Back in the day, there were several options for dim sum in Windsor, Canada. The currency exchange rate also made the trip across the Detroit River worthwhile. Fast forward to after the pandemic, and not only has it become expensive to traverse the bridge or tunnel, but the provincial taxes and stronger Canadian dollar have made it less attractive to dine in Ontario. Jade Chinese Cuisine is one of the few places left in Windsor that specialize in dim sum. They used to be located on Wyandotte Street which is one of the main drags parallel to the river. Now the restaurant has relocated to a suite at the Ambassador Plaza on Huron Church Rd. Our family came for a weekend lunch and surprisingly, there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for a table. The seating capacity was sufficient for at least 60 customers so for the business to be packed on a Sunday was good for them. Push carts were available, but instead of roaming around the dining room with items, they were used only to transport food to tables when their order was ready. A menu slip to mark which dim sum we wanted was given to us. The offerings were pretty basic with about three dozen choices. Prices were $5.25 (small), $6.75 (medium), $7.75 (large), and $9.99 (special). The hot tea charge was $1.50 per person. After taxes, gratuity, and the exchange rate, the dim sum cost was still cheaper than where I currently reside. We ordered the following... * Lotus Wrapped Sticky Rice * Shrimp Dumplings (har gow) * Pork Shiu Mai * Chicken Feet (fung chow) * Beef Balls * Bean Curd Rolls with Oyster Sauce * BBQ Pork Rice Rolls * Pan Fried Stuffed Eggplant The first and last items stood out for opposite reasons. The sticky rice was the worst I have encountered in a long time. After opening the lotus leaves, the rice fell apart which should not happen for "sticky" rice. The plate for the stuffed eggplant was filled with gravy which kept the product warm and moist. The ladies who brought our food were nice and could speak fluent English and Cantonese. It has been years since I visited this part of Canada so it was nice to see familiar surroundings again. With the time and cost it takes to cross the border and return, I would save the routine for once or twice a year at most. For the food quality and cost, I gave our dining experience at Jade Chinese Cuisine a three star rating.

First time here in Windsor and wanted to try out dim sum. Found this restaurant and surprisingly we're still able to order dim sum at 3:15. No cart service but I don't know if that is the case on the weekends. They had a good variety of dim sum to choose from. Not the most pretty looking but it tasted fine. We were impressed with the sesame balls which was crunchy and had sesame filling in it (the ones we've eaten before have red bean paste). The decor was simple and service was efficient.

Visited from Detroit with friends and the food was really delicious. The beef soup was to die for! Perfect for date night or just casual. Everything tasted homemade and very comforting. Will be coming back!

We decided to cross the US/Canadian border from Detroit to Windsor, just to try this restaurant. My husband read somewhere that it was so good that people would bring their relatives from China here. Would I agree with that assessment? It's a bit of an exaggeration in my opinion, but it was good and service was fast. There were Asian people in the restaurant, which says to me it's good. We did not order from the regular menu, so I can't tell you about portion size or taste. The dim sum plates that we ordered came with 3 pieces per plate. The pork shiu mai had 4 pieces. Everything tasted good, like in a Chinatown restaurant. It is not fancy inside, no table cloths. We did have to ask for chopsticks.

This is the new location after the old location closed. Smaller place but still yummy food. There still is a dim sum menu although I haven't yet ordered from it. We typically always get the Szechuan chicken which has just the right amount of spice and flavor. Big enough to share! My husband usually gets an egg roll too that he always likes. Quick service as your meal arrives not long after placing your order. We love ordering from here.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
