After hospital discharge and being up for over 24 hours I was told to come straight in for that original appointment. I was crying sitting in the waiting room and when taken back the nurse asked how my day was. I'm sure she didn't know, but they should make a note when a patient is visiting under those circumstances and get them back quicker instead of sitting amongst other patients and babies. I didn't even see the doctor, but the PA was great. The appointment was unnecessary, though. Visited a few months later for a yearly. Dr. Cropper was cold and unfriendly. I asked a few questions during my exam and she was short. I later found out because I asked about my miscarriage and health that was considered an "additional appointment" and charged. I've never paid for a yearly appointment and always been able to talk to doctor. At that appointment she also performed an exam without my consent. I was in shock because it wasn't something I'd ever experienced and I believe she could tell because she explained what the exam was for (after the fact). The exam was 100% unnecessary. I had just explained something in my health history that would confirm it wasn't needed so I have no idea why she did it. On top of all that, I asked about her being my doctor if I got pregnant again. She said no because I would be high-risk. For reference, I found another doctor and just had a perfectly healthy baby. For all of these reasons I definitely would not recommend Dr. Cropper.

Every time I visit, they make me feel warm, comfortable, and truly welcome. I previously had a very negative experience with the OB-GYN team at St. Jude Hospital. I understand that doctors see many different situations every day, but for many moms, especially first-time moms, everything feels new and overwhelming. Patients cannot be expected to have the same level of experience or emotional distance as medical professionals. Even when discussing difficult topics such as miscarriage, the doctors here explained that some situations can be medically common or normal, but they did so with genuine empathy and compassion. That made a huge difference. Instead of hearing cold or dismissive words like "we see this all the time," they acknowledged how emotional and personal the experience can be for patients. At this clinic, I truly felt understood and, most importantly, heard. That reassurance meant a lot to me during such an important time.

The entire visit felt transactional, like he was trying to get us in and out as fast as possible. He also asked me in front of my partner if I had an std in the past. Granted me and my partner share everything with eachother, the doctor doesn't know our dynamic . Typically, doctors ask these questions in private, either on forms or one on one time, to respect patient privacy and reduce embarrassment or discomfort. Pregnancy is an emotional and important time, and bedside manner matters. Unfortunately, this provider comes across as rushed, dismissive, and lacking compassion. I would not recommend him to anyone looking for attentive, patient-centered prenatal care. Safe to say, we are searching for a new doctor. Also, the front desk girl is very rude. After seeing four other OB-GYNs, he was the first to clearly explain my condition and help me easier to weigh the pros and cons. He is extremely patient, listens carefully and takes the time to answer every single question without rushing. Honestly, he's a rare find. I was also surprised and impressed that the clinic accepts credit cards and provides receipts in digital format. It's a very modern and up-to-date practice. They even have a well-designed website where I can view my appointment details and ask simple medical questions online. There was a specific lab/test I needed for my health, and Dr. Yu spent extensive time trying to get it ordered through UCLA. She was familiar with the test from having been in private practice, but went to extra lengths to be sure that I could receive the right test.
