And the Berglund Performing Arts Theatre in the Center, with 2,150 seats, is one of my favorite places to go for entertainment in this City. Some might call it old, and some might call it small, but to me it's just perfect, since like wine, I feel its gotten better with time, and the community has gotten to know and appreciate it, as well as love it, because the performances played their have enriched their lives. This Holiday Season, as soon as the tickets to the Nutcracker went on sale, I made sure to purchase one ticket, for a front row center seat, to better appreciate the performance, since this year it's the 35th Anniversary of the Nutcracker being performed at the Berglund Center by the Southwest Virginia Ballet. This year it was being presented with a live orchestra, the Virginia's Blue Ridge Orchestra conducted by Dr. Wayne Gallops. And would have new choreography from the new Artistic Director, Laurence Blake. Sometimes when we talk about the Berglund Center, we don't realize that it is more than just the building structure, and we don't give enough credit to the employees and volunteer who play a great role in all of the performances there. They are one of the most welcoming, friendliest, and helpful group of individuals you can think of. This year I also got a VIP tour of the Center and since the day of this performance they were also having the parade downtown, I ended up receiving a personal tour and had the privilege of chatting on the stage with the founder of the Southwest Virginia Ballet as well as with the new Artistic Director of the Ballet. The Arts, in whatever form, is the soul of the people in the community. I highly recommend that you attend the performances here and give the Center and all those groups that perform here throughout the year, your total support. Because they enrich and bring joy to our lives, and by doing so, it gives meaning and a sense of satisfaction to theirs.

Took an old lady's iced tea because she didn't buy it here. Confiscate ANY product deemed suitable for human consumption. 3. The facility TURNS OFF the drinking fountains so you are forced to pay $3 for a 20oz bottle of water. 4. Concessions weren't open for early tournaments. 5. No HEALTHY food. 6. Dirty, FILTHY, disgusting courts. 7. And bathrooms! 8. No free WIFI

As this was the closest Chris Young came to our hometown in Charleston SC and we are up to try new new places, the 8 hour drive was nice; with little traffic the entire way. I do not know the seating capacity of this venue but would guess about 5-6k. We found getting in was simple; provided you come according to security protocol with little personal property. The drinks were reasonable priced at $7.50 per 16oz as were the tickets at $54 each. The restroom lines were a bit long but they supplemented with ports potties for those wishing to skip the wait. The seats were some of the best we have had for the price. The stage was supplemented with 2 large big screens off either side fed by at least 8 cameras that I counted. The sound was also good and balanced, compared to some places we have been. Overall, we will keep this venue on our radar for future events. Only drawback to this weekend getaway was that the town does not seem to cater to the events at this venue. When the concert ended, we could find several places to drink but no where within walking distance that offered food, with them saying the grills or the kitchen closed at 2200 or 2300.

I'm always concerned about where to park when visiting stadiums and arenas. Plus, I do not want to walk two miles. Well, we noticed most folks were parking on the streets and neighboring parking lots. We chose not to since we were unfamiliar with the area and didn't want to get towed during the game. So, I coughed up $20.00 for parking next to the stadium. Besides, the tickets were free. The size of the stadium reminded me of Missouri's Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field. It had a close-knit feel to it. The lines for food and drinks weren't slow, and the line moved quickly. We were both impressed. I believe we picked up water and two sodas for $12, and yes, they serve beer until the end of the third quarter. Also, the fans were friendly and talkative. Of course, I signed, "I'm Deaf," and all was good. The universal football talk is a majority of fist bumps and high-fives unless the team is horrible, and then, most folks exit left anyways. So, if you haven't visited Joan C. Edwards Stadium, please try it, and you might find yourself saying, "We are MARSHALL!"

This is one of the most exciting places to take in a college football game. When the Hokies…read morefootball team is playing well and the game intensity is at an all-time high, Lane Stadium is one of the loudest venues in the country. Being a Tech alum, I've attended plenty of games at Lane, and its environment is fun, welcoming and amazing. Although Tech fans want nothing more to see their Hokies win yet nearly all Hokie fans in attendance are respectful (and even friendly) towards their opponents (well, UVa may be an exception, haha). That vibe is contagious and it makes for an overall great experience. Lane Stadium can house 65,000 people - that's a lot! And when Metallica's "Enter Sandman" starts playing to signify the team's entrance it gets crazy. The entire complex is shaking because everyone is jumping up and down. I love it and I'm forever a fan just because of that. If you've never seen a game at Lane Stadium, and you're a college football fan, I urge you to do so. When I went to University in Virginia I did come out here once and thought, ooh, this is a big high school stadium. Which is really all it is, with 7,000 seats and not much happening here beyond High School football. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - I don't tend to visit high school stadiums, but I had a friend that went to school here years ago, so I came to see her team play with her. Then very recently I came back just for the sake of memories. It hasn't changed a bit. It's a nice stadium, nothing too amazing. Pretty small. That's what she said. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. The Virginia Swarm did play here but I've been swarm to secrecy about that and I've swarm not to even mention it. The Stagg Bowl is hosted here every year, so that's the claim to fame of the stadium. That's the championship game for NCAA Div III schools.

I'm not sure if the drag strip is a 1/4 or 1/8 mile, but you can see (and hear) it from the motor mile. Students get in free, everyone else is 10$. College students are included in the free. Food and beer is cheap, everyone is pretty friendly here. One note, there are not chairs or bleachers, so you'll be sitting on scaffolded concrete unless you bring in a folding chair, which many people do. Smoking is allowed since it's outside. Great place to be, just make sure when you're parking, that you can get out if need be. General (free) parking is on a huge hill.
