a table and chairs in a restaurant
    Ian C.

I want to like this, but there were just a few flaws that if different would make it better. Atmosphere/Cleanliness- The inside is okay, very basic and fairly clean when I went with my friends. The tables were also a bit sticky, but could have been from previous groups as seating is like a normal fast service place where you seat yourself and your own choosing. The restroom, which is part of the rest of the building, needed a little work, but it was a weekend, so probably hadn't had work yet for the day or weekend. Service- The service could have used some work as the two employees acted like I was pulling teeth when I came in with a few people for lunch on a Saturday about 1. The place was empty so could have just been timing and or a bad day. Food- The lip salad was very blah. A couple pieces of chicken with lip sauce and some very bland lettuce salad mix. I didn't expect a great deal of freshness, but tasted like salad you'd get at McDonald's. Also, the chicken was okay, but the breading/batter came off, not the best appearance or look for chicken like this. Price- Prices are okay. For what you get, not bad, but could be more. Been to the Chicks location in Macomb and it is more bang for your buck (granted it is nicer and more of a sitdown/bar setting).

So this is a scenario that you fall in love with what one grows up with. However, you give me two chicken lips every time I come back to the hometown area, and I am always 100% satisfied. My sister in law ordered the chicken lips pizza, but I was too full to try. The chicken lips never disappoint. Btw: we got them to go.

I had been looking for some good buffalo chicken in SE Iowa and I found it! 2 really good sized strips and perfectly cooked seasoned waffle fries filled me up and the heat level was just right on the chicken lips. Do not forget the bleu cheese dip...it is outstanding. Well worth the drive over from Mt Pleasant!

I dont think it was too bad as he didnt mention anything after that. Price wise, you are looking at $12 to 20+ for lunch depending on what you are looking for. The drake specializes in bbq type items, and they used to have duck and similar game-type items which is where i think the name of the restaurant came from. When you go by there is usually a smokey smell coming out. I got the chicken hoagie that has buffalo chicken and peppers, onions etc. I probably would have gone for a burger but didnt see a lot of options other than the angus which seemed pretty high. I went with baked beans and blue cheese dressing. The wait for the food seems normal for a sit down place. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. The blue cheese dressing was the bomb. Big chunks of cheese, which couldnt have been out of a bottle thats for sure. Beans were good and sandwich was fresh and good. The only thing i would critique is the chicken could have been a little crispier, but when the chicken is in buffalo sauce, that is going to reduce the crispiness automatically so kind of the nature of the beast. The waitress did a good job of getting us the bill and taken care of there. If they could maybe get the price down a little and incorporate some more burger options, that might be a way to pump up business a little more. Didnt use the bathroom but based on overall cleanliness I saw, I bet they were fine.

I paid in cash and I had to ask for my change 3 times, everyone else from my party was waiting outside at that point. Because it took so long for them to take our order, they not half of us were able to get the happy hour drinks.

Review Visit: August 14th, 2017…read more Welcome to Broadway! There will be singing! There will be antics! There will be comedy/tragedy! Actually, I saw none of those things on the menu. If you are looking for a play, this place is not for you. If you are in for a nice pub/restaurant that has delicious food and great customer service, then this is the place for you. Stopping by here after a fun-filled day in Burlington was a fantastic idea. While browsing a list of places to eat, The Broadway showed up on Google and the photos of the food looked fantastic. So we entered the address into my GPS and hit the gas pedal. Upon getting there, I noticed that there was a cafe side. I didn't get the chance to see inside the cafe, but the idea of a cafe attached to a bar/grill is cool and very unique. I am sure that can lead to some pretty situations. The interior of is pretty nice. It is a bit of an upscale place without the upscale prices or the feeling of being under dressed. If you have ever been to Buffalo Wild Wings, then this place will feel really familiar, but with more local sports teams on the walls. After being seated and given menus and drinks, my friend and I locked eyes on the same delicious sounding burger right away. The BBQ Double Stack! So we placed an order and waited. What we thought would be a short wait for the food ended up being a super short wait. The food came out after maybe 7 minutes... and when they were placed down in front of us, our mouths were anxious to start chomping on the delicious-looking burgers. Upon sinking into the burgers, we knew with the first bite that these may have been the best burgers we had all year... maybe even Top 5 Burgers. Yes, these burgers were that good. My friend's sweet potato fries came with some cinnamon butter that was absolutely delicious on fries. To stop myself from raving about these burgers, I will wrap this up. Maybe if I ever get to re-visit, I can check out the cafe side. Also, if you ever find yourself in Burlington/West Burlington and want... nay... NEED a good burger, then make your way to The Broadway and thank me later on how happy your taste buds will be. Fin.

