Kendra is an absolute GODSEND!
I've had a few massages in San Francisco from massage therapists that studied in California and I've been disappointed. I love my city/state/etc, but after getting my massage from Kendra - I'm thinking they should up the number of hours required for licensing in Cali. Kendra studied in New York. To get licensed there - you must do the following:
"Certified Massage Therapist:
Complete coursework in anatomy, physiology, neurology, myology or kinesiology, pathology, hygiene, first aid, CPR, infection control procedures, the chemical ingredients of products that are used and their effects, as well as the theory, technique and practice of both oriental and western massage/bodywork therapy. Within the 1000 hours of education, you will have had to complete a minimum of 150 hours of practice on a person."
1000 hours!
I read on the California Massage Therapy licensing:
Certified Massage Therapist:
1. 500 education Hrs with 250 of those Hrs from an approved school.
2. A passing score on either the MBLEx or the NCETMB/NCETM and documented work history for at least two years.
3. Holds a current license or certification from a U.S. state or Canadian province with greater or equal requirements to CA.
250 hours from an approved school? That's 1/4th the amount of time.
I only say this because I want to emphasize the strength this woman has in her practiced hands! I left her table feeling incredible.
Her space is very nice. I prefer to go on the weekends or after 'business' hours because it's above a gym, but very very comfortable. She puts on whatever kind of music you like and doesn't try to get all hippie on you. (Something I really appreciate.)
She's also VERY reasonably priced.
5-stars, Kendra! I'll be back for sure. read more
