Combo 20: eggplant in garlic sauce and chicken fried rice
    S L.

I came here tonight with two of my friends and we were glad Li's was open until 12AM. My friends had come here before but it was my first time. The interior looked really small with about 6-7 tables in the immediate front but there was a closed off section in the back because it was so late at night (so there are more than 7 tables!) We ordered two orders of the combo 20 (eggplant in a garlic sauce and chicken fried rice), one order of combo 12 (sweet and sour chicken balls, lemon chicken, and chicken fried rice), two egg rolls, one substituted egg roll to a spring roll (for 25 cents), and we all had the hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup was neither hot or sour to me. It was still good but it wasn't what I expected. I'd recommend going to Thai Lanxang or New Kirin Eatery for hot and sour soup. The eggplant here was tasty and thankfully not soaked in sauce. I was pleasantly happy with that and the fact that they offered it as a combo meal (most Chinese restaurants only offer the basics like chicken balls, soo gai, etc. and not other meals for combos.) I was also given a good portion of chicken fried rice! I finished my entire meal even though I wasn't extremely hungry so that was really good. It's $9.95 for combo 20 and other restaurants do give you more for your money but I didn't mind paying for less rice (but it wouldn't hurt if the price was a little less maybe $9 for less rice.) I mean I could pack it to go but I usually like finishing my meal at a restaurant. If I want more, I'd order another meal altogether. I'd come here to try something else but it really is out of the way of where I live.

Fresh and steamy hot. 4/5 stars

I went here to eat with my family and the workers were very friendly. The interior was a bit outdated and dark, but the food made up for it. The food was delicious as we ordered the chicken and salty fish eggplant pot. It was not too salty and had lots of flavour unlike other restaurants who fail to make this dish yummy. The food tastes fresh and are steaming hot when it is brought out. The prices are a bit on the pricier side for dinner time, but overall I would recommend this place for yummy Chinese food;)

I really enjoyed the Chinese donut wrapped in rice noodle (cheung fun with youtiao) , that was probably my favorite dish. The congee had good flavor, but the meat in it tasted a little old. The siu mai were huge and definitely hit my craving. The har gow wasn't anything super special, but still decent. The chow fun was good, just could've used a bit more flavor. I also liked the black sesame balls for dessert, and I always enjoy black bean spare ribs, which were solid here too. Service was great, the young girls working there were very nice and attentive. Overall, a good, convenient dim sum spot especially if you're coming right across the border. Atmosphere felt like a homey Chinese restaurant.

We settled on many different types of dishes, and were impressed with all of them. When the beef had come out, it was still sizzling on the hot tray, which was nice to see. The beef was tender and delicious, along with the chicken, which was crispy on the outside (a nice touch). We also settled on stir-fried rice, stir-fried noodles, and green beans with beef; all of these dishes were also well-prepared and tasty. The restaurant itself was quite small however, it wasn't too crowded, which made our stay a pleasant one. Servers came over to greet us and bring our food in a timely manner; overall, a great place for authentic Chinese cuisine, with delicious food and good service.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.

You can get $2 Stroh's, $4 Kirin draft, and 20oz Sapporo bottles for $6. The food and service were great. The only reason it's not 5 stars is becuase there is no food on their happy hour menu. Other than that m, it's a cute Detroit inspired fusion and fun to eat there.
