintenance which wouldn't suit my busy schedule. I trusted her as she was the expert and i was not disappointed! I truly loved how it turned out and couldn't have asked for anything better. It blended super well with highlights to add a little dimension. The whole process took around 4.5 hour as i needed to bleach my hair. Mimi was super particular and precise with my highlights and i really felt that she was an expert at her field. She was attentive and nice, and i felt comfortable the whole duration. I booked an appointment with Nicole to do balayage highlights and haircut and she did an amazing job. I arrived a little early and was standing outside and one of the girls actually came out and invited me in. My temperature was checked and COVID protocols were taken. I had an idea of what I wanted but wasn't exactly sure how to explain it, I showed Nicole some inspiration photos and she immediately explained what would be done. Nicole was very efficient but meticulous. She made sure every strand was bleached evenly (no joke she literally stood there and picked at each strand in the foil). I had previously bleached my hair so my ends were coming out darker then my virgin hair but Nicole fixed it! As for results I am very happy. My hair Has so much dimension and I loved how it didn't turn out super blonde or super dark! I've been to other salons where they told me they can't achieve ash blonde in one session and I still paid hundreds to do it only for it to turn out brassy. So I feel the price I paid was justified. My hair does not feel super damaged like it did at other salons after bleaching. The environment felt like a bunch of girl friends chatting and I felt very comfortable. Solid 3.5. Came here a while back to have my hair dyed to a chocolate brown. We discussed a few pictures and finally agreed on the reference picture attached - a warm chocolate brunette, as I did not want any blonde in my hair. I explained that I previously had ombre blonde hair two years ago and it was a nightmare having to deal with the maintenance of purple shampoo and brassiness. The process took almost 5 hours. It's never fun having to sit in the salon for this many hours, especially through lunchtime. I watched Netflix on my phone when I could but it was definitely on the boring side. There was not much conversation going on either but that was both on me and the stylist. After the dyeing was complete, I was not blown away by how my hair looked. Honestly, it didn't look any different unless I was in a natural lighting but even then it was a subtle effect. Before I ever started dyeing my hair, it was always naturally dark brown at the roots and goes lighter away from the roots (as a result of sunlight) so I guess there was not much change involved in the first place. The first pic shows my hair a few hours after dyeing and to many people, they didn't notice a difference. A few weeks later, my hair started lightening (I suppose the dye settled in finally?) but it was now more of a golden, blonde brown than chocolate brown I was aiming for? No lie, the colour is still pretty but not exactly what I wanted. It's been a few months now and my hair is still more of a blonde brown. read more

I went for a consult for a color correction (from blond to red with highlights). Also I wanted a LOB cut with layers. The 'expert' consulted and said he felt uncomfortable and suggested I go elsewhere. This 'expert' was advertised as a top colorist! He also said if he took me on it would likely take a full day (unheard of - 3 hours max!). Untrue advertising. PLUS - they make you lie down flat to get your hair washed! Unheard of. I've been looking for a salon to fix my hair for the past year. I've gotten numerous recommendations from friends/colleagues but nothing caught my eye until one of my colleagues recommended Lisa Dinh. I stalked their instagram and was in love with what I saw. I didn't have a preference for a stylist because they all seemed AMAZING. I booked the soonest weekend appointment I could get with any stylist. When the morning of the appointment came, I got a call saying my stylist was sick, however, Lisa and her assistant Rian would be available to do my hair. My hair was previously dyed brown and has since grown out a lot and it turned brassy/super orange. They both did an outstanding job and rescued my hair! Rian began with a consultation and assessed my hair. They really listen to what you want and will tell you what's achievable. I told them I wasn't comfortable going too light. I'm pretty low maintenance/lazy and I wanted something natural but with dimension. They did a colour correction, toned it, added lowlights, blowdried and styled it in 4 hours (it honestly went by so fast!) My total before tip was $339. Although Lisa did my hair with Rian, my appointment was with a new talent stylist and Lisa honoured that pricing. I was so happy with how my hair turned out and when Lisa showed me a picture of my hair, I was shocked and couldn't believe that it was really my hair! I've gotten so many compliments; I'm addicted and I can't wait to return in a couple of months and go even lighter! Atmosphere: It's sleek, modern, and busy in there. You can tell that the girls are like one big family. They joke, they laugh, and they have fun while maintaining professionalism and quality work. Lisa, as the owner, is also very hands on with the work - wiping down mirrors, sweeping hair etc. She's always checking up on the girls and clients just to see if everything is going well. I've been to more than a handful of salons and this is the only one I can completely trust with my hair! At my consultation I was told that I would most likely need two sessions to achieve the colour I desired. Surprisingly, my stylist (Kathy) somehow managed to do it in one - she ended up doing an amazing job and my hair came out looking exactly how I wanted! I've bleached my hair multiple times and I expected the damage (as per usual), but this was the first time my hair came out looking healthy and STAYED healthy. I did eventually have some dryness near the ends of my hair, but nothing a quick trim + hair oil couldn't fix. If you do plan on getting your hair bleached, I highly highly recommend adding the Olaplex treatment. You can tell the stylists here really do want what's best for your hair - they provide realistic results by looking at your hair's quality and history. The price is definitely on the higher side, but you really do get what you pay for. If you're willing to sacrifice more money for fabulous hair this is the place to do it!! read more