My only real baseline for comparison in this area is Happy Joes, and I was expecting the buffet price to be about the same price. I was surprised to see the price at around $16 plus expected tip starting at $5? and up. HJ is somewhere around $10 with the option of tipping what you want. I didn't see an option to choose a tip but maybe I missed it. In any case there didn't seem to be a lot of tippable things going on during my visit? Get your own food, sit down, and leave when done, so maybe its the dish clean up that happens later? The tipping is a whole separate debate of its own, so on to the food. I started with the salad bar and got some lettuce without really looking closely. Some olives on top, and then some cole slaw and macaroni salad. I then went to the pizza area and got a slice of what I thought was a margherita pizza, and one that looked like hamburger or sausage? The chicken looked really over cooked and I didn't really want a big piece so i chose a wing. Later on my 'go back' I got a piece of what I thought was sausage pizza but turned out to be chicken bacon ranch, along with another piece of what I think was the hamburger or sausage, since nothing new was brought out in the span of time I was there. I got a mountain dew with ice and found a spot to sit. It seems like the music is more toward country which isn't everyone's cup of tea so maybe diversifying that might appeal to a wider cross section of customers. Bathrooms are very clean. The left sink is motion activated and triggers simply by moving in the room. The paper towel dispenser is hard to trigger and gives you about a 4 inch wide, very thin towel that doesn't get your hands dry, so be prepared to fiddle around with it or have semi-wet hands. I must say the Diet Mtn Dew had a twang I couldn't really put my finger on. I would urge the staff to try their fountain pop, and then try the fountain pop at other restaurants along Roosevelt. I believe there is a noticeable difference, and I realize this is subjective, but there is a lack of freshness or maybe cleanliness of the machine going on? Again, a side by side from other restaurants might be a good way to compare if Pizza Ranch is looking for suggestions. Back to the lettuce, there wasn't a lot in the bowl I got mine from, but what I did get consisted mostly of the harder white parts of the leaves you find down toward the base of the head, along with the more yellow pieces that are likely found near the center of the head. There was one piece I think was the core. Aside from the bitterness of some of this, lettuce is kind of just lettuce one way or the other. I did not see any brown spots which was a plus. The coleslaw and macaroni salad was kind of mid, to me on coleslaw there are some like KFC that have the kind of taste that makes you want more, but both of these left me kind of like 'it's food'. The olives seemed like they were a little rubbery and seem like what you would expect from canned olives. I realize we don't live in the Mediterranean so that is what it is. The overall feeling I had on the salad bar was that it had been sitting and I was getting what was left after a lot of other people went before me. I looked when I left and didn't notice anything new or added since I got there. Pizza: What I am calling the margherita pizza sort of looked like one but had a white sauce that threw me off. The toppings on this came off in one piece, which i think is due to the pizza being cooked hot enough to firm up the toppings a little too much while the sauce below stayed liquid enough that the toppings slid off. My main thing was the pizza had the look of a conventional red sauce pizza but turned out to be something else that I am not in to (white sauce pizzas). The sausage type pizza was a standard type pizza but reminded me of convenience store pizza that has been sitting for some time. I ended up going back and got another piece of that because there just wasn't anything else to choose from except for the piece I thought was another sausage but turned out to be chicken bacon ranch. The chicken bacon ranch was just off to me in a weird way. I can and have been brought up to eat about anything/clean up my plate but my brain just sent the signal "this is not good, just don't eat it" on this one. There seemed to be something about it that just wasn't correct. So I stopped after one bite there. The sausage pizza was the main thing I ate during this visit, and was the pace setter for everything else which I must say is not a compliment. Chicken: This is what turned this trip to sub average to just plain bad for me. The wing was dry but OK so i thought a chicken leg could save the meal. I bit into it and the meat was completely RED all the way through! OMG!

I had been talking this place up to our team to let them know it was good food. This year was different, we had 2 hours between games so we thought we would go and order a pizza. We arrived at 5:30 and got our order in at the bar. Sitting and waiting, the bartender never checked on us or our drinks. 6:20, still no pizza. Finally a different bartender comes to check on us and we ask can you find out about our pizza? He comes out and brings the pizza and it's ice cold, he said it's been sitting back there for some time and no one ever brought it out. Now we have no time to wait for another pizza. He apologized even though he was not the bartender who took the order. Then the original bartender comes back over and fails to see the problem and never once apologizes. Just said he got busy. I get it, it happens. But they just left a pizza sit back there for 40 minutes and never thought hey someone might want that? The bartender could not understand why we were upset. And he was so defensive. I told the other guy I understand mistakes can happen but for him not to own up to it and be so rude to me after his mistake. I thought it was unacceptable. I had never felt so disrespected at a restaurant in my life. It really ruined the night, especially since we were looking forward to this for so long. Extremely dissapointed and it really did ruin the weekend. Hopefully this bartender can get it figured out and not be so rude to his next guests.
