Dr. Tanabe or "Dr. Brian" as he introduces himself, is so absolutely amazing. He takes his time with you, does not rush you and listens carefully to any concerns. His checks are so thorough. He makes every visit worth it. And his bedside manner is amazing. The kids love him and so do we! I'm so grateful we have an amazing ped and it's so convenient with easy parking. Highly recommend if you are looking for a ped in HK!

I didn't know the first thing about finding a good pediatrician but after interviewing a few and…read moremeeting him I ended up choosing Dr. Buehler as my daughter's pediatrician. His office location is great as it's next to whole foods and long stores and kahala mall! So if I need to run a few errands after my daughter's check up the convenience is there. The ladies at the reception desk are really nice. There are times that I have a long wait even though with an appointment which can be frustrating when you're on a schedule. Dr. Buehler is very friendly and genuine. He even gives you his pager in case you have an emergency which he's fairly quick to return your call. There came a point when I didn't have insurance and he was nice to offer a discount for my daughter's visit. That shows that he's in his profession for the kids! I liked him so much that I even referred my friend who just moved on island. Even though they told her she couldn't get an appointment for 2 months, Dr Buehler told me to tell her to ask for him directly, which he then fit her in right away as her son needed to get his vaccinations!

I took my 4 children to Dr. Daniel Buehler for almost 2 years, and I would not recommend him to…read moreanyone. 1. He was dismissive of legitimate concerns I had regarding my children 2. Did not even tell me when my daughter's blood pressure was dangerously low (I found out when I got the medical records) 3. Wrote INCORRECT statements and false quotes in my children's medical charts about concerns I had. For example, when I told him I thought my 5 year old had asthma he documented in the chart that I was sure he had asthma because I have it, and then proceeded to leave out my son's 3 ER visits for breathing trouble. He had multiple, documented ER visits where he received steroids and nebulizer treatments because HE COULD NOT BREATHE! At the ER they didn't send him home because I was "making it up", they quickly gave him breathing treatments because he NEEDED them. My mother, who has done family practice for nearly 20 years had seen and heard my son wheezing on many occasions. I told Dr. Buehler all of this and he left all this information out of the chart and instead falsely quoted me and made it sound as if I was trying to intentionally mislead him. To what end? Why would I make this up? He then refused to give him a prescription for an emergency inhaler at school because he said "school nurses don't know how to use them". This man treated me (and apparently nurses as well) like we know nothing. That was our last appointment with him. Mothers are the best advocate for their children's health, trust me, go to a doctor who cares about your child as much as you do. Whether a mother has a PhD or not if they tell a doctor their child is having trouble breathing as has been to the ER three times for this reason they should take that concern seriously. Even if he hadn't been to the ER it should have been taken seriously and he should have followed up. He did neither of those things. After we moved off island it took me over a year to get the medical records from his office, they wanted quite a bit of money per page and I had 4 children's well checks and sick visits over nearly 2 years (it would have cost nearly $200 to get the records from him and he would not email them). After a year of asking a kind receptionist finally agreed to put the records on a disc for me to have. When I read them I was very upset by what he had documented in the chart about the false information regarding "my concerns" and while I left every appointment with him feeling like all my concerns were dismissed, I could clearly read in the chart that not only did he dismiss my concerns, and my children's written records but he didn't take my children's health seriously at all.

When my first son was born I was able to schedule an appointment with her before giving birth just to meet her and touch base. When i gave birth on Kapiolani hospital she came to visit my son in the NICU and me as well even though I had to stay back in the mother & children's unit for my own medical reasons. Every phone call, message and question was answered. My second son was born 2 years later and she came to visit us every single day since he was born while we stayed in the hospital, some days she even came TWICE! My sons are my everything and I trust Dr.Saito with everything I have. She really and truly is the best Doctor. I would also like to shine light and the rest of the staff members here. He's kind, patient, and flexible when it comes to our preferences for treatment. We never feel pressured to make certain healthcare decisions and always feel like he has the best interest of our children at heart. Our kids aren't afraid of the nurses and staff, and "shot" days are always a breeze. Everyone we've met has given exceptional care. The office is clean and sanitary. Hand sanitizer is sitting at the front desk, and there are sinks with soap in each room. Each exam room is decorated with a different Disney themed wallpaper. The Star Wars room is our kids' personal favorite, and they love to play "I spy" while we wait to see the doctor. The Disney stickers offered at the end of their appointments are a sweet cherry on top! Safety measures taken by the staff: masks, gloves, patients wait in the exam rooms (not in the waiting room), front door is left open. They even have masks and other kid friendly items for purchase up front. We have to make the drive from Mililani to Kahala for visits, but it is well worth the drive. We highly recommend this office and Dr. Buehler to anyone and everyone!

(See my review for Dr. Derek Ching)…read more Dr. Ching has been our primary physician for our twin daughters since birth (they're 10 years old now). He's everything we wanted in a pediatrician - kind, patient, thorough, knowledgable, etc. The advantage of him being a part of Children's Doctors is the availability of seeing his partner (Dr. Gesteuyala?) when he isn't available - as was the case when our younger twin was ill and needed to be seen immediately. We found her to be awesome as well. The staff is friendly and courteous , too. The only negative would be the parking situation as it's very limited, so plan your visits during non peak hours if possible. We've actually been fortunate to find street parking on a few occasions when the lot was full. Bonus: Leonard's Bakery is down the street, so you can walk over for a hot malasada as a bribe/reward as needed.

However, when a new born with medical condition (resulted from milk allergy), Dr. Wu along with other GI specialist did not have a clue how to treat the baby. Her approach was rather experimental and could have our baby killed if the hospital had not stepped in. Over many years under her care, she never had our kids check food allergy until we switched to a new doctor (it was discovered then by this new doctor at the very first appointment, our baby had very strong milk allergy (could be fatal!). We decided to terminate her service after she refused to share medical lab results directly from lab (instead, she would ask us to visit her office to learn the results). In Hawaii, the physicians have the discretion whether or not to have lab test results send to patients directly. She exercised her power as a doctor not to let us to get test results directly from lab, we, in return, exercised our power in the business relationship, to have her terminated.

I gave birth in Kapiolani Medical Center and they offered to help me find a pediatrician with openings and suggested Chunmei Wu. Every single time I've called her, she's told me to go ahead and bring my daughter in, often the very day I call! She is always available either the day I call, or the next morning. When I've called physicians exchange after hours when my daughter had a fever she got back to me right away. Her assistant (who gives the shots) is totally sweet and kind, great with babies, and has a little one herself. My only qualm with her is that she suggest I supplement breastfeeding with formula when my daughter was just a few weeks old because she didn't think she was gaining weight fast enough. I was very serious about breastfeeding and never supplemented and my daughter is now in the 80th percentile. I'm really glad I didn't take her advice to supplement. But other than that, if you want someone that is always available when you have question or reassurance or are wondering if a fever is just a passing cold or something serious, Chunmei Wu is always available.