I could hardly believe the magic that Lisa has worked on my hair. She was personable, knowledgeable, and a consummate professional of her craft. As all bleach lovers know, our hair has been through the gamut of abuse. Sometimes it's bad decisions (like choosing a chunky set of highlights that totally clashed with our roots or a box dye), sometimes it's the lack of care (like not using purple shampoo), and sometimes it's just that we crave that perfect colour. And boy, did we also like chasing after that elusive grey. So with about 4 bleach jobs in my hair, Lisa had her work cut out for her. And she pulled through. Seriously, see the picture, the blending is perfect. Big kudos to Lisa, who sacrificed her Thanksgiving eve to make sure that I came out glowing. I had been looking at Lisa Dinh's team's work for a while and contemplated for months on whether or not I should book an appointment. I took a vacation week and was hoping that I could slip in an appointment sometime, but the Mindbody app indicated that all stylists were booked up for the next several weeks. I told myself that if I could snag a cancellation appointment, I would go for it and not wait any longer. Fortunately, once I emailed the studio, Nga was very helpful and she booked me in with the stylist that I wanted, on the last day of my vacation week. Once I got into the studio, I met Lisa and she welcomed me in. I brought along my sister as well and Lisa was kind to bring over a chair and a glass of water for her. Soon enough, I met Kathy (my stylist) and she began to work magic into my hair. Throughout the 5-6 hours that I was in the studio, I had amazing conversations with both Kathy and Lisa. When Kathy had another client, Lisa jumped in to continue the hair dying process. When Kathy returned, she cut my hair and was attuned to what I wanted. From the colouring to the cutting, Kathy always ensured that I was satisfied with what she was doing. She asked for my opinions, gave her own, and made adjustments accordingly. Dying my hair professionally and getting a blunt cut were all new (and daunting) to me, but I felt that I could trust Kathy and her expertise. At the end of it all, I love the final product! I found out about Lisa Dinh's Hair Studio from the numerous Instagram posts of ladies satisfied with their hair colouring. After my last disaster at a different salon, I had to give them a shot. I was originally booked with Lisa, but her availability takes months to open up, so I went with Sam. At first, I was skeptical in whether or not she knew how to treat Asian hair, but she knew exactly what she was doing. I asked to go grey - I already had twice bleached hair from months ago. Sam made some recommendations which all made sense in my head, and she went at it for 5 hours, and I LOVED the results. Sam was also really sweet to pick me up a bite from Starbucks because I didn't have time to eat before my 5-hour session. She's the best! I love that they are very realistic about the colour fading within two weeks, and they refuse clients who have box-dyed hair or severely chemically treated hair. These girls take pride in their work! The only complaint I have is their hair washing techniques - They blast cold water without testing it on their own palms first. I was alarmed several times, and it would be nice not to have it splatter all over my face (maybe invest in a face cover?) The balayage highlights costed me $260 and with Olaplex treatment ($35), a cut ($50) and tip, my total was around $440. It might be pricey, but hey, the value is definitely there. read more

After having a bad experience in another salon earlier in the year (note my other review LOL) my bf got me an appointment with Lisa Dinh! My hair before was over processed, banded and pretty brassy.. You can tell Lisa knows what she is doing and she warned me before starting that my hair was very damaged and we might now be able to achieve the look I wanted. Nonetheless, my hair actually reacted pretty well and we finished my hair in about 4-5 hours! My hair has no yellow what's so ever and it is BLENDED like a dream! I am so happy I stumbled across Lisa's instagram page back in 2014!! Since then I have visited her home and new studio I think 5 times total for colour/cut and I am so so so glad I went through my hair journey with them. They're friendly, helpful, and I never felt rushed during the consultation process. I first did a balayage highlights with Olivia when I still had years of brown box dye in my hair, and worked up my courage to do a full on blonde balayage ombre with Lisa before leaving to study abroad. I was really shocked at how light the blonde was, so Lisa offered to tone it darker within the week if I didn't like it (but I ended up loving it!) When I came back, I did a touch up and toned darker with Olivia and have had touch up toners/haircuts with Samantha in the past half year as I transition back to my natural brown-black roots. Aaron is also great at assisting! I truly feel that no matter who I was able to squeeze in an appointment with, they all displayed amazing attention to detail and I am always thankful they are patient enough to deal with my super thick hair lol. It's pretty awesome to see their team grow over the years and I'm confident that all future salon staff will meet your expectations to the best of their ability. If you have a style in mind, make sure you have done your research and bring in examples for reference of what you want your hair to look like, as well as less "dramatic" back-ups in case that level of bleaching etc. just isn't possible for your hair. If they decline to do your particular request, just know it's the best decision for your hair health at this point! A tiny drawback for me is just how busy they are - book way in advance if you want colouring services but if you're just looking for a drop-in cut this is probably not for you since pretty much all of the staff specialize in colouring. read more

