I always pictured myself going to WVU after graduating high school, and I do regret not going, but in the long run I guess it's kinda hard to leave home. I'm very excited about graduation and moving on to grad school. Overall Bluefield State is an excellent choice if you want to stay around the two Virginias.

The baseball park is a local favorite pastime. It is the home field of the Bluefield Blue Jays minor league baseball team. It was renovated back in 1975 and it seats approximately 3000 fans. The stadium was built in 1939 during the Great Depression and was rebuilt in 1975 after a fire. The seats were brought in from California. A local hometown favorite place to go this stadium brings many memories back for me watching the former team Bluefield Orioles play. Back in the day the team was the minor league for the Baltimore Orioles . Today it's the home of the Bluefield Blue jays.

Be very leery of this college. The IT department is HORRIBLE! The customer service is not much…read morebetter. Many concerns and complaints are ignored! The business department is useless. I have been charged for classes I could not take because of the lack of response. You are promised a netbook you never receive. Communication is less than poor! The only upside is that the professors will try to be diligent and work with you. However, when you are not provided help from the college itself, their efforts are in vain. Paperwork becomes "lost" even when communicated through email. I will be calling the accreditation council!

We pass it every other year on our Ohio/Pennsylvania vacations, and we always joke about visiting. This year we decided to give it go. We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed Wolf Creek. The staff is super friendly and our tour guide was exceptionally educated on the site, and you could easily tell that she enjoyed her job. This is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to spend 2 to 3 hours and learn fascinating Native American history

Notably, you might think that an underground mine would be open all year, but apparently there are still enough safety concerns that it is closed for a large part of fall and winter. This led me to check it out in a hurry before my opportunity disappeared for the year. After waiting in a museum outside the mine itself, a tour guide escorts you in for a tour on foot (they apparently tried and failed to do golf carts instead, and useless display screens from this experiment are still standing). This is a small section of mine that apparently was used specifically for display purposes for quite a while. The style of mining here was known to be both sociopathically cruel but also a major part of this country's internal development and its projection of power during war when coal was still king. In addition to these stories, there are also a number of fossils and other interesting sights. It is a small section of mine, and a tour with relatively few questions ran about 45 minutes. There's more to learn about the area and about coal than you could get in that time, but I certainly got enough detail in my tour to be worth the trip.

The Lincoln Theatre was opened in 1929 and its history is quite fascinating. My friends live in…read moreMarion and wanted me to see the local offerings. We went into the theater shop midday and they asked the lovely woman running the theater if we could have a tour? She was in the middle of getting ready for that night's Rocky Horror Picture Show, but in true sweet Southern hospitality, cheerfully let us in so we could look around and she could talk to us about the establishment. The theatre was lovingly restored in the 1980s by locals who turned it into a nonprofit. PBS broadcasts its Song of the Mountains show here monthly. The woman we spoke to was working on grants to bring in movies and other performances to the theater. It would be a great venue for all of the above. As I had an early flight home the next day, we didn't come back to see the show, but I truly believe this is a gem to be checked out in Marion.
