Stroll like a dandy down Dee Why promenade of a weekend morning and you'll see a few cafes with…read morezero people in them and one with all the people in them. Literally all of them, like some giant baby has been using them as toys and is jamming them all into one room of a huge Barbie play house for it's own infantile amusement. It doesn't make any sense, only, it totally does. The cafe is Seachange. and the reason it's so beloved by locals is three-fold: the servings are huge (no fleck of steak on a giant white plate here), they're happy to change absolutely anything on your order without any pissy whining or "No, the chef would kill me" type excuses, and the staff and management are unbelievably friendly. Wulf (sp?) made sure our group got a table inside to protect the little baby we had with us from the sun, and even though he was run off his feet stopped by the table a few times to drop jokes. I had the acai brekky bowl with banana and strawberry and bircher, at $15.90 it's the healthiest way to start the day while still feeling like you're eating ice cream. The Local with tons of bacon, eggs, and a potato rosti is also a winner, as is, oh, pretty much anything on the menu. When you're done, slop across the road and roll about on the beach like a walrus. Trust me, it's great.

The coffee ($3.80) is enjoyable (excellent latte art by the way!) and the view is simply perfect. I love coming here when catching up with friends. Their toasted Turkish sandwiches are still my favourite ($15 and a large portion). Nothing better than consistency and they have it here. Highly recommended!!

As might be expected from the name, they also hire out kayaks and paddle boats for the adjacent lagoon. We had a wonderfully filling salad called the LAGOON BOWL-- roasted kumera, avocado, quinoa, green leaves, free range poached egg, walnuts, cherry tomatoes and citrus herb oil. The citrus herb oil was perfect-- just the right amount to compliment the veggies. They have a bar with a variety of drinks and also a desert case which looked good, but we didn't partake. The Boathouse is sandwiched between the seafood restaurant on the top floor and the boat and kayak rental on the ground floor. Large open windows make it pleasantly airy and provide a good view of the lagoon. My only criticism is the out-of-order lift(elevator). It looked like it hadn't been working for some time, which limits who can eat here.

One water cup had to be replaced because of a large lipstick mark? The menu is not extensive the food was adequate the mezza plate for two was the pick of the day. The location right on the bike track and lake edge commands premium pricing for ordinary cafe food. The big kick in the tale was the 10% Surcharge on top of a hefty bill. No mention of this being added or advised of this gouging.

Quality/Quantity - If you like deep fried foods and beer, this is the place for you. Family box $82 - The calamari rings were my favorite. 3 pieces of fish, 4 prawns, 8 calamari rings, 4 oysters, chips, potato cakes, etc. All were fried well and lightly breaded, just the way I prefer. 2 sauces, which they claim were homemade...? The sweet chili sauce tasted the same as the ones I buy in a bottle. They also had tartar sauce. Lemon slices were large and fresh. Atmosphere - This place was not easy to find, in an alley and off to the side. Google maps had it in a slightly different location. Outdoor seating. Open 7 days a week from noon till 8pm. Service - Counter service. But there was a waiter, who was pretty good. Checked on us a few times, and got us everything we asked for. The owner or manager or chef whoever he was, sure did NOT like Yelp... Price - $82AUD, $56. Good value for 5 people. Okay, we are such light eaters. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success and with your 3+ locations...? Please update/delete your Yelp check-in offer.