I had my hair cut and coloured by Samantha couple of weeks ago (Dec. 16). The Good: First of all, I loved how friendly the salon was. Everyone was welcoming. Samantha was also very nice and easy to talk to. Samantha did an AMAZING job with colouring my hair. I told her what I wanted (natural with some lighter brown highlights/balayage) and she did exactly that. She kept checking in to make sure that the lightening was going okay. She never complained about how much hair I had (I have lots of thick hair) and was very pleasant throughout the whole process. I have received many compliments when my hair is curled. The not as good: I wasn't as happy with my hair cut. I didn't realize how odd my hair looked from the back when it's straight till a week after my hair cut (when someone made a comment about it). I specifically requested for a hair cut that looked good straight or curled and right now, it only looks curled. Since she is the professional, I completely trusted her when she said it would look better more blunt and not thinned out so that I have more volume. And for most people that's probably true. But because I have straight and thick hair, my hair looks quite messy with the blunt cut. I will post a photo from the back. Also, my bangs are brighter in colour than the rest of my hair... I told her near the beginning that I like side swept bangs and also that I like having lighter colours to frame my face. I guess I should have clarified that that does noT include my bangs... April is an excellent colourist; professional, meticulous and explained the costs & steps and what would be achievable for my second session. I wanted a silvery/blonde dimensional balayage and the colour turned out beautifully! I would definitely recommend her and if I could I would give 4.5 stars. The only gripe I had is that the salon assistant who was blow drying my hair ended up also styling my hair and it didn't turn out well. I understand assistants can support with washing and blow drying hair but when I end up paying $400+ for a junior stylist I would expect the stylist to be the one styling my hair. I walked out of the salon with my hair looking like the photo and was feeling disappointed. If you follow Lisa Dinh on IG you see how other girls' hair are typically styled and this was not that. The colouring is gorgeous though and I'll definitely be going back, I would just ask that salon assistants either be properly trained in how to curl hair or have the stylist you pay for style it to complete the experience. read more

