$10.50 General Tsos Chicken Dinner Combo. Looks ok but it lacked seasoning, believe it or not lol
    Liz P.

Out of desperation, I called in a General Tso's Combination with Pork Fried Rice for $10.50 and I never tasted such a flavorless Chinese food before in my life. I don't know what it was, lack of soy sauce/salt?? It just tasted very bland to me. The General Tso's felt like it needed more heat and more soy sauce. The fried rice might as well be white because that's what it tastes like. I should've asked for 20 soy sauce packets because that's what was missing! This is why I pay them to feed me absurd amount of sodium, I shouldn't have to do it myself! Lol

My boyfriend and I were looking to try a new Chinese spot and deviate from you usual. I decided to go out on a whim and try this place despite the horrible reviews. It was really hard for me to decided whether 3 or 4 stars was appropriate. I'm giving them 3 stars because while some of the food was good, it seemed to be a hit or miss with some of the items. In addition to that, one of their menu items was priced incorrectly resulting in a hire spending amount but I'll get into that later. We ordered: Half Chicken with House Special Fried Rice (Tasted A-M-A-Z-I-N-G) Half Chicken (Again....flavorful) Crispy Chicken 7 Flavor (Tasted Great!) Thai Pad Thai (Horrible - They didn't even use Pad Thai Noodles and was on the dry side) Fried Squid in Chile Sauce (Meh - Fishy taste and not as spicy and flavorful as I had hoped, I guess the fishy taste overpowered the flavor. ~~TIP: DEFINITELY DO NOT ORDER THIS IF YOU'RE EXPECTING A FRIED CALAMARI TYPE DISH!!~~) With this purchase, we received a free 2-liter soda (mwnu does not indicate what coupons they offer). They are a bit more pricey than what I'm normally used too but if you stick with the usual stuff and nothing usual chinese spots DON'T have (i.e. Fried Squid, Thai Pad Thai) this place will definitely satisfy your taste buds! Just be aware, some items on the menu may be priced differently that what it says. i ran into this issue with the Squid. The menu said $8.25 but when I double checked with them, they said it was $10.75. When I told them what the menu said, they didn't offer to change it all they could say was "No, it's $10.75, the menu is wrong." So just keep that in mind. Also, there is only street parking so it could be hard to pick up an order. The service was slightly below average but that's usually how it is with most chinese spots. Other than the minor menu issue I had, overall, I would definitely come back here for the basics, not the Gourmet food suggested in their name.

This is supposed to be beef fried rice???

There were two reviews that gave this place one star. I now know why. Let's just say the best tasting item from what I ordered was the plain white rice that came with the chicken and string beans. If you're looking for food with no taste, then for sure this is the place to go. Will not be ordering from here in the future and stick to Neptune Cafe.

I had the shrimp and broccoli which was great. This place is always nice over the phone and they even have online ordering. Very convenient and fast with great quality!!

I tried the wonton soup only - I found it to be sub par - there was no pork to be found. It tasted ok but I have had better wonton soup.

The dishes are very unique in cultural sourcing - it's not what you expect of a regular Chinese restaurant. The servings are HUGE and good for 2 servings. The ambiance is not that great even though there's a big space and there was a lot of junk sitting around the place like extra stock of drinks and boxes all over the place. I don't think people really eat-in here. When I did takeout, it was still not worth the price of other similar restaurants in the area. Also this place doesn't have combinations sold together -- you have to buy rice on the side for EVERY dish which is not a traditional way to serve each dish in general. The prices here are not worth trying it - way overpriced and overcharged! Should be more affordable since we do not get the rice with the combination plates.

Pickled Cabbage & Chili, and Sichuan Spicy Cold Jelly. The Fish Fillet soup was definitely the standout. I absolutely love this dish and order it each time we go for Sichuan food. I really enjoyed the way 62 Secret Kitchen makes this soup. The broth was nice and tangy but the pickles still retained some of their kick. The fish was super tender and the soup was loaded with meat and vegetables. I also really loved the Black Truffle Fried Rice. The beef was really tender and the rice was so flavorful and comforting. I just wish the truffle flavor came through a little more! The Spicy Cold Jelly was just okay for me. It was brutally spicy without much other flavor. The Garlic Morning Glory were super yummy and not too greasy. The leaves were still perfectly crunchy. The inside of the restaurant is so nice and sunlit in the early evening. We sat by the window, which I found really romantic. I loved looking out to the sidewalk and watching people pass by. I also think the service was top notch. Overall we had an amazing experience at 62 Secret Kitchen and would definitely return.

They focus on sichuan and shanghainese dishes, but what really caught my attention was the FREE hanfu experience! It was pretty busy even on a rainy Monday, which says a lot about how popular it is in the neighborhood. It's located near Exchange Place/Grove St PATH! *Noodle w. Shredded Beef & Chili Pepper 小椒牛肉絲拌麵 $16 ** Their dry mix noodles totally exceeded my expectations! So saucy, perfectly bouncy noodles, and they didn't skimp on the bell peppers or beef at all. *Fried Bean Gluten 蘇式烤麩 $13 * My all-time favorite appetizer! The presentation was a little fancier than other spots, and the portion size matched the price as there were plenty of pieces of bean gluten. *Braised Abalone with pork Belly and Quail Egg 鮑魚元寶紅燒肉 $38 A "lucky dish" as abalone shaped like little gold ingots. The abalone was really tender, though I was hoping the pork belly would be melt-in-your-mouth. It came in a hot stone pot to keep it warm. The thick hongxiao sauce made me want a bowl of rice to soak it all up! *Tea-Infused Chicken with Mint 香茶薄荷葉香酥雞 $25 I could hardly taste the tea flavor in chicken, but the crispy mint really stole the show! The chicken stayed juicy and tender, and thankfully it wasn't too "yeet hay" after all lol. *Osmanthus Milk & Fermented Rice 桂花冰酥酪 $10 ** They've got many traditional, nourishing desserts, like pear soup, black sesame paste, and brown sugar fried sticky rice, but we went for floral and refreshing. The osmanthus and sweet fermented rice really popped in the milk pudding! Definitely save room for dessert.

