I've been out a lot this week, as it's Restaurant Week in Columbus. I meticulously plan for Restaurant Week, and Lindey's was at the top of my list for a visit (since I've heard so many great things about 'em, but hadn't yet tried 'em out for myself).
Sometimes, I set my expectations so high, that inevitably, my bubble bursts, and I'm left disappointed. However, there was no let-down with Lindey's.
Appetizer: Jamaican Jerk Duck Wings. The flavor. The sauce. The fat. Duck is extremely fatty, and this meat melted in my mouth. My fiance had the pork belly tostadas, and they were excellent, too (he understands that I have sampling rights to whatever he orders). For the main course, I ordered the "Cowboy Filet," a true Southwestern breakfast for dinner. It was a 6 oz. juicy filet, topped with an egg (sunny-side up), with "hash browns" on the side (it was a potato/sweet potato casserole w/peppers), buttermilk onion straws, and sauces. By sauces, I mean avocado puree (yes, similar to guac, but a bit thinner on the texture) and... chipotle lime hollandaise. I gotta tell you, you get a bit of that egg, with the steak (medium, of course--still red), dip it in each "sauce"-- heaven. I ate all of the potatoes and onion straws, but saved my steak (and egg) to take home. After all, I had to save room for dessert! I don't make a habit of ordering dessert when out (I don't need to purchase additional calories, I get enough each day, thank you), but... it's restaurant week! And dessert is included! One of the options was a peach crostata, which sounded amazing, but I was more in the mood for the root beer float creme brulee (whaaaa?). Creamy. Delicious. Amazing. My fiance doesn't like root beer (who doesn't like root beer?!?), so he couldn't try mine. After I finished the last bite, I ate some of his S'more Brownie Sundae. Dang. The marshmallows were charred perfectly.
My fiance had quail for his entree, which I did not sample. I did try some of his fingerling potato salad (heavy on the mustard-flavor, which I know some people like), and his side of jalapeno coleslaw. Boy, did that have a kick! Our server was beyond excellent. Sometimes, when I patronize finer dining establishments, I'm a bit intimidated by the waitstaff. (I was once corrected for my pronunciation at a fine French establishment, and though I've no doubt the server was correct, it wounded my pride. I took French in high school, for goodness sakes!). I don't appreciate condescension or hoity-toity attitudes. Our server was friendly, down-to-earth, yet extremely professional. He checked on us during the meal, but didn't hover. We were served our food in a timely manner, even though they were quite busy.
Lindey's, I look forward to visiting you again one day. I'll have to wait until after my wedding for fitness and financial reasons, though. Goodness knows the last thing I need right now is to spend $14 on a juicy, beefy, fattening cheeseburger, though I've no doubt it would be well worth it.
One additional note: In German Village, valet parking is a necessity, not a luxury. However, at Lindey's it was also complimentary. This was well-appreciated, as we would have had to walk about a mile otherwise. read more