I've had my hair done by both Lisa and Olivia. They both do an amazing job, they work with you and if you have hair goals they help you achieve it, but are realistic. They never lie to you, and if they can't do something or it'll take multiple sessions they'll tell you. Which I think is great, because you need stylists who are honest with you. They ask new clients lots of questions on their hair history. Don't lie! Be honest! They can't give you what you want unless you tell them the truth! No more hair trauma when you go to Lisa Dinh! Lisa did a fabulous job listening to what I wanted and DID NOT want for my hair. She asked about my hair history, which I feel is super important in understanding how my hair works! I got a cut and balayage highlights. I wanted natural, but noticeable highlights. Lisa worked with my base so that I could have low maintenance hair. She bleached my hair (my very first time) and talked me through the process every step of the way. She was honest to say that bleaching hair would cause dryness, but gave products to use to help with that. She explained different hair lingo like ashy and warm tones pertaining to my hair. She was knowledgable and patient with my questions. She provided some names of shampoos that I should use to maintain the colour, with purple shampoo being a must. Lisa was social and easy to get to know. We spent 4.5 hours together and I felt very comfortable with her and her assistant, Jessica. Some Tips: - email Chau to see if you can get an earlier appointment. I initially had an appointment for Feb 2017, but I emailed and got an earlier appointment as I put myself on the wait list for cancellations. - bring pictures of the hair colour and cut you want. Lisa does a good job at replicating it and it provides a good reference point when speaking about your hair preference - bring food! An average appointment is 3 to 4+. You won't have time to go anywhere so be prepared! There's a loblaws across the street. Go before you head to your apt! Lisa does provide tea and water. - bring some reading material and/or a fully charged phone! It's amazing how well this place is run. This is not the average hair salon service you get at a mall. People at Lisa's Salon have so much passion and it shows on their work. Everyone seems to work as a team, learn/help from each other. It's true when they say "take care of your employees, they will take care of your customers". I had a great experience at Lisa's. Like many others, I contemplated for months on booking an appointment as I was used to lower prices in the town where I went to school. With that being said though, I absolutely love how my hair turned out! My stylist Sofia revived my gross and brassy grown out hair and helped me achieve the colour I was looking for. I showed her photos of the colours I liked and even though they were all slightly different, she was very in tune with what I wanted and my hair couldn't have come out more perfect! You can definitely tell that everybody is well trained at Lisa's and that they're worth their price point. I recently booked a bayalage at the studio during a weekday. It was my first time here and I was greeted warmly by the staff and seated quickly for my appointment. During the 15 minute consultation, Lisa was honest in letting me know that it would be more complicated than I thought since I had previously dyed my hair and it needed colour correction to achieve the look I wanted. Also, with the processing, there was a chance my hair would need to be trimmed to save the ends (which were already dry from previous colouring at a different salon). Everything was explained thoroughly and they checked in on me frequently. The teamwork here was great; April and Yorsiny also helped me colour/dry my hard-to-tame hair. In total, it took 6.5 hrs from start to finish but the results were so worth it! I opted in for the treatment, which helped save my hair and left it soft and shiny (definitely recommend). I didn't even need to chop off my ends! I was very impressed by the professionalism displayed and the passion they had for clients. Will definitely recommend and return in the future! I am writing this review for my second visit to Lisa's salon. On the first visit I saw Lisa and it went great. This review is for my balayage with Olivia. I feel bad writing this review because I don't think that my being unhappy is a result of malice or negligence, but simply her shortcomings in this area. Firstly I am Caucasian and I have naturally dirty blonde hair, that already had some grown out highlights from Lisa. My hair lightens super fast and has an ashy undertone, so I have the ideal hair for this process. I asked for a lot of balayage to achieve a blonde overall look. I showed her the picture below. What she did is the other two. Not only was the color not right but the application was so poorly done that it has a straight line. That day was very busy for them and she was simultaneously working on other clients. She had a guy assistant check on my hair and wipe my highlights when he thought they were done which is not right because I was paying for a senior stylist . It was very very rushed, my blow dry was a joke. They booked me in right away for a correction and I believe she made an effort to correct it, but to blend it better she added soooo much toner my hair is brown on top. Finally I just gave up. My hair is bad I'll just keep it tied up... I think it'll fall out if I do it again and Lisa is booked months in advance. The cost was $230ish the first time. read more

I know it's hard to believe, but I'm not a natural blond. I come here for my hair colouring needs! I've been coming here for over a year and a half with Olivia as my stylist but my last two appointments have been with Aaron and Sam. This is because I procrastinate booking an appointment until I feel like it's time for another bleaching session and by then, Olivia is fully booked up. Normally I would wait until Olivia has a cancellation but for my last two appointments, I was going on vacation and needed my hair done asap. Having my hair done by multiple stylists, I can say that everyone is talented, very knowledgeable, and friendly. They also work together as a team, are always quick to help each other out, and everyone (stylists and customers alike) seems to genuinely enjoy being in the salon; I know I do. The only negative thing I have to say is the wait times. Everyone is booking 3+ months in advance and Aaron is still training and only books a limited number of appointments each month. But there are ways to expedite a booking such as contacting the Admin Assistant Chau to be put on a wait list for cancellation. One last thing, please request for Aaron to wash and tone your hair. He's very gentle and gives an amazing head and neck massage! read more

I had my hair done with Sam at the studio and it was a pretty awesome experience! Everyone is really friendly in the salon and even though I'm pretty shy, I ended up chatting with them :) my hair looks gorgeous and I can't thank Sam enough for the unicorn hair. (Dyed it a grey/pink mix) Sam was great - she asked me about my hair history and then went over how she'd be doing my hair. Not only that, she would explain each step as she started them and I really loved that. She offered me tea/water many a times which was sweet and even offered to help pick me up some food since I hadn't eaten that day :) One thing I particularly love about the studio was that it was really clean and designed very nicely. Not only that, the salon wasn't packed. Even though they are always booked up, they really care about their clients and try to ensure that quality is given for each one by ensuring they aren't booked to too many different people. I've been too many salons and half the time the stylist is working on 3 other girls/guys so this was really a big surprise! I love that everyone seems so down to earth :) Everyone also has really great looking hair their which is always a good sign I personally think! I kept staring at Lisa because her hair colour was just so pretty! Aaron assisted and he was really friendly as well! Styled my hair really nicely and the head massage was Overall, my experience was a really good one. I went in with high expectations and came out very satisfied. Normally I come out of the salon feeling disappointed but this was the one time I didn't :) I just wish I could snag appointments easier :( either way, don't hesitate to book an appointment! read more

