I have been a fan of Grove Street ever since I moved to the area. I was looking for a place to…read moreservice my cars and was thrilled to find one so close by. Then I experienced their service and quality. Making an appointment is ridiculously easy. There's constant communication from them when your car is being worked on. They give you everything not only in writing but in an email that you can say if so you can plan future work. They help you know what needs to be done immediately and what can be deferred to another visit. That is almost unheard of. I'm so used to getting a high pressure sales pitch every time my car goes in. That doesn't happen at Grove Street. You're given a list and almost like a to-do list you receive things that are immediate concerns, things that can be deferred and things that are acceptable and already being worked on. They have loaner cars if you need them and they even offer shuttle service to and from your house. Everything is explained in advance and their prices are incredible. It's a great value. I've not had a bad experience and I've been there at least 20 times between my two cars. I can't recommend them enough

Chris was amazing and my technician William did incredible work. This was not an easy fix either. Mice had been helping themselves to my engine wires and everything else they could eat under the hood. As I told them, these guys were a Godsend and I have found myself a new auto repair service. Highly, highly recommended!!

We've given Caryville Garage multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately, the ongoing…read morepattern of misdiagnosis, poor workmanship, and lack of accountability has cost us significant time and money across two different vehicles. Our most recent issue September 2024 involved my current car, which failed inspection due to a check engine light. We had already told Caryville ahead of time that the code pointed to a failing catalytic converter. Instead of addressing that, they replaced the O2 sensors--only for the car to fail inspection again just a few days later. The check engine light came right back on, and after taking it to the dealer, we were told the brand-new O2 sensors Caryville installed had already been destroyed because the catalytic converter was the real issue all along. That entire visit was a waste, and while we were refunded, the situation showed that their diagnostic process is unreliable at best. This wasn't our first experience like this. In a previous visit March 2024, they broke our windshield washer reservoir while draining it. They claimed it was accidental, but it raised red flags about their care and honesty. And before that, the issues with my old PT Cruiser were even worse. That car was supposedly "rebuilt" by Caryville for the previous owner, which convinced us to trust them when we bought it. But in the little over a year I had the car, I sank nearly $2,000 into repairs--most of them at Caryville--and it just kept falling apart. From battery problems, to a belt that kept squealing even after they replaced it twice, to finally dying completely and needing both an alternator and battery replacement, it was a nightmare. We were told it wasn't worth fixing anymore and ultimately gave it up. Looking back, it's hard not to wonder how many of those issues were either misdiagnosed or outright caused by subpar work. We gave Caryville way too many chances, and in the end, all it did was lead to more stress and expense. We've since taken our business to Charlie's Tire & Service Center, and the difference is night and day. Jay and his staff are honest, straightforward, and actually get the job done right the first time. We've never had to second-guess their work or their word, which is more than I can say for Caryville. Bottom line: If you're thinking of trusting Caryville Garage with your vehicle, especially for anything more than an oil change, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. The damage done to both of our cars and the repeated lack of responsibility speak for themselves. We will never be coming back.

The first time I used Caryville Garage they did a good job. The second time was a complete…read moredisaster. During a wheel hub replacement, they had a difficult time getting the hub nut off. During the removal they damaged the axle shaft (see photo). The shaft is not an easy part to get for my vehicle. It took a couple of attempts and some time which was fine. I suggested an online vendor where the part would be under $100. They eventually charged me $795 for the part. I asked for a copy of the invoice from the parts dealer to see if I was grossly overcharged. They never sent it. They must have had something to hide. I guess the biggest issue I have, is that they took no responsibility for the axle damage and passed all the expense on to the customer.

Neighborhood Wrench (NW) told me I needed an engine and assured me that my 21 year old car was "In…read morepristine condition" and worth having it done, so I ended up agreeing to it. When I picked up my car, Doug gave me a invoice with extra parts that I paid for that were NEVER discussed with me and were working fine. Doug called me sometime later to see how my car was running. I thought that was odd, but I told myself he was just being nice and I told him it was running ok. A few days later, my engine light came on and it started running horribly. I thought I had developed another problem with my car. Some time after that, Doug called me again. The first time he called me I told him my car was running ok, so I thought it was really odd he was calling me again. I did not answer his call. I then discovered my car was misfiring on the #6 cylinder because they installed two #1 ignition wires on my engine, one on the #6 cap and plug that was also badly cracked. I had also put brand new plugs in my car right before I took my car to NW, and I also discovered that the plugs in my engine were burnt and rusted. They were not my new plugs. Have you ever had your car repair shop call you once after you picked up your car? How about twice? Is it possible that Doug was calling me because he was expecting my car to malfunction so he could have me bring my car back to him to "fix?" Doug said this is ridiculous. Is it? Doug wrote on my invoice that all new parts were put in the replacement engine, and he told me that all old parts in the replacement engine were removed before installation. They were not. Doug also told me that I needed a new radiator because it was full of rust. I looked in it after I found the cracked wire and rusted plugs, and it was full of rust. See photo. Doug told me that not transferring my plugs was "AN" honest mistake and that my car was running perfectly when it left their shop and I was "misinformed" if I thought that putting "wires" (one wire, not two, and badly cracked-see photo) in the wrong order would cause my car to malfunction after driving it for some time. It did! "AN" honest mistake is one mistake, not five: 1 They did not transfer my new plugs into my replacement engine. 2 They did not take the old parts out of the replacement engine and left the old plugs in it. 3 They installed an incorrect wire in the wrong firing order. 4 The wire was badly cracked. 5 They replaced my radiator because it was full of rust and it was still full of rust. Doug's explanation in his own words for installing parts he never discussed with me: "Your upset that we replaced parts without talking to you, this was all part of doing the job properly so we can stand behind it." "your plan was to keep the car running as long as possible, as such it was the obvious thing to do." The OBVIOUS thing to do was to talk to me first! It is my car, my money my decision, not yours! Doug replaced my clutch and tried to make me feel that spending $648.55 for clutch parts that has nothing to do with how the engine ran and was working fine, was a deal because he "only" charged me for parts. ONLY?? I had no idea if he did or didn't charge me labor as he did not list labor charges per parts installed on my invoice. After the AGO contacted Doug, he produced the breakdown of labor for my parts, and just as I suspected, he DID charge me labor for my clutch! NW charged me for a clutch, water pump, cap and rotor, gaskets, seals, manifold, thermostat, and I paid $1,031.75 for a fuel injector and bracket, all without discussing any of it with me. I think he saw me as an easy mark because I am a woman in my 60's, and he knew he was highly recommended to me and I trusted him. Doug wrote on my invoice that my replacement engine with "88k" miles was documented, but when I requested that documentation, I was told Rick must have done it as Doug didn't know anything about it or have it, but he could give me the receipt from the junk yard. When I called and asked him for the junk yard receipt, he told me he had "just cleaned house" inferring that he threw it away, and then ignored my other attempts to get it. He did send me the receipt after I sent him a certified letter, and the receipt does not indicate mileage. I believed that the new replacement engine would increase my cars resale value, but I spent thousands on an engine and I did not get any documentation on it or proof it actually has 88k miles on it. Doug was the one who gave me the bill. I am assuming he prepared it and or read it before giving it to me, and if they don't actually have any documentation, why was it written on my invoice? Fraudulent Business Practices? When I told Doug I would talk to Rick, I was told that I couldn't because he doesn't work there anymore. Really?? Aren't they related? Doug did reimburse me for my spark plugs and nothing else, but I now don't believe I even needed an engine in the first place.