A Decade of Love on a Plate: A Local Favorite That Punches Above Its Weight…read more This place is the definition of a neighborhood gem--the kind you almost want to keep secret, yet can't stop yourself from praising. Cheap and cheerful on the surface, it punches way above its weight class, delivering inventive, clean, Asian-inspired food that's masterfully cooked by clearly skilled hands--and made with real love. I've been coming back year after year for most of this restaurant's 10-year lifespan, and that consistency is no accident. Every dish tastes intentional, thoughtful, and deeply satisfying, with a clear goal: to feed people love on a plate. It's a super veggie/vegan friendly that easily wins over even my "meat and potatoes" husband--who happily cleans his plate every time. In an era where genuine hospitality feels increasingly rare, Perry single-handedly restored my faith that quality service is not extinct. Warm, attentive, and authentically kind, Perry makes every guest feel seen, welcome, and cared for--without pretense or attitude. This is food that nourishes, service that uplifts, and a place that keeps you coming back not just for the flavors, but for how it makes you feel. A true neighborhood treasure.

I've seen this restaurant circling my YELP for the last few months and put it on my "want to try"…read morelist. This place is absolutely solid! If you're looking for good flavorful food options, this has got to be on your "must try" list, I genuinely do not think you'll be disappointed. I ordered the blueberry lemon iced tea, maitake mushroom medley with the option of udon noodles & added chicken, the coconut curry with the option of ramen noodles and the rice pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. First things first, my absolute FAVORITE thing about this restaurant is the food contains no GMO's no preservatives, pink Himalayan salt to season and NO REFINED sugars- only agave and palm sugar to sweeten. I WISH I would've known about this spot sooner JUST for that detail alone. I am always on the hunt for a place that offers refined sugar free options, and with that comes this level of safety knowing what I am consuming has a heath standard/holistic approach to meet and me not having to feel guilty or worrisome after a meal. Absolute 10/10 in that aspect. I saw a few reviews mention the blueberry lemon iced tea, as someone not even a fan of lemonade I decided to give it a try. Let's just say, I was slow sipping my drinks to not finish it all and avoid getting another in the same sitting lol. It's well balanced, not sour, blueberry flavor is present and knowing it's sweetened with agave led to guilt free pleasure. Would recommend everyone to try it, even if you're not a fan of lemonade like I am. Another mention, lemonade tends to make my throat dry, due to its sourness and tanginess and that didn't happen at all. Think the blueberry was more prominent than the lemon, it was really enjoyable. The curry ramen was a highlight! If your a fan of curry, I think you def have got to try this. I actually didn't get it (my partner did) because I didn't wanna be let down, but it was absolutely delicious. I got the maitake medley udon noddles with added chicken and what a blast of flavor. It had veggies, mushrooms, chicken, udon, eggs, kimchi and was extremely flavorful. I was very surprised that each element of the dish had its own flavor and spice that really jumped out, but paired well together. The least favorite thing for me on this platter was the eggs. Just your standard egg, I'm a fan of soy-marinated eggs on my noodles and not a fan of regular boiled eggs, but they are always an added protein plus! One honorary note, is the kimchi. I like kimchi, don't love it, but this was the best kimchi I have ever had. I even ordered a side to go. Another cool thing is the food is cooked fresh, right in front of you. Tbh, we were the only ones in there at 6 PM and food took quite a while, but I appreciate and prefer freshness over quickness always. The rice pudding is light and the homemade refunded sugar-free caramel addition makes it so much better. As there were only two options of dessert on the menu (rice pudding & matcha ice cream) I decided to give it a go although I'm not really a fan of rice pudding. Was it amazing? No. Would I get it again? Possibly. This place was on the pricier side I would say. My bowl of maitake mushroom w/chicken (added chicken being a $6.50 dollar up charge) was $34. Worth it for that price point? Not really, but good none the less. I also ordered a small side of kimchi (the small clear containers) and that was $7 which I think is crazy, but also it was good. For a better price point, I might've asked for a jar lol. Customer service- the workers were nice, but not really personable, which I don't really care for much, but bringing this up because there was this sense that maybe I shouldn't be in there or they just possibly didn't want to work. I tipped nonetheless, but for being the only couple or people in there I thought we would be greeted by everyone, just a simple acknowledgement, but it felt more like we were bothering them by walking in. I understand that people have their days and you have no clue what someone is going through personally, but it was distinct enough to mention- especially as someone who never really comments on the customer service aspect. I see through it cuz the food was great! Something about it was also just a let down, but I can't put my finger on it. Although it was good, I don't see myself frequenting this place. Maybe the price point is deterring me, but I do think it's worth a try!