After years of stalking Lisa on Instagram (@lisadinhhairstudio) and seeing her share her work/hair transformations online, I was finally able to have a hair transformation of my own! I've wanted to color my hair with Lisa for such long time so when I heard that she was opening her own salon in Toronto I was super excited! I immediately booked my appointment online around February and to my surprise Lisa was already booked for almost 3 months! I decided to wait it out and booked a balayage ombre session with her for early May ...and let me tell you SHE IS WORTH THE WAIT. Lisa was super nice and friendly upon my arrival to the salon. Before she started coloring my hair she asked me about my hair history (ie. previous dyes/box dyes) and what I wanted to do with my hair. She was really easy to talk to and thoroughly listened to what I wanted. To make it easier for her, I also showed her some pictures of the color I wanted! My main goal for the session was to get rid of my brassy ends and get it as light and ashy as possible. My general expectations for the session was quite low. My hair was quite damaged and I had Asian hair so I thought the lightest I would see my hair after the blow dry would be a nice caramel/brown ombre and that I would need a couple more sessions before I could achieve a nice ashy tone....but Lisa surprised me and exceeded my expectations!!! Lisa worked her magic and got me to beautiful ashy tones!! I was so pleased and happy with the results I couldn't believe my eyes!! The difference from the before and after is huge and I am ever so grateful for Lisa. The session took about 4 hours because I had shorter hair. Overall, I would definitely recommend Lisa. She is very professional and knows exactly what she is doing. I have received so many compliments on my hair and have told all my friends and family about her salon and they have looked into booking with her and the other stylists. Lisa is the best in Toronto and she will be the only one I trust with my hair. I will definitely be a long time client and be coming back :) read more

I got my hair done by April yesterday, and I'm absolutely in love with my balayage! When I got there I showed her a photo for inspo and she did exactly what I would have hoped for and even better. My colour was the perfect ashy blonde I'd wanted and perfectly blended with no streaks. The staff at the salon were also very friendly, including Lisa, who spent the time to properly engage with all her clients throughout my stay. I had even noticed that the other stylists were helping each other out and offering advice on colouring. I would definitely go back! read more

I really wanted to love this place after researching so many hair salons and their portfolios. When I got there, no one was around to greet me. After awkwardly sitting down, I waited for Olivia to come - I showed pictures of subtle balayage but she said I should go for something lighter. I insisted I did not want to look like the typical brunette blonde - anyway, at the end it looked like that. I still trusted her because she is the professional here. During the process, I felt she wasn't friendly and brushed my hair very roughly - to the point where my hair was elasticky and breaking. We all know that our hair's at its weakest when it's 1) wet and 2) after chemical processing. Lisa helped brushed out my hair as well but she was definitely gentle and patient with my hair, taking her time and not yanking out knots. In the end, I wasn't happy with my colour, so Olivia ended up putting a toner on for a bit and I left with happier colour but with broken hair. I know that this salon has a policy where you can go back and have them fix anything you want free if you're not satisfied, but I didn't want to risk getting my hair in even worse shape. Oops I almost forgot to mention, my hair went back to being light after 2 weeks...... I did not brush my hair for atleast 2 weeks, especially when it was wet, any slight tugging would rip the strands. To be honest, i was really scared. I had to do hair treatments every day for the next 3 weeks and lots of olaplex at another salon, and had them correct my hair colour as well. I regret to write this review and I know some ppl have their bad days at their job, but if you're passionate about your work, your mood shouldn't get in the way of quality work. I warned many friends from coming here thereafter and suggested the other salon which actually fixed my hair. ------------------ Thanks Lisa, I appreciate your feedback. During the consultation, I was asked when it was the last time I had my hair coloured. I get annual straightening perm done followed by hair colouring and highlights for many many years now. I did not mention the perm because I was i) not asked about it, and ii) it did not cross my mind that it would be an issue. Yes, it was a miscommunication, and I know these things can happen. Please understand that I didn't want to come back to fix my hair because I could not have taken another risk right before my wedding. I know you work hard at your shop and you want the best representation of it. I also really wanted to believe that because it puts me at stake. Not only it's over priced , the people there don't really care about you, one stylist often working on multiple clients at the same time so they are not focusing on u at all. Paid for a senior stylist , but end up having a assistant do most of the job 97% of my hair was done by a assistant... And they don't know how to do hair cut so if u want a cut ?
